David Emm
I believe it was their unassuming FP-4 that first won me over, with a solid sound and a responsive keyboard. Since then, they've gone with one thing or another that has no snap-back for trills, replaced with a mushy feel. Bah! Since its a piano first, that'd be my #1 query. If it has that snappy feel I loved before, bring it on, because the power is stupid-good for the low price. The Zen-Core space adds to it immensely. To my ear, Roland pianos often sound muffled until you tweak them, but they speak nicely once you do. The orchestral instruments probably wouldn't be your first choice, but the other sounds come across far better than a General MIDI bank. I don't think it could outstrip a Nord, but its remit feels a bit more casual to begin with. Built-in speakers rarely appear on pro gear. This feels like the more upscale instrument you buy for a student if they've grown past the beginner Yamaha PSR stage. At this price, I even had a fleeting image of it as a main controller for a small synth rig. A dabbling pianist might enjoy the simplicity. It may not offer zones and other amenities, but its one halfway approach with merit. Call it a Gateway To GAS.... 1 Quote "I like that rapper with the bullet in his nose!" "Yeah, Bulletnose! AnotherScott
A bunch of good discussion of this at https://forums.musicplayer.com/topic/184508-roland-fp-e50/#comments 1 Quote Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
