Boggs
I entered the one with the crooked tree in a contest and it is now a semi-finalist... It was also selected for publication in an upcoming book! The book it will be published in is called Endless Journeys (ISBN: 0-7951-5247-7) and is scheduled to be out from the International Library of Photography affiliated with the Library of Congress in Fall... It is also a semi-finalist in the June contest at picture.com . Monthly Grand Prize is $1,000.00 and there are 40 Solid Silver Medals and 73 Solid Bronze Medals awarded. I certainly don't have any expectations of Grand Prize, but to medal would be cool... I can't afford to get the book at this time unfortunately, but I would imagine for photography buffs, it would be a gem. They have already copyright registered the picture in my name so I still am the sole owner of rights to it. Not bad for an impulsive stop, get out of the car because you happen to have your digital camera with you and capture the moment! Boggs
Thanks, but there is some great stuff out there. There are also thousands of folks trained in photography with superior equipment, skills, talent etc. all more deserving than me. Nature presented me with a gift. I was just lucky to have a camera there available to capture it. It is about 1.5 minutes from my house. I didn't even have to work hard to find it. I will take credit for finding the crooked tree to add interest to the shot though... fantasticsound
Very nice, Boggs. Thanks for reposting it. I know what you mean about the "not bad for an impulsive stop" comment, too. I have an absolutely gorgeous shot of the lake my inlaws' live off that was the same thing. We were leaving and I couldn't let that beautiful, multi-colored sunset go unrecorded. It turned out better than I could've imagined, with the pier in the foreground. I'll see about finding and scanning it. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. BiC
CONGRATS! But beware of those book publications. My Wife also entered a contest and got her picture published. We bought the EXPENSIVE book thinking it would be filled with awesome pics such as her's. Turns out they are willing to publish almost any pic. There were some pics that made you think, "What's IT doing in here?" They are REALLY out to sell the book- working on the emotions of those they publish since they are on cloud 9 because they got "published". Simply put, you enter the contest and you WILL be published with permission. Boggs
I kind of figured that which is why I am not buying the book, but looking at their site, there is some really good stuff, too! They weren't lying about having thousands of submissions... BTW - This was not hand or machine colored. This is a pretty accurate representation of what the sky looked like that evening. It was a bit lighter than the scan appears, however. Beware, in the near future you may receive an email stating that you ARE indeed a semi-finalist and you need to come to a "convention" in Las Vegas to receive an "award". But FIRST you must pay a fee to secure your reservation. More ways for them to scam for $$$.
