NMcGuitar
I never even thought about my camera... It was a good time. And it was definitely too short. It was cool to have a couple more faces to put with the names, and of course always good to see Rim, Lincoln and Matt. It was funny that my friends Dan & Jewel happened to show up (although not all that surprising since they live nearby), but they seemed to fit right into the crowd. :thu: - - - - So.... Addix Metzatricity
I must say that I had an absolute BLAST! These people were so much fun. It's really too bad that Jedi's wife had to be so silly with her car keys (and I'm waiting for you to send me some music!). But, of course, Rog took the cake by giving me guitar stands, which I'm putting to good use: "Bass isn't just for breakfast anymore..." http://www.mp3.com/Addix_Metzatricity

flyscots
I had a really cool time with Rim & the DC area crew. As Rim mentioned, we went to Madam's Organ on Thursday night and saw & heard an incredible little band. They were just a covers band but my god they were good - funk & soul specialists. The drummer in particular was outstanding, but no-one was below excellent. Yep, I got a free round! Turns out the waitres went to University in Scotland. Rim was a great host with a nice apartment. He is also very generous, for which I cant thank him enough. One problem with Rim though, he doesnt know how to work MapQuest! ;) We got lost and turned up late at the Royal Mile but thankfully Rog seemed to forget or ignore his 5 month anniversary so he could hang with us for longer - hopefully not a move he regrets! Rog is a fun character, I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him about all things music & hockey related. I'm ashamed that I didnt recognize Addix on our handshake greeting. He looks a lot different than the picture I'd seen plus he's much quieter & more reserved than I imagined. He too is very cool though and it was a pleasure to finally meet him. Despite 'knowing' Neil for the shortest amount of time online, it felt like I'd known him the longest (except Jack & Debbi of course) Yet another forum member it was a joy to hang with. Lincoln too seemed very cool, classy & down to earth. Such a shame he had to leave so soon. It was a little strange meeting The Lurker, who at first didnt seem to know who anyone was but after a couple of reminders seemed to know quite a bit about us. It must be very interesting being a Lurker and meeting at these get togethers. He was a nice guy too. All in all, it was a great few days in & around DC. I definately want to visit again, maybe next time I make it back to this country! Thanks everyone! John
Fendercaster
I guess I should visit this forum more often, I've never posted here before. Although I haven't corresponded with all of you before, I would have loved to have made the Royal Mile get together. I have been in touch with Neil and Rog before, so I wouldn't have felt totally out of place. :) Glad you all had a good time! The Lurker
Perhaps at some point in the future, the DC crowd could meet at my pad downtown, have some haggis and not-really Scottish beer (so that it seems just like the Royal Mile), blow some instruments to the neighbors' chagrin, and then invade an open jam session at HR-57 down the street. I think Thursday is blues nights. Anyway, nice seeing everyone again, sorry Rim and Jedi had to jet, hope Jedi's wife's car was OK, John makes it back safely, Neil's show at the Studio goes well, and his friend's transition to Folger works out (I'll keep an eye out for his wife giving Johnny K a blowjob - this sounds worse than it is). Rim
John, Glad you had a good time in DC. Definitely keep us in mind in your next U.S. tour! Hey Lurker, you made it to double digits! Your fingers must be getting tired. :D I'm always up for a jam. Maybe Addix can make the trek down again so we can have a bass player. I was disappointed I had to leave early (even more disappointed I got lost  ). My work sux - no other way to say it. I ended up getting there at 10pm and working 'til 3am. rog951
Sorry it took so long for me to post about this, but I just wanted to say I had a great time Friday! The in-laws have been in town all weekend  Neil's in my neighborhood so I expect we'll be seeing each other soon... Jedi, what can I say? Always a pleasure man! Too bad you had to jet early. I hope you got your wife all straightened out. We've gotta get together and compare notes on our recording setup soon. Also, next time you gotta drag your dad and his "old musician buddies" out with us. I got to hang for about five minutes with those guys after the Alesis seminar thingie and they did nothing but crack me up. I've spent a total of 20 minutes of my life around your dad and I think he's just one of those people meant to make others smile. :) Unfortunately, I had to bail not long after Sylver and his wife arrived, so we didn't really get to chat too much. Both seemed very nice and they're obviously very generous people based on their treatment of John and their willingness to drive all over hell and creation just to spend some time with us. And, if we were (as Addix said) a less-than-stellar-looking crowd, the arrival of Debbi helped push the quotient up a few notches; she's quite a cutie. Sylver: nicely played. ;) And Sylver IS just as hot as his daughter says...hey, if I was a woman I'd...well, maybe I won't finish that thought afterall... The Lurker was also positioned kinda down at the other end of the table so I didn't get much seat time with him. He has graciously offered to host a "piss off Lurker's neighbors" party down-town, so hopefully we'll be able to make that happen sometime soon! Pretty cool way to spend an evening, I'd say. It's odd to get a group of 8-10 people together these days and not be able to find an asshole in the bunch. Well, other than myself of course! :) See you guys next time out! None more black. flyscots
No need for PM. It was Spiritualized's album "Let It Come Down" I was talking about - track 4, "Out Of Sight" in particular.
from ubl.com: Sweeping, stratospheric string and brass sections dominate the album, with over 100 musicians surrounding Jason Pierce's frail, desolate vocals.
They dont mention the huge guitar sound, solid drums, storming bass lines & gospel choir backing vocals. As I told you, no instrument is masked in the mix, it really is incredible Enjoy! NMcGuitar
I had no trouble understanding John at all. flyscots
I deliberately pronounce Rog as it's written. I know its Roj, but it doesnt say Roj. So Rim, you're not making fun of me, I'm making fun of him, Rog! As for me being easy to understand - accents form when you stay in one place too long. I lived in 4 different places with entirely different accents between birth and 17. That includes living in the NorthWest of England for 8 years, so my accent is really toned down. Add to that the fact I worked for a telephone company and took calls from all over the UK - I had to speak clearly and make myself understood. Then comes Rog's thought, I've now lived in the States for 12 months. I know how to be understood! I could easily switch to a stronger accent but then that wouldnt really be me. Now I've got to face the small town crowd back home who are gonna be making fun of the 'American twangs' in my accent!
NMcGuitar
Slightly off topic... So Rim, you're not making fun of me, I'm making fun of him, Rog!
I always sign my emails, personal and business, simply "Rog", and I actually have a bunch of people around my office that jokingly use John's pronunciation as well. There's another group who tend to pronounce the long "O" and call me "Rogue". I kinda like the sound of that...if I ever needed a stage name (or an American Gladiator name) I might use that one... The one thing people do to my name that irritates me for some strange reason is to put a "d" in the spelling. Rodger? Whenever I correspond with known offenders, I put an erroneous "d" in their name as well, and then sign the correspondence as "Rodg". Not once have any of these people acknowledged my misspelling of their name or subsequently changed their habit of throwing that crazy "d" around. I don't know why I somehow picked this to let bug me because I'm really way too laid-back to care about stupid stuff like that. None more black.
