JonathanD
So I want to write a song about physical virility (not the Viagra type guys!) Things I would like some suggestions on are...#1What are the 3 most driving songs(mailnly looking for bass lines but open to other ideas) you can think of... and #2 What things symbolize virility to you? I am talking more along the lines of endurance, strength, wild animals killing each other type of stuff. The will to survive. Thanks for playing,Jonathan

Just rewrite Born to be Wild and talk about animals instead of highways. Free download of my cd!.
shirky
It's late, so I'm sorry if my brain isn't working properly. The most driving song I can think of off the top of my head has to be The Immigrant Song by Zepplin. When I think of virility, I think of...rabbits. Well there you have it. Cheers, Shirky
Gruuve
Great question. I immediately think of some of the predatorial animals that have unusual strengths...like the cheetah (fastest land animal), crocodile (incredible strength), great white sharks (remarkable viciousness), panther (incredible stealth), etc. But if the song is to be about humans...what gives us our ability to survive? I'd say our intelligence and ability to adapt to almost any conditions...that has led to homo sapien survival more than any physical characteristic, IMHO. Great question Jonathan! And what I think is wrong with straight eight notes is that 98% of rock songs have bass lines that are straight 8th's...do something different, IMO. A recent song that comes to mind for me that has a very driving bass line that is NOT straight 8th's is Bruce Dickinson's "The Tower"...the main riff/verse of the song has the bass doing muted 16th's with an overdriven bass tone, pretty killer IMO...search for it on YouTube and you'll find the video. JonathanD
Virility was the wrong word... rabbits! The thing with 8th notes is it can't last the whole song just like climax would not be fun for 2 hours Also the band is Female vocals, Male vocals+bass (Me), and drums. Its kind of on me to fill up the perceptual field that people normally devote to 1-3 guitars, maybe keys and a bass. I like trying to get outside of the box. Immigrant song, oh how could I have forgotten. Jonathan
Gruuve
So, you don't have a guitarist? Man, you've got your work cut out for you, I'd say. Let us know how this goes... JonathanD
So far so good. We got whooping and hollering from people we don't know, and an immediate request for contact information for future gigs and an invite to open for a band at another gig.So far I just play my style and the singer does hers without thought of it needing to compete with other setups. However today I realized as I typed the earlier post that maybe there are certain types of bass lines that just wont work without a guitar so in a way my options are changed. Kramer Ferrington III.
Well, does the drummer have a twin KD pedal? If that's the case, get the DRUMMER to do the 16ths and you can chug away on power chords. Band MySpace My snazzy t-shirt empire
Eric VB
"Barracuda" / Heart. "Bolero" / Ravel. Not quite up there, but I think "Enemy Within" by Rush has a pretty snappy bass line, too. Can't play those fast 8ths or 16ths for a whole song? Crank up the tremolo instead!
