My New Randall RM50 MTS Series Amp !!!

Ok,,,I got it in Thursday night and it was all perfectly packed and shipped without incident! SO Music123 is now on my ok to do bidness with list !

Fired it up yesterday morning at around 9:30 and jammed on it for about 6 hours.

All I can say is .... LOVE IT .... !!!!!

I took the 6 different modules I bought through the paces from full out to pulled back and each module (although similar in sonic vibe) really have their own personalities.

I mic'd the amp with my Royer R121 into my Grace 101 preamp and started with the Recto module. WOW what a great sound. This one is going to be one of my favorites along with the Ultra Lead & the XTC.

The recto doesnt sound very recto if you know what I mean ... I actually think it sounds more musical and not so punishing. The XTC has the Bogner red channel vibe going on for sure.

Next, I put in the Plexi and although I am not a big fan of really old classic rock crunch for my stuff this module may very well change my mind for the jangly grooves I write. At full out gain it is very musical and creamy. Pulled back it's "Communication Breakdown" to the T.

Next up was the "Modern Module"....no real great shakes here...good solid tight crunch that any good amp will get but rolled back it provides a different flavor that I am sure will be used on something.

Last but not least was the "Clean Module". GREAT, GREAT sound! Very creamy and lovely! With the reverb on it sounds beautiful. Everything from jazz to blues with this one!

All in all this will be a most excellent compliment to my established sounds I get from my Vetta II. The one thing that really impressed me now about my Vetta II is that it isnt very far off (dynamically or harmonically) from this most excellent all tube Randall. The Vetta (if you know how to dial in the sounds) can be very tubey sounding the only difference is in the responsiveness of your playing.

One side note: This amp doesnt like my high output humbucker equipped guitars. It loves my Agile AL-2800 LP copy with the Alnicos. Just Loves It! It also loved my Ibenez 540 Power Series with the PAFpro.

My Agile E1 with the Super Distortion sounds really harsh and my Agile AD-2500 with the Tone Zone isnt too far behind as well. That may change with swapping the Celestion G12-T75 that came in the Randall with the Celestion V30 I bought.

My Vetta II loves the high output pups! It will be fun mixing the different flavors

I recently bought a Randall Pro Tube 1000, made in 1988. 60w, 1X12, all tube, clean and distortion channels. IMO it's the amp Fenders have always wanted to be (at least it gives me what I always wanted from Fenders). It's made me a Randall believer, and I was wondering what kind of amps they were offering now. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy!

Oh man! A new toy! I love new toys! Personally, I think everyone should buy at least two/three new guitars and amps per year. Or month which ever comes first ;)

Rob, that is some killer tone, bro. That amp is the way to go if one wants versatility. I would love to hear the clean amp.

So you can footswith between 2 channels, right?

Smart move on getting the 50 W

I really think you need 2 of them to A/B

Say, since it's been nearly half a year, give us an update now that the honeymoon's over, willya? How's it holding up? How's it sound 'n' feel to ya now? Any interesting observation? Does it play well with all others (cables, effects, different guitars 'n' pickups 'n' tubes, etc.)?

Still lovin it BIGTIME. Even more actually. I have had nothing but pure tone bliss with this amp. Everything from Blues - Metal being achieved with ease.

Plays great with all of my guitars now that I have learned where the sweet spot is with the settings. Swapping out the stock speaker with the V30 was a great move!

Loves all my pedals too. I have the Fulltone FD2, a Boss OD3, a Boss Dynamic Filter FT2 and a Memory Man Delay/Echo.

Out of all the modules the Modern one is still my least favorite. But then again I am not a fan of the Nu-Metal sound.

My fav modules in order are the:

Recto

SL+

XTC

Top Boost

Ultra Lead

Plexi

The clean module is excellent and loves the above pedals as well.

The amp does have a floor switch to go back n forth between preamp modules and swapping out modules takes like 10 seconds.

I have tried different preamp tubes (short and long plates) and it loves them all. I tried a pair of EL34's and it rocked with those as much as the 6L6's. Biasing the amp is super easy via the panel on the back using a digital multimetr and a flathead screwdriver. Took like 20-30 seconds to bias the EL34's when I tried them.

Mic'd with my Royer R121 I am in tone heaven and can get any sound I want.

I see myself only using my Vetta II now for just doubling ryhthms with different sounds and tones or for lead playing. I have some seriously great sounding lead settings for the Vetta (not that the Randall doesnt sound great too). The Vetta also has some really cool clean settings too.

So between the two I can dial in any tone or sound effect I'm hearing in my head.

Rob, so when are you going to pick up another one for a backup rig?

I have spent more than my share of the family nest egg on what I got so far :) ) I need to start recouping!

Come on man, get another and put 'em in stereo.

Wouldn't it be cool to get the XTC and the Plexi blended w/ a stereo chorus split?
