Can someone possibly identify this SPIDER?!?!

Recommended Posts

The Brown Recluses are not aggressive spiders at all. They have a tendency to build their webs in corners, closets, and garages. They are also present in crawl spaces and basements where there is not much traffic. I was told by one exterminator that spiders will normally follow OTHER insects and come inside to feed off of their prey that has worked its' way inside.

This area has a problem with ants and when the weather is as wet as it has been this year the ants will inevitably work their way inside without constant treatment. When I had my windows replaced, the contractors found colonies of ants where they had embedded themselves into the window framework. I had them pull out all of the old wood and while the wood was out, I sprayed the nests; they replaced the wood with CCA treated lumber. I've not seen many ants since, and hopefully the spiders will go away after a few treatments.

Although the recluses are not aggressive, they will get down into the toe of shoes and bed into your clothing inside your closets. Your clothing does not necessarily have to be stored for them to get into your closet. Although my newly remodeled bedroom is nearly ready to move back into, I have not done so because I want to see the last living spider DEAD. The last treatment was shortly after a new hatch; so hopefully all the eggs are gone and I can rest easily. The corners where the spiders build nests are right where my bedding would hang down giving them easy access to crawl up in bed with me. NO THANKS!!!

BTW,

NEVER plant peonies near the foundation of a home. Peonies draw ants big time; ants are required to germinate the soil, or whatever they do, for peonies to bloom. The previous owners of my home LOVED peonies and had them on the West and South sides of the home in abundance; hence the ant problem. I transplanted the peonies to the outside perimeters of my property to get the ants away from the foundation.

Hobo reports

Yes, and Hobo spiders are EXTREMELY fast runners! I've slain many inside my house. I leave them alone if they're outside. HOWEVER, very few Hobo spider bites are venemous - as they only have venom when hunting - which is not usually when you'll get bitten. Daddy Long Legs eat Hobo spiders (as do all other spiders, practically).
No matter how good something is, there will always be someone blasting away on a forum somewhere about how much they hate it.

One good thing did come from this thread, I remembered the fake spider I keep in my office. Some how, and don't ask me how, it crawled into the bag of chocolate candy that I keep. I went from office to office a few minutes ago offering chocolate to co-workers.

Spiders can be fun. Fake spiders, that is. :D

Yes. A centipede is uglier than a spider.

I don't care for 'creepy-crawlies' too much.

I find them fascinating, sure. But not beautiful.

Spiders are fine when they stay in their webs. I don't invade their space. They don't invade mine...everybody is happy.

Centipedes absolutely freak me out. I mean, I cannot deal with them. It's not because I'm afraid of a bite. Their bite is harmless. They are actually a good bug to have around. It's that they are fast, and large, and appear when I am least expecting them.

Also among the arachnid family; did you know that scorpions are fluorescent and glow beneath a UV light?
