hurricane hugo
Y'all showed some major love for Fred Carlson's work earlier in the thread, so I'm bringing you some more, courtesy of Alex DeGrassi: [video:youtube] ...the headstock has 18 tuning pegs, but 12 of those are for sympathetic strings that run through the neck. Only 6 are actually played. Quote http://blip.fm/invite/WorkRelease
Dannyalcatraz
this is a Pegasus: http://www.guitarsite.com/files/pegasus-hybrid-guitar.jpg I've been looking at & buying Jon's guitars since 2003. He makes a headless bass guitar based on the Pegasus that fits in my dreadnaught case- I want him to make a baritone like that for me. 2016, maybe? Veillette makes acoustics? http://www.edroman.com/guitars/veillette/images/veillette_15.jpg Yup, and they sound incredible! Quote Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Eric Iverson
Has anyone ever made a guitar with movable frets, like a sitar? I remember watching Ravi Shankar move the frets when about to play a different raga, without any hesitation, like it was nothing at all to get it to the exact right location! Scott Fraser
Has anyone ever made a guitar with movable frets, like a sitar? I remember watching Ravi Shankar move the frets when about to play a different raga, without any hesitation, like it was nothing at all to get it to the exact right location! A friend of mine has one, made in Germany. He plays a lot of microtonal music & this instrument is how you get these altered scales in a guitar. There's a separately moveable fret for each string at each fret position, so something like 100 little sliding frets, each anchored on a slot running under each string. The guitar comes with a little tool to tap each fret up or down the neck to fit each tuning system needed. My friend has used it to record some Harry Partch music here at my studio. Wild stuff. hurricane hugo
OK, not so much weird appearance-wise as materials-wise - this guy makes guitars from wood salvaged from vacant buildings in Detroit. Hey, that's one way to get 100+ year old wood. I imagine no fireplace mantle is safe, lol. http://boingboing.net/2015/01/09/report-charlize-theron-negoti.html Quote http://blip.fm/invite/WorkRelease

Dannyalcatraz
FWIW, other luthiers out there do that kind of thing, at least sometimes. 2 I know that have are Jon Kammerer and Rice Guitars. I think it's an awesome idea.p, and obviously, sometimes they can find some killer materials. Quote Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a.
