trushack
Hey, it's like my first post or something! Anyways, I'm putting together an amplifier shopping list and wanted to get some input from everyone. I've never owned a tube amp, and want to get one or two in the stable. Listed below are some of the models I'm considering. In a perfect world, I'll be able to sock away enough money to buy two of these...one British flavor and one American flavor. I play Strats, Teles and Rick 330/12 and dabble in just about everything except super hi-gain metal tones. I haven't gigged in years, but if something popped up I'd want an amp that could work in a live setting. 1) Fender Deluxe Reverb RI - I'm generally a Fender guy and have liked the couple I've played through. Of all the tube Fenders I've looked at, I like this one the best. 2) Vox AC30CC2X - The very top of my price range and probably a bit more amp than I need right now, but damn I love these bad boys. 3) Vox AC15CCX - Could probably satisfy my Vox GASing. Lots of mixed reviews make me wonder about these, though. I have yet to try one. 4) Orange Tiny Terror - Love the idea of these amps....just a flat out, no fuss, bright orange rock machine. Supposedly not really built for clean jazz and twangy tones, which would be a downside for me. 5) Fender Pro/Blues Junior - Prefer the bigger Deluxe Reverb, but would compromise down on one of these for the right price. A buddy has a Blues Junior that absolutely rocks and his Rick 12 string sounds great through it. Please add your .02 cents
Mudcat
Welcome to the forum. Based on my personal experience/preferences and the info provided by the forum's tube amp guru Myles Rose in this thread, the Deluxe Reverb is my number one recommended American amp. For British amps I have favored the sound of Hiwatt amps that I have played. The old 50 watt Bulldog is a really nice amp. Unfortunately they don't make it anymore. Of those you have listed I would go with the Vox AC30. I've never really had a chance to play through one, but I have always liked the way they sounded when played by others. Read through the above post on the Deluxe Reverb. Myles supplies a bunch of great information there on that specific amp. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Guitar55
You may want to check out some models by Rivera. Very well built and most offer two channels, one American-flavored and one British.
Zephyr
American: Fender Deluxe Reverb, far and away British: the Vox's are pretty good, but I would also take a look at some tube Marshalls too Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=810593 http://www.myspace.com/dandelavega
trushack
Cool guys, thanks for the help. The Deluxe Reverb is just one of those amps I KNOW I should pull the trigger on, but still need a bit of prodding. I'll definitely check out some Riveras and Marshalls too. And thanks for the link to that thread...headed there now!
mdrs
I love my Blues Jr. I love the Fender tweed Blues Deluxe. I love the Fender Deluxe Reverb. I highly recommend you check out Rivera, esp. the clubsters and pubsters. You can get GREAT clean, and crunch. And, both in a relatively small, easily transportable package. And, they are priced very resonably. The main thing is that Riveras are great amps. Check out the videos here; http://www.rivera.com/ Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. It's an unbelievable amp, chimey cleans, thick overdrive. As long as you don't want to play clean funk all night, there's plenty of headroom in this 15 watt amp. Plus you can jack it up and it wont kill people. And for under $600 delivered this is the best bargain in guitar amps, ever.
