  1. I have the MODX7 so have the equivalent case, and it's not bad. There are better cases out there but it does the job and seems sturdy enough. And no, no sustain pedal included but they aren't commonly included with most boards.
  2. Not by the look of it: https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/accessories.html
  3. Just a shout out again to the Yamaha / MODX workflow. I'm doing a pick up gig for NYE and needed to set up 25 or so performances and then add them to the live set screen. I just love how easy it is from whoa to go. Really impressed Am also travelling light for this gig - not using Mainstage but will be playing music off iTunes in the breaks. Love that I can just run laptop audio through the MODX as well.
  4. Would this work for you? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ST0FK12/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Interesting and thanks as always, will check it out!
  5. Shipping in January, according to my friend at Radial. Thanks Sven, my fingers are now crossed
  6. This may not be news to everyone but is to me - some of the online retailers are listing pricing for the KL-8 e.g. https://8thstreet.com/Product/Get/78656/radial-kl-8-rackmount-keyboard-mixer - Street price of $699, retail of $750. With exchange rate that probably prices me out
  7. A shameful admission from me: one (of a few reasons) I went with the MODX7 was the last three digits in its name
  8. My latest rig as of last Sat night: Kronos LS and a MODX7 with Macbook Pro running Mainstage and a Key Largo Thanks for the help with posting the image Phreakay
  9. Ok wonderful will check that out as well - thanks
  10. I'll give that a try. Pre gig I tested them on my phone and laptop headphone output and they sounded great. I am - will try a different adapter for sure, good point. Mackie 802 VLZ4 is what I'm using but starting to wonder if I might buy a Radial 2 channel thing to achieve same purpose. I plus the 1/4 adapter into the headphone output of the Mackie via the adapter. I have the Key Largo Monitor L&R go into one of the stereo line channels on the Mackie. As far as do the keys sound ok without the feed - I found it varied i.e. still getting distortion once I turned up to compete with on-stage sound. Which makes me think IEM seal is part of it for sure. Thanks again!
  11. ajstan you may have nailed it, plus a huge thanks to the other great suggestions. My signal chain is as follows: FOH feed into line input of my Mackie mixer. Keys only feed from Key Largo monitor output into line input of my Mackie also. I run my in-ears by connecting them to the headphone output of that same Mackie mixer. On the impedance issue the AM Pro 30's are 59 ohms. So now unsure what I should do to fix this? Seriously, this forum rocks.
  12. Played my first gig with my MODX7 on sat night, cannot fault it unlike my in-ears etc. Very impressed.
  13. I recently had a very similar experience. My idea was to use IEMs with ambient ports for practice, with the dual benefit of hearing my keyboards well and reducing the high volume of the band entering my ears. (It's gonna be great, I tell you!) I bought the less expensive Westone AM10s to try it out. I don't play much low register, given the band setting, so thought the single driver might be suitable. And at home it did sound reasonably good. But at practice, it was a disaster. Funny thing, though, I'm not sure how to describe why it was so bad. Somehow both the keyboard through the IEM speakers and the band through the ports sounded heavily distorted. I don't quite understand why. Wish it would work though. I'm hearing you. On the distortion you mentioned, am getting the same thing plus some sounds just don't sound like they should. Example: patch is a piano sound - out of FOH it sounds ok but to me through IEMs it sounds like an out of tune honky tonk piano. I'm assuming all the other noise is somehow changing my perception of the sound.
  14. After playing two gigs with my Westone AM30s I'm actually thinking of selling them. For me they've been a disaster. From what I can work out, our on-stage volume levels are so high that I can't get enough volume through my in-ears without them distorting. I'm going to double check it's not a seal issue in addition to the ambient component but they just aren't working for me
  15. Based on my little info/experience so far, my feeling is that MODX interface is better for assembling patches out of existing sounds (i.e. creating Yamaha Performances vs. creating Korg Combis), but Kronos interface is better for editing the individual sounds. Yep good point - most of the work I've been doing is setting up performances and it's so much simpler on the MODX
  16. I'm a few weeks in and now that I'm used to the MODX interface I'm going to say it's superior to the Kronos interface
  17. So excited to have two songs I co-wrote and played keys on, released. CDV is a theatrical rock band. We had the songs mastered at Abbey Road which was just a little bit exciting as well Spotify link iTunes link Band website
  18. Hiya, To answer all the questions: 1. MODX keys are standard synth keys whereas the LS is piano sized but not weighted. So they're quite different but the MODX feels 'flimsier' to me but not surprised given cost differential. 2. I've gotta give the thumbs up to the MODX touchscreen - it's smaller than the Kronos but much more responsive - more like a smartphone whereas it's a constant thing on Kronos to have to press harder. 3. Never owned a Motif / Montage before - last Yamaha I owned was an S70XS. I prefer the Korg UI big-time but I've managed to work most things out on the MODX without needing to refer to the manual.
  19. A mini MODX(7) review from me: - damn I love how light it is - plastic body but feels sturdy enough - navigating patches isn't the best I've seen but workable - a key frustration for me is that there's no numeric label on the new performances you create for yourself - a pain when using MainStage to change performances - sounds themselves - enormous range and quality is good too - keybed is ok - nothing to get excited about but workable, also aware Im spoilt having a Kronos LS that has a keybed I love.
  20. Aidan thanks for the great review :thu: - am even more excited now.
