Overreact much? I'm not wrong. I don't know you from Adam; respect isn't automatic for me. I commented about one post which gave me the impression that you were defending Fields. I'm not going to track down everything you have written about him. It's not that important to me. So in the words of a former NFC North QB...chillax.

Pittsburgh doesn't get rid of good players and the Bears were desperate enough to seek help at the WR spot. Giving up a 2nd rounder was a big mistake by Poles. Claypool has all the physical gifts but he's a head case, a malcontent. You can argue that the Bears coaches suck and didn't us him correctly, but I don't think the same argument applies to the Steelers -- they got rid of him for a reason. The move cost MIA next to nothing, and the Bears are lucky to get anything for Claypool. It will be interesting to see how McDaniel works him into the rotation. It's not like they needed a WR. For the Bears it was addition by subtraction.

It sounds like you are. I have seen him play in every game. He doesn't pass the eye test. He holds the ball too long. He doesn't throw anyone open. It's hard to explain away 40 turnovers in 32 games. Can't keep blaming the other players for his mistakes. Yes, the coaching staff is terrible. Poles is not a good GM. The Bears are better served starting from scratch and continuing to stay in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes as opposed to winning five or six games. But knowing the Bears they will win just enough to put themselves out of the running for Williams and keep Fields. (Or worse, pick another bad QB in the first round.) It's just the McCaskey way.

Magic Johnson confirmed the rumors of a name change. I don't know what names are being proposed. I read that some football fans like "Redhogs" as an homage to the old name and to the great O-line of the 80s and 90s.

What do people see in Fields? He threw for 300+ for the first time in his NFL career (30 games) against a team with one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Then proceeded to get sacked, fumble, and let DEN scoop and score to close the gap. Then needing a FG to tie, he threw a bad ball that was picked to stymie any hope of a comeback. His turnover stats for the 4th quarter are amazingly bad. And we are not talking about a rookie here. This is his third year in the league. If anything he's regressed, his performance yesterday notwithstanding. Gault was fast but he wasn't even the best receiver on the teams he was on. Bad hands. DJ Moore is a stud, a true #1. Harrison would be a nice pick, but a luxury. The Bears need a top QB, O-line help, and D-line help, especially edge rushers. I don't trust that Poles can evaluate talent. Too early to evaluate his first draft which might turn out to be ok, but his FA signings have been god-awful.

Yup. Bears fan for a long time, and the NFL for even longer. (When I was a kid I was a big fan of Bart Starr. When my older brother found out he told me that he would kick my ass if I rooted for GB, so from that day on I've switched to the home team. The Bears own the Panthers' 2024 1st rd pick so Carolina is out of the equation. Fields is terrible, so yes -- the Bears WILL take a QB with one of the two (early) first rounders they have. Maybe not Williams, but some other QB better show something that scouts feel makes him better than Caleb. And there is a distinct possibility that the Bears could have the first two picks. Draft a QB with #1, and they might trade down a few spots and grab OT Olu Fashanu. The second pick is likely going to a team who loves Marvin Harrison Jr, so the Bears could get a bit of a haul if this scenario happens. (And I say will take a QB but the Bears have not been football smart since the Jim Finks days. If only the Idiots McCaskey could be fired.) Lots of games left to be played, but on a short week the Bears will lose to Washington to be 0-5. The schedule doesn't get any easier for them after that.

Da Bears are in tank mode even though they are still trying to win, that's how bad they are. They will take USC's Caleb Williams with their pick or with Carolina's 1st rounder. Fields is not a "franchise" QB by any stretch. A turnover machine, yes, but not a professional level quarterback. Poles, Getsy, Eberflus (and former DC Williams) are all in over their heads. It's an embarrassment. Eberflus makes Marc Trestman look like a HoF head coach, and Getsy being considered as a future HC is laughable. I just hope that Kevin Warren sees this mess for what it is and gets rid of the whole lot from Poles on down.

An organ sound works for many guitar-heavy songs, but a song like Fell On Black Days is a bit of a different animal. I would try what Anderton suggested and use a good guitar patch and try to mimic the chords without dominating the real guitar(s). Two-note power chords would work well. (You probably wouldn't need to do the bend if it didn't sound right.) If the band doesn't need a perfect cover you might try a string patch, like a nice cello sound. With that you could just play the root notes during the verse and improvise a little during the bridge and chorus. This approach might only work on an acoustic version but personally I would give it a shot to hear how it sounds with full-on electrics. Fell On Black Days (acoustic)

I have that Creed album on vinyl. I went to my local record shop back in the day and it was playing. I liked what I was hearing so I bought it. But much like the clothes you buy at the store that you hate when you try them on at home, I played the album when I got home and wondered what the hell I was thinking. So now I own a once-played mint copy of the "original" Creed.

This is more of a "best singer you never heard of" post, but I fell in love with Lauren's voice after finding her on Bandmix when I was searching for a vocalist. Thanks for the post. I am also a big Kansas fan, especially the pre-Point of Know Return material. I'm just a hack keyboardist and I had a strange audition for my first "serious" band sometime in 1977 or '78. The leader/guitarist comes over to my parents' house. He looks at my equipment -- I can't remember everything but I had an M3 (not cut down...eeesh!), a Leslie (don't know the model), a Freeman String Symphonizer, and some brand name monophonic synth (which later was upgraded to an early model two-voice Oberheim). He started to look through my vinyl collection and somehow found my Kansas collection. He said "Are you a fan of Kansas?" to which I replied "Yeah. They are one of my favorite rock groups." Looking pleasantly surprised he asked me to play a C Major chord followed by a C Minor. And much like the Capital One commercial with Slash, the band leader said "You're in". So much talent in the band. Although he is never mentioned as a top drummer, Phil Ehart is easily my favorite. Hope had a great sound on bass and the whole band just sounded super tight. And Livgren was a brilliant songwriter. Personally I am more interested in the music than lyrics in songs, but you can't help but take notice of the wordcraft when listening to songs like The Wall or Child of Innocence (or even the rocker Down the Road). The song that immediately came to mind was Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. One of the most sensual songs ever written has this odd, somewhat abrupt ending, with lyrics that seem to be written for a different song.

Good thread. As much as I love music I was never a concert-goer. I have seen maybe 10 concerts in my life, mostly because of seating/sound issues at venues that weren't designed for music (the old Chicago Stadium, for example). So I can't say that I have seen any bad concerts but I certainly have had my favorites. At the top of that list would be Blue Oyster Cult. A big fan before they got popular (pre-"Agents of Fortune") I saw them at the Willow Ice Chalet in Willow Springs, IL. General Admission tickets and my friend and I got in the line pretty early. We were probably 50 feet from the stage, near the center. A decent-sized crowd, a few thousand jammed onto an ice rink. The opening acts were Roger Moon (he was booed off the stage; I had never heard of him), and Joe Vitale's Madmen. They had pads covering the ice but it was still too damn cold to sit down. Didn't matter -- I would have stood for the entirely of the BOC act no matter what. I also saw the late Jeff Healey at a bar in Urbana/Champaign when I was a grad student at the U of I. Color me super impressed. His live guitar playing was every bit as good as his studio work. He was a gifted musician and an inspiration. My worst concert experience was at the first (and last) Joliet Jam at the Joliet Memorial Stadium circa 1974. The Beach Boys were the headliners but my friend and I (same friend from the BOC concert) really went to see Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I had just graduated high school and my friend was a couple of years younger. We were soooo naive (as were our parents). It was really a large drug and alcohol party and that was not my scene at all. We left after BTO finished, and that was probably smart. One of the opening acts was Fresh Start. I loved their sound and wound up buying what I think is their only album. I was a bit surprised that they weren't successful. Check out a song called "Taking Care of Business" on the Yootube. Interesting coincidence that BTO had a big hit with a song of the same name.

Is anyone else getting blocked from the v-combo.webspace.rocks site? Malwarebytes blocks me because of a phishing problem. My browser reports that the site cannot provide a secure SSL connection. I tried using http: instead of https: but no joy. The Google drive files are accessible so that's great, but there was some very good VR-09 information on the v-combo site that I would still like to have access to. (The Wayback Machine didn't work either as the URL was never archived.)
