exduelist
as the title says... i'm looking for a cheap 88 keys midi controller, i just can't decide between those two. Can you help me?
Dana.
Not much of a choice considering they're essentially the same board. Seems to be a rebranding job. Action is crap. Can't imagine the velocity is consistent. Electronics will probably fail within six months. Junk vs. junk. Not even worth using for trebuchet. midinut
I use a Keystation 88es live. Been using it for a year and a half with no problems whatsoever. I grew up playing organ so I'm not a big "stickler" for piano feel. However, I do enjoy having 88 full size keys to control my piano and epiano sounds. I've never had any problems with velocity or the electronics either. My stepson liked mine and bought the Alesis Q88 simply because he wanted a black controller as opposed to the silver. He hasn't had any problems either. It's a light touch but not suitable for organ smears. I use a Keystation 49 or now an Arturia KeyLab 61 (just got it) for an upper board to handle organ and synth sounds. All sounds come from my laptop running VSTs in Cantabile. Knock on wood I've had no issues there either. Curmudgeon
I had an Alesis Q88 and used it on 2 musical theater gigs before getting rid of it. The concept is fantastic (light, 88 keys, barebones controller), but I hated the action. I felt like I was constantly fighting to keep the velocity consistent, and even then, I would still have single notes jump out at inappropriately high volume sometimes. Also, the black keys require noticeably more force than the white keys, and it seemed like the keys bottomed out hard, hurting my hands. Having said that, one of my former teachers uses one and is happy with it, so your results may vary. So basically they are the same.. can you tell me eventually which one has less noisy keys?
