Allister
Hey guys, GAS has struck again. wondering if a few leslie experts could take a look at this for me. if all goes well i'll end up paying between £150-200 if he agrees to deliver. another argument is just putting the money towards a vent. thanks! mate stubb
Rotosonics do not give you the classic leslie sound, if that's what you are after. Moe ---
CEB
It is also a multichannel leslie. It pairs nicely with a B3000 but you don't want that unless it is cheap. Specs call it 215 watts but that is all the rotary and stationary amps summed together. A vent would sound better if this is for a clone. Allister
Do you guys think the slight hum on startup is an issue? Yamaha MOX8, Roland VK8, LESLIE HL822 Woop woop!!!! and a MBP running PT10 and Omnisphere. My Blog.
smanzella
Hum, crackle, and pop probably indicate that capacitors are expiring. They only get worse, not better. I would just spend your cash into a Vent unless you are willing to spend more money on repairs. Even if you do it yourself, you still have to buy the capacitors with can be very expensive for this type of gear. Allister
That's my main fear really, I don't want to throw good money at something which might later become a pain in the ass. B3Nut
Needs the electrolytics replaced. Not the most highly-regarded Leslie, but still, a Leslie with the proper horn. You really need to play through one to see if you can live with the Rotosonic lower rotor or not. I don't turn down the 715/HL-722/815/HL-822 family if cheap enough, though. I do like them for some things. They're punchy, clean, and have big, rich bass. Their deep chorale is especially charming for guitar. And if nothing else they have the horn, driver, and two 2-speed motor stacks in there...very desirable parts. A Ventilator is better for most for plug-and-play though, especially for a clonewheel/digital organ. TP --- Todd A. dodonnell
Crackle could be from the mercury switch on the rotosonic drum. Review the service manual http://www.captain-foldback.com/Leslie_sub/Leslie_schematics/722-822_service_pamphlet.zip I have a similar leslie for my X77. It's a noisy amp. Doesn't sound like a regular leslie. Allister
also forgot to add, will the leslie draw sufficient power from my vk8 via the 11 pin cable or will i need to get my cutters out ? Edit, it has a 13A plug Yamaha MOX8, Roland VK8, LESLIE HL822 Woop woop!!!! and a MBP running PT10 and Omnisphere. My Blog.
B3Nut
11-pin Leslies all have their own dedicated mains cable. The 11-pin cable only carries audio, low-voltage DC control voltages, and +28VDC to power certain combo preamps (this also tells the VK8 or other 11-pin-equipped organ that a Leslie is connected.) Allister
UPDATE: leslie arrived today, crackling sound was present as mentioned. me being the tinkerer i am, decided to open up the cabinet to find the mercotac and try shaking it as mentioned on other posts. after all this, the problem was a dirty loose rotary contact cap. i cleaned it up, and used a cable tie to keep mercotac wire slightly taught. problem solved been running for an hour now and not a single crackle. WesG
Start with 008888000 on both manuals, add 2nd(?) harmonic percussion for the leads. The push from the C to F just before the one is key to getting the feel right. B3Nut
GO is 8888. First four bars out. Booker always plays this in a 16' register. Both hands on upper. On soft fast second percussion, occasionally he'll use normal perc volume if he wants more punch. Watch video of Booker playing it. Plenty of examples on YouTube. TP --- Todd A.
