  1. When I first started, I ALWAYS used big sticks, like 2B, play and play, and then when I went back to my 7A, it was so easy to play.. Very good exercise, but it's something I haven't done in 30 years.
  2. Paiste. I love 2002, but have had to upgrade, or downgrade, etc. There's nothing better for me than a 20" 2002 Medium Crash Someone I know found a cheap Zildjian at a bazaar and all it needed was to cut a triangle. It doesn't sound good, so I guess it's an "effect" or when I've hit the others too much, although I don't hit the cymbals much. I've had a China and a Splash, and got rid of them pretty quickly. I have a Paiste Signature around the same price as the 2002s I'd love to trade, but it's such a hassle selling online. Oh, and I recommend the 15" 2002 sound-edge hi-hats.. I had to downgrade, but they have riveted bottom cymbal to avoid air lock.
  3. I couldn't get any work on Fiverr.. I know it pays very, very low, but I need the money (trying to save my brother's house), but I've felt useless and when not a single person inquired about my services, I thought to myself, "Maybe I should just quit - I'm 41 and have been doing this for 30 years". But I've found people on there where within 2-3 days I got exactly what I wanted without weeks of talking, and then silence. Is it just me, but I get very stressed. It's usually a language barrier problem I think, but when people don't follow direction, or whatever.... Someone asked me, "Where are the mistakes" and it was hard for me to point out time-stamps of a dozen of mistakes, but paying $7.78, I can't expect something amazing, and sometimes just edit my way in.
  4. I started playing drums at 11, and immediately got into a band with my neighbor. I started writing original songs and did the band thing for a while, traveling to Europe and playing with some serious musicians. Punctual, too! When I came back, I thought I'd buy a home studio. I already had drums/percussion, and bought a guitar, bass, keyboard, etc., microphones, a Tascam DP-01FX (which I still have/use).. I kept traveling, and would be in a short-term band.. I busked all over the world as well, partly to pay bills, but to try something I never did. When people come to your show, they're there to see you. But when someone is not expecting this, and takes notice and likes it, it was a great feeling. After almost two decades, I wanted to expand, and started composing brass/orchestral, and finding a woman to sing vocables on my instrumentals. I don't have the money now, so my new thing is to make music with different tracks from unfinished works (mostly) but I wish I had a producer or just anyone to give me motivation, and another ear. For a decade, I've tried to find people or even one person to record - over the internet, or in person. I had many dreams, but one was to have a record store with a recording studio, mostly to talk music, face-to-face.
  5. I used to be strictly a one-man band, doing instrumentals, using my Tascam, Shure microphone, and instruments. No computer. Well, after almost 2 decades of that (while playing in a few bands, mostly overseas), I thought I'd try my hand at brass/orchestral arrangements to improve older songs, or for new ones.. I also wrote a few songs with lyrics and found a woman to sing, although I usually just have her sing vocables... I also have started to use Audacity, but won't add any effects except reverb (to hide the low quality of my instruments, but I was burglarized, and it's that or nothing). I do like editing on this more because my buttons on my Tascam DP-01FX need to be pressed so hard, and you can see the waves on a computer, but there is a detachment I feel takes away from the playing. I try to do as many takes as possible, and say I'll take bits from each, but I wish I could find a producer, or someone willing to trade off. Unfortunately, my brother passed away a few months ago. I have a few of his notebooks and have mixed some of his music and will hopefully complete it one day, but I've been looking for musicians my entire life - North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and think I'd have a much easier time if I wasn't a drummer first and foremost.
  6. OutForSmokes Podcast (when they have no guests especially), who took over my Bill Burr time, although I listen to some when I'm cleaning the house.
  7. Thanks.. I would prefer a real great electric piano sound. I'll look into all of these. I just found a video on YouTube of that keyboard with the electric piano. Cheers everyone! P.S. - I have a Casio LK-30.... I'm listening to the CT-S1 right now. There's three great sounds. Stage Electric piano. Phaser Electric Piano is pretty good. Amp 60s piano is real cool, too!
  8. My budget would prefer the cheapest one, and 61 keys is good enough. Hammer-action keys are preferable. I spent $10 on my last keyboard, which is just fine except the electric piano settings which all sound like the 80s sound, when I'm looking for a 70s sound (intro to Eagles - I can't tell you why) and it's not like I'm making enough to justify a high upgrade, but still something to think about. Maybe keeping my eye out on one locally, or somewhere online where someone needs quick money and sells a used one cheap. I wish I knew, but my brother bought a keyboard that cost SO much, and the electric piano sounded exactly the same. In fact, 90% of our keys were the exact same sounds, about 100 different settings. It's not as sensitive as mine, but besides a few more bells (additional sounds I don't need anyway), it wouldn't make sense to pay about $700 more for a very slight difference, but my brother spends a lot of money as a status symbol.. just to tell others how much he spent on it. I bet he hasn't touched it in weeks or months. My dad has an awesome red cherry Fender Strat, and used it to record some songs on a few of my CDs when I borrowed it for a pretty good time, but suddenly he doesn't want it leaving his house. He never ever plays, and even when I did borrow his guitar (about 15 yrs ago), I told him he could borrow my electric guitar which has the strat body, and he has a good Fender amp, so he wouldn't know the difference, because I'm using it for studio purposes, and the sound and even my playing is SO much better on the Strat.
  9. I once got a cheap Casio from a non-professional band for $10 this century, and it has a nice piano, but I always preferred acoustic pianos, but with limited space, I had to sell mine years ago and now I have less room, especially with many other instruments around. But, I can never find or play a keyboard that has a 70s electric piano sound. They all sound awful! Anyone have any recommendations? I'm not sure what or when I'll buy something next, but your replies will help. Thanks in advance!
  10. Video, because I prefer it, but also because I only access YouTube via TV
  11. No computers. Just instruments.
