Piktor
Wow, I just finished reading the Smalls jazz club roster for this week, thinking that I might watch some of tonight's live feed. I see that Mabern was scheduled to play there last night. Sorry to hear of his passing.

jimkost2002
Prof Mabes was a gentle, big-hearted force of nature and guiding light to all here in NYC. His greeting to all musicians here was 'What are you working on'? Followed by inquiries on significant others and family. This one really hurts! Rusty Mike
I just found out today that my piano teacher Tomoko Ohno was a student of Mabern's. She was very saddened by the news and spoke quite fondly of him. It's just fascinating to me how small our circles are sometimes. His legacy lives on in his students and his student's students, as well as the people whose lives he enlightened. Quote .
