Amid the recent debate regard the development, or nascence, of Artificial Intelligence, this morning, I was struck by a great example of Artificial Stupidity.

Looking at a favorite ad-supported Game site, I noticed an ad inviting me to move to  . . . Lauderdale-By-The-Sea!?!?!?!

I'm sure the bots generating ads rely, in part, on whatever is currently trending in the news, or on social media, and it's no surprise that Florida is dominating much of the U.S.'s media output.

Still, I have to admire the sheer absurdity of marketing seaside property, in Florida, while cars and refrigerators are floating down the streets.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

I don't care what the computers say. I have to know a place to buy into a place these days, and one near the sea or any large body of water is not in my future planning. I don't envy those who live near the oceans.

I moved from Florida to Arizona in 1997. I had a property on the mainland in Florida in Flood Zone C, which meant it was high and dry most of the time, probably 15 to 20 feet above Sea Level. It was on the mainland just west of Crescent Beach Florida (on Anastasia Island), my property was a mile or so inland from the marshes which were at sea level or slightly above. Right now I am on a property 1250 feet above sea level in Arizona, and nowhere near a large body of water.

My sister and her husband have a very nice lagoon waterfront property in Punta Gorda Florida, and they say their place was OK according to my sisters daughters husband who was there just after the storm passed yesterday.

I for one have no desire to live near any large body of water. I come from an Island out in the ocean and have had enough of the flooding that occurred there yearly.

We do get some pretty wicked storms in Monsoon here in the Phoenix Az area (which ends Sept 30) and sometimes we get massive dust storms (haboobs) during monsoon, and some horrific winds at that time as well.

DBM, thanks for saying the term "haboobs".  I have been racking my brain for a long time trying to remember what they called the dust storms in Arizona...😎👍
