Winston Psmith
Less about any one cool effect, than effects on general, but today, Dec. 4th, is the last day of the Sweetwater Cyber Sale. Among the sale FX are the DOD Rubberneck Delay at $100 off, and the Digitech Obscura Delay at $89.99, around $60 off. I get the feeling that DOD/Digitech are going to discontinue the Rubberneck, as it's dropped in price pretty much everywhere online: Obscura prices are evenly split, with a lot of retailers selling it for the regular $150 price, and others selling it for right around $90. . . . and now the Obscura is showing as "SOLD OUT"? Sorry, folks. Quote "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win." Winston Psmith
I don't get it, why would EHX want to clone a RAT pedal? IME, the RAT was a "love it or hate it" pedal, and I hated it. It seems like there are easily half a dozen versions of the Big Muff, then the Satisfaction Fuzz, now this thing. I'm glad to see Fuzz making a big comeback, but this one isn't calling to me. Winston Psmith
Not exactly new, but news . . . I recently picked up the Digitech Obscura Delay from Sweetwater, at a Black Friday sale price of under $90US. As of right now, it's bounced back up to $169.95 at Sweetwater & GC, but at Musician's Friend, it's "No Longer Available." The Nautila Chorus/Flanger had a recent price drop, and so have other Digitech pedals; the Rubberneck Analog Delay dropped down to $150+/-. Word is that Sony acquired DOD' parent company (Harman, really?), and is phasing out the DOD/Digitech pedal lines. If you've been looking at any of their recent pedals, keep an eye out for sale prices, before they disappear. Quote "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. CEB
I have an old Rat I bought in the 80s after doing a gig with The Drifters. He played a Strat into a Rat into and old Twin. I played a old Strat into my 1965 Twin. I got a Rat. It was glorious. Later after 1991 I used the Rat with a Ibz Jem to goose my Mesa DC5 and it was great. But at other times the Rat doesn't work well. Like right now I'm not using a Rat. It doesn't do much to help the guitars and the Rectoverb I'm playing through. Effects really vari based on the other rig parts. Quote "It doesn't have to be difficult to be cool" - Mitch Towne "A great musician can bring tears to your eyes!!! Larryz
That's bad news about Sony Winston, DOD/Digitech made some very solid well made pedals. It sounded great... when I moved on to one of the early Tweed Blues Devilles and other guitars, it sounded alright... fell out of favor with me, then one day I steped on the switch and the button flew up and hit me in the face, so it went into a box and who knows where it is, now. Only I could break a Rat.

For whatever reason, it never worked for me: possibly my preference for HB-equipped Guitars? The greater question for me is still why EHX is cloning the RAT, when they already have a surplus of OD/Distortion pedals in their line-up. I counted 36 on the EHX website just now, most of them variations on the Big Muff. Quote "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win." Winston Psmith
Here's a mystery box . . . Caevan, you should check this one out. I found this listed when I searched for "EHX OD Pedals"? Can't find any other info, no links, no nuttin', just ads and videos for the original vintage unit. If anyone sees one of these, let me know. EHX Attack Decay reissue? Dannyalcatraz
If the Sony rumor is true, I suspect the way DOD/Digitech has been going the past couple of years, the pedal designers will land on their feet. Winston Psmith
Okay, this looks like solid info on the RI Attack Decay, and a couple of new EHX products. The Switcher looks impressive, and if that's the MSRP, I'm hoping the in-store prices will be lower; might even tempt me to add one to my rig. The Mono Synth pedals look a lot like the housing for the X9 pedals? The Attack decay is the one that calls to me, and again, if $125US is the MSRP, I'm grabbing the first one I see . . . Winston Psmith
@Dannyalcatraz - I've needed a switcher for a while now, just keep avoiding them because of $$$. This might tempt me, but I'm more excited about the Attack Decay. I've loved that sound since my original Slow Gear, and they're still few and far between. (The "Swell" setting on the Echo Park does a nice job, BTW.) I would be curious to A/B the new Mono Synth with the Synth9? Based on a quick comparison with the MSRP on other EHX gear, I figure that switcher is going to come in at right around $300, and the Attack Decay at around $100, and the Mono Synth pedals should be at about the same price point? That makes them about half the price of the Synth9/Key9 series. Quote "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win." Dannyalcatraz
I have to say, I understand the reluctance to buy pricey gear that doesnt have strings, a wattage rating or adds a new tone shaping option to your rig. But I have to say that when I bought MY switcher, it changed the way I felt about my pedalboard...immensely for the better. I currently own one Carl Martin Octaswitch MkII. I plan on buying more. Or maybe a MkIII. https://carlmartin.com/octa_switch_mk2/ https://carlmartin.com/octa-switch-mk3-2/ I cant say how it compares to the EHX product, but I can say that the Octaswitch is well made, easy to use, and powerful in its own way. If the EHX version is anything like it, I think youll find it liberating. Quote Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a.
