Question for the luthiers and repair types...

Hey guys, I have a question. Some years back, I stumbled across a dumpster bound Silvertone/Harmony acoustic just like the one I learned to play on. It is one of the parlor-sized ones that have no truss rod, and this one has a forward bow on the neck.

This one might benefit from a neck reset, but obviously, I could buy a better guitar than this for what a reset would cost. There is a certain sentimental value involved here, and it would be kinda cool to do solo acoustic blues on an ancient cheapo, but maybe not cool enough to get into all of this.

But, for the sake of curiosity, does anybody know if they used hide glue on the neck joints of those old cheapies? It would make dismounting the neck more possible than if they used carpenter's glue, or so I'm told.

Anybody know?

By the way, Happy Turkey Day, y'all!!!

Some luthiers have a heat press which can be used to straighten out the necks in some cases. But to answer your question I think most all old types used hide glue, although I am not sure if your old box has it that way.

Why not skip all the somewhat experimental extra work & just use it for Dobro-style slide ? :idk

I've thought about that, just curious about other possibilities.
