5 string Mike
Founder member of "America" Dan Peek passed away on the 24th. He was 60. I have grown to appreciate America's music as I have grown older. Their vocal harmonies and acoustic sound are very good to me. The music is still a little to neutered for me, but I like Sister Golden Hair and Ventura Highway. I actually learned the chords for "Horse with No Name" and play it when I am messing around with my acoustic guitar Apparently Dan left the band and became a Christian in the late '70s. SteveC
Very sad. That was an amazing band. The music, lyrics and vocals were outstanding. Still love them. We do Sister Golden Hair once in a while.
kenfxj
While it's not normally the type of music I would go for, I always liked America. Such a beautiful sound they created. b5pilot
I actually learned the chords for "Horse with No Name" and play it when I am messing around with my acoustic guitar As did I. It was one of the first songs I learned. My absolute favorite America song was Sandman. Very sad and an absolute bummer to hear this news. RIP Dan! Lydian mode? jcadmus
Darn. I liked them -- used to cover a few of their songs in my first band. "Tours widely in the southwestern tip of Kentucky"
Bottom End
Sad news. Damn if those boys don't have the 70's California look down, though, "Call me what instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you cannot play upon me.'-Hamlet Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song. picker
The first album was very nearly perfect. It's sad that he died, 60's no spring chicken, but it's too young to die. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Richard W
They were never my cup of tea, but you have to admire any band that generated as many hits as they did, and their vocals are really terrific.
