  1. It's a Hofner Icon, which I believe is just as good, even though some Hofner afficionados would disagree. (Cheaper pickguard and tuning pegs). Remember, the Hofner has always been a cheap bass but curiously, the body work is beautiful. As for the intonation, ya know, people talk about how it doesn't play in tune in the upper register, but it really isn't that bad. And besides, it's not exactly the type of bass where you'd be soloing above the 12th fret. But for that thumpy low end, it's definitely got the vibe.
  2. Thanks. The only electric guitar I own is a CV Squier 50's strat. They're great. The different tones are from the different "amp" options in Garage Band.
  3. Thanks guys. It was interesting using the Hofner. The tendency is the play certain parts in a lower register and I'd wonder why McCartney would play them up an octave. And then you realize it sounds better that way on the Hof!
  4. This was a mouthful -- in a manner of speaking. But a great bass part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR-TiMe_itE
  5. Interesting! It seems a bit fast to my ears but I have to admit I haven't listened to a lot of Free lately. Other than that, a very enjoyable listen! I like your vocals. Thanks. And you're right, it is a bit faster than the original. I tried to make it a bit more "song-like" by adding harmonies and such. Free weren't the strongest songwriters or arrangers (except for All Right Now) They did mostly blues. But they had a great sound, a great groove and a great gritty vibe.
  6. I always liked Andy Frasier of Free so I decided to do a reworking of one of his great riffs. Or as some people call it -- attention whoring. ......
  7. He and Jack Bruce were friends and I think Jack recognized his skills and sense of commercialism. he was right.
  8. Nelson Montana underrated?!?!?!? Are you nutz! That guy's a phenom over on the LowDown Forum! He's the bee's knees! (very nice piece, BTW). Ha! Originally, Feliz's name was at the head of the thread. But thanks. And I'm no phenom here -- just a resident pain in the ass to some people.
  9. A great underrated bass player, PLUS a talented composer, vocalist, arranger, producer, and multi instrumentalist. But please...no comments on the performance. I'll get in trouble.
  10. Today's offering. LOL Love this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJeGtHEP160
  11. Prog punk bass playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHoIz1PBbec
  12. Me? (It's hard to tell the way the forum is laid out, lol) I do have 3 CD's out. The two in my signature and one I remastered and re-released that's an old album. They're all available on CDbaby. I do make a few bucks. VERY few! : ) But a lot of the things I post on Youtube is just stuff I have some fun knocking out here and there.
  13. The worlds sappiest song -- but for some reason, women seem to love it. So... I injected a bit of testosterone to it. And surprisingly, it's a nice vehicle for the bass. I had fun with this one.
  14. Why not...for whomever may stumble upon it. My evenings work. All vox, all instruments. A little big for me. hell, it's too big for everybody. But I always liked this song. First track.
  15. Regarding Steely Dan. I'm not their biggest fan, but some of their stuff is fun to play. First track: Kid Charlamagne.
  16. Well, those that didn't generate interest would drop and those that did would remain. Natural order. Survival of the fittest. lol Anyway, it's more about the confusion. I had to go back to find out what someone was talking about, but apparently I'm in the minority. It's fine. Moving on....
  17. This is the confusion I was talking about. Without a specific thread title, no one knows what we're talking about at any time. I think that's why after 4 months there are only a handful of posts. It's like this is the one topic where traffic is discouraged! lol Oh well. Responses are still appreciated and personally, I like hearing what other people are doing so I'll keep checking in.
  18. Here I am playing with myself. .???....wait a minute. That didn't sound right. Actually, it's kind of like time travel. Ah, this explains it.
  19. Sometimes it isn't even a matter of practice or speed, but getting used to things a certain way. This is a song I used to do and decided to record. Once I did, I realized the time was all messed up, so on this recording I played it to a drum machine, then just erased the drum machine. At first it seemed stiff, (I wanted it to feel loose) but now I'm USED to it hearing it in perfect time and THAT made all the difference.
  20. So that's you just playing guitar and singing? No bass? Cool. It's interesting and the rhythm is good but I felt as if some spots were rushed. I'm guessing this is free time and not played to a click or drum machine. You want it so people listening can tap their foot. Nice job, but I feel it'd work better if the tempo were more definite. Easy enough to fix.
  21. that's only because you haven't grasped the quote function. Nope, got it. But each post must go back and forth as opposed to addressing one topic. Again, if that's the way everyone likes it, it's fine with me. But the thread does move a bit slowly.
