zvenx
HI, I am sure this forum has been beaten to death about this topic, but I need to ask opinions. I am a multi-instrumental musician/producer who lives in Jamaica. I do ads, music for film, tv....jingles etc...... meaning I have to cover a lot of styles, reggae, jazz, rock, r&b, hip hop, soca, alternative.... you name it I will have to cover it. My bass I have been using for the last 15 or so years and still love is a 1992 maple neck 4 string MusicMan Stingray bass. I want to treat myself to another bass. This time I want a five string but one that will cover tones that the MusicMan will not. Initially I am thinking a J style pickups, and rosewood fingerboard or any non-maple fingerboard. I am thinking of spending between $1,000- $1500US. What would you guys recommend that I try out. Basically, there are no real music stores in Jamaica, so I dont' have the opportunity to spend a whole day or days trying different basses. I want to narrow it down to about four, and fly up to miami and spend hours with those four or so basses. Really appreciate your advice in advance. thanks rsp richard sven sound sculptist
rizzo9247
If you dig the Stingray, the dual humbucker model for the 5 string can also offer a varied tonal landscape. Lakland Sklyline 5 string is pretty sweet as well.
