A plug for live classical music...

As I think I've mentioned here before, my mother is a violist in a pretty well-respected local orchestra. On Sunday, my wife and I and some friends went to see the orchestra perform an all-Beethoven program, including his Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major and the 7th Symphony (which was the big attraction for me because it's one of my favorite pieces of classical music).

I don't go frequently enough to these concerts, but I am always blown away by the power of live symphonic music. The orchestra plays at an unbelievably beautiful (and beautiful-sounding) concert hall, and there's just something very special about a "pure analog" show like the symphony. No power cords. No amplifiers. No speakers. No microphones. Just each instrument in all its acoustic glory, occupying its unique space on the sound stage, being played by experts at their craft, and generating music so good that at times it transcends comprehension.

I was very happy to be a patron of such fine arts on Sunday.:thu:

Two concerts in May:

On the 14th, they do a Bach & Mozart program:

BACH - Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major

MOZART - Oboe Concerto in C Major

MOZART - Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major

BACH - Concerto for Oboe and Violin in D minor

On the 21st, they do Verdi's Requiem.

They close their season on June 4th with an all Tchaikovsky program.
