Dave Pierce
Last year my Santana Tribute Band played the holiday party for Latin Rock Inc., and were lucky enough to have Chepito Areas and Michael Carabello sit in with us. It was a fabulous experience. Well, this year we played it again. And this time, instead of former members of Santana, we got a current member! Raul Rekow came up and did Soul Sacrifice (natch). Wow! What a conguero. That guys is absolutely amazing. I guess it's not surprising -- Carlos can hire whoever he wants, and he's had Raul since the late 70s. It was pretty cool. I know, if there's no picture, it didn't happen. So here you go... --Dave http://funkazul.com/photos/RaulRekow.JPG Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. eric
Awesome! I'm sure there was a red Electro on stage as well, making this an even more important event. Regards, Eric
Dave Pierce
Why do people think Mac's are intuitive? I can crop and shrink this photo with iPhoto, but I can't save the results to save my soul. Anyway -- yes, there was an Electro. Sadly, this time there are no photos that have both Raul and me. We were on opposite sides of the stage. But it was still great! --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. NoahZark
No picture of you, you weren't there. For all I know, you copped the pic off the web somewhere. Noah
Dave Pierce
Noah, take one look at the two knuckle-heads playing bass and guitar. Who but me would play in a band with guys like that, huh? --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. Tonysounds
Yeah, Raoul is a wicked player, and he's a very funny guy. He was also a badass at Dreamcast! Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
Dave Pierce
Ah, finally figured out how to shrink the photo. Tony, when did you meet Raul? --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. Tonysounds
First time was in 1998 at the Taste of Chicago, where we were booked as the last band on the mainstage, and Santana was playing later that night at the Petrillo Bandshell. Karl, Raoul, Myron Dove and Walfredo were hanging out at the fest and heard the music, and according to them, came over to bust the soundguy for playing a Santana bootleg! They were shocked and entertained to see us playing, so they hung out for the show and introduced themselves, and invited us to their gig. We went out for dinner and drinks afterwards. When Raoul and Karl did their record, they came through town to promote it, and I did sound for them at a couple Guitar Center gigs/clinics in town. They sat in with us that weekend before too many cocktails and video games. They were WAY into Dreamcast at that point! (Safe distraction when on the road I guess.) Wed had Marc Quinones (percussion, Allman Brothers) sit in with us as well. Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
Dave Pierce
Very cool. Myron's brother Dennis is a great drummer around here, I've played on a few gigs with him. Super sweet singing voice too. --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up.
