Something rears its head from Fender

This does look promising.  Street price is $1699.99 + $175 for the expression pedal.  Which is not inexpensive, but it does replace a lot of hardware.  There is a matching 1x10" or 1x12" powered cab for $500 or $550.

It was interesting, to me, until I saw the price. I'm rediscovering guitar and just want the cheapest way possible to get a decent Steely Dan/Larry Carlton tone. The MP guitar forum seems pretty dead.

Many cheaper alternatives from Boss and Line6.

I love my Strymon Iridium! Seems like a good option for you. It's great by itself, but also works VERY well with volume pedals, wahs, overdrive and boost pedals, etc. in front of it; and various modulation, echo, reverb, Leslie/rotary after...

Sorry, yeah, it's slower around here and less populated than in years gone by...

The Tone Master Pro seems pretty cool, but I don't have a burning want or need for it. And, YEAH, it's pricey...

Take a look at the Peavey Vypyr series amps. The latest are "X" series. I have a VIP 1, which is 20 watts and has a crap 8" speaker from the factory but I put a 10" Scorpion in it. That and a Sanpera 1 will get you TONS of sounds at a much lower price. I think I paid around $60 for the VIP, another $60 for the Scorpion (both used) and $100 or so for the Sanpera. That was a while ago but if you shop carefully you should be able to stay under $300 now.

Transtube is very under-rated and the VIP 1 is the most under--rated because the 8" just doesn't have the mojo.

I've owned the original Vypyr Series amps, 2 different ones. They are pretty good too but I would go for the VIP or X. Much better.

The secret is that "Post Gain" does not mean "after the gain", it means "Simulated Output Gain" and you need to turn that knob up quite a ways. The master volume comes after and you can sound loud while playing quietly. There's a headphone jack too.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

I really think they've got an amazing piece of kit here with the Tone Master Pro - yes it costs as much as an iPad Pro + iRig Stomp and a bunch of software.  But if Fender's new modeler sells well, they'll likely do some models at different price points.

Keep in mind this is the gear the Tone Master Pro is replacing out of the box, the firmware can be updated and users can load their own IR (impulse responses) for additional sounds.
