Nice solo Neil but too short, I could have used more of you.

The SV-1 sounds great !

They cut us back to every other Thursday. I knew we shouldn't have taken "Boots" so far out a couple of weeks ago. :D

A different drummer tonight. Freddie Hubbard's "Up Jumped Spring"

I just listened to the last 3 or 4 recordings, the Olso festival sounded nicem a bit typical sub-woofer sound, but above 40 Hz the P.A. even exhibits variation...

I think the Dave Ferris recording sounds pretty good on my large monitors, clearly a piano master at work. Maybe a little more mid-low and bass end would make the nice sound more complete ?

The mcgoo song seems to not really get there where the guitar and singer were nicely going, and I'd say a not-so-massive organ sound as could fit the song.

The marino imrovisation sounded good, I'd say the sound probably at least *doesn't* suffer from the "binoral mess" a lot of productions appear to suffer from nowadays for reasons unknown to me, but indeed I supposes the miking isn't up to say a zoom H2 or so? I'd say the piano sound is a real piano, isn't it, so indeed it should sound richer..

Theo.... in a thread which starts with the words "quality unimportant, lo-fi is welcome here and encouraged", commenting *only* on the sound quality seems a little weird to me - don't you think?

FWIW, antway, I would have paid to have a Zoom H2 that night. As I originally said:

"It was recorded with a crappy mic positioned at random, so it sounds quite offensive to the ears. Sorry."

Reading the previous posts before adding your opinion sounds like a good idea. :D:freak:

From last Thursday night here's Dizzy's "Con Alma" with a disclaimer. I had a definite "senior moment" at the very end.

I'd hadn't played this in awhile so I had a chart with the key change down to Eb on the last 8. When I glanced up to check out the melody the last few bars, my eyes mistakenly went to the first ending in the key of E ! So thus the "wtf is he doing ?! " on the last bar or so. I tried to save it somehow but it just sounds weird....:blush: Don't get old..

Other then that it's a halfway decent take. The bass is a little hot as I experimented with the placement and put the recorder on the floor (on tripod).

Music starts about 18 seconds in.

I want to bring this tread back because it's so good.

Actually it sounds pretty cool! As far as clams go, that's not a ban one. ;) And it's more than made up for by the excellent playing throughout!

Check the last part of his drum solo - double time. :) drums/J. Barron, bass/Octavia Bailey

Wicked! Joey Baron has been one of my favorites, ever since I heard him with Masada.

Btw I felt compelled to contribute something. So here's "Time Remembered" . This performance was intended to demonstrate Bill Evans' late style, so it's played very straightforwardly.

Yeah man, that's beautiful. Your right hand really sings, and floats above the rest of the music-- just like Bill. :) This seriously makes me want to practice.

OK, here's my contribution. I had a fantastic gig during my local jazz festival, with a fun band called Barika. Roy Hargrove sat in, and he kind of stole my big organ solo at the end, but I'm not complaining-- I gave it up happily. :) I'm playing Rhodes + Electro in this tune.

frogmonkey--Enjoyed hearing your band and Roy Hargrove. I've always liked his sound and choice of notes.

Hey thanks fm. On repeated listening it isn't as bad as I first thought. One thing I think I've become fairly good after all these years is hiding my mistakes :D --that's a big part of taking chances when improvising.

Well this is going to be the last linstallment, at least for a little while, from the hotel. We got laid off.... :( We knew it was coming when they cut us back to every other Thursday. They said they want us back in Sept. though after the summer slowdown, so we'll see.

This is known as the original "Milestones". Sometimes credited to Bird, other times you see it credited to Miles. Personally I think it's Bird even though he played Tenor on it because of a Musician Union snafu.

This track has two tunes on it. After "Milestones" I messed up and hit pause instead of stop on the recorder, so it didn't divide the track. So there's the extra tune tagged on. I know you can divide it in Garage band or something like that but I'm a hopeless computer idiot. My friend who divided one big file before for me in Pro Tools is on vacation so I just left it as is for the time being.

She's doing "Autumn Leaves" in French. We start in 3/4 time then there's a bass & piano solo before we go to 4/4.
