I now know what it's like to have G.A.S.

Okay, I haven't acquired anything. I have champagne tastes on a water budget.

I have been seriously wanting two guitars for the past two days. One is a 12 stringer that I saw John Denver play. The clip was from 1975, and I am pretty sure that it was a Taylor. Gorgeous sounding guitar. The crazy part is that I don't even know how to play a 12 stringer!

Another guitar I saw recently was an acoustic electric Martin six stringer. This guitar had a beautiful sound also.

I know that I have stated that I don't want to have a lot of gear because I fear that the gear will have me, but I haven't been able to get these guitars out of my head.

The bad part about this is that the catalytic converter on my car is about to hit the dust, and I will have to be replacing that soon, which is a big expense. So no acquiring gear for me for a while.

I never thought I would be gassin for anything. I guess that you really should never say "Never"!

There's only one cure for gassy's consumptions... as for the convertor... Ummm when's the next emmission test ;)

The mechanic said that I wouldn't probably have to replace it until my inspection, which is February 2008. However, I don't think I would want to drive my car that long without replacing the converter. The gas mileage drops, although the car's performance doesn't. I'm just afraid of it doing more damage to my car.

I also have some credit card bills to pay off, so everything seems to be coming at once. It's gotten so that next year I'm considering electrifying my Walden acoustic instead of going out and purchasing an acoustic electric. I know it can be done.

I think he was playing a Guild 12-string in 1975. Don't quote me on it. I may be wrong.

Mdrs, your avatar makes me smile. It reminds me of my first guitar, which was a Memphis. My Memphis looked a lot like your guitar. However, I am sure that your guitar plays so much better than my Memphis did, because the Memphis had a warped neck and one of the pickups went out on it.

I can guarantee you that you know how to play a 12 string AND I can also guarantee that you don't know how to TUNE a 12 string.

I couldn't see the headstock in the clip. If I can find a YouTube clip, I'll post it. But I do know that he also played a Taylor because I have one of his songbooks, and he is pictured with a Taylor.

Guild or Taylor, it's still out of my price range right now. But I can dream! I have even been inspired to learn "Rhymes and Reasons" -- a song that isn't in the songbook that I have

Dr. Ellwood:

I probably could play a 12 stringer after a few tries. But I would probably have trouble tuning a 12 string because I have a little trouble tuning a 6 stringer without having to use a tuner. And I can't tune a fish, either ;)
