  1. Unless its been re-instigated, the own a plug-in after a year has been dropped as a benefit. This was a poor move in my mind
  2. I am seeing on the news in the UK its rumoured that the event has been cancelled. Any news from trackside?
  3. Ouch that is going to hurt. Be interesting to see if the FIA follow and cancel the whole event. Really enjoyed both series of 'Drive to Survive'. A nice look into F1 even if slightly dramatised.
  4. What will be interesting is how they monetise this. The DAW platform is free and I cant imagine they are producing this from the goodness of their heart. Music Tribe companies almost solely produce hardware. Maybe their computer hardware will provide added features in the DAW? (a bit like apogee hardware can be controlled within Logic) or they will move to produce their own version of the UA ecosystem and make money through selling plugins tied to hardware which may only work in their DAW, or something like the X32 or WING consoles will integrate seamlessly into the mixing environment. The market is pretty crowded for a "me too" product (even at free).
  5. Few basic checks 1. Have you created an object in the layout editor for the launch key? 2. When you move the launch key controls do you see activity in the midi monitor in main stage? 3. In the external instrument channel strip have you selected the launch key as an input? 4. Have you selected the radial as an output?
  6. Viewing these posts is fascinating. I am too young to have been there at the time (I'm not young at 37 but didn't start gigging until late 90s) but god we have it easy these days! Laptop/controller (or hardware board), small mixer or DI and plug into FoH. Tablet or phone to control our in-ear monitor mix - job done!
  7. Unless the sound guy knows your music inside out and can identify what sound is coming from what keyboard, I would sub-mix your keys and give him a stereo feed (if your PA is stereo) or a summed mono if not. If you have your patches well balanced volume wise (which your post suggests you do) he should only need a sub-mix
  8. The RAM is user upgradeable on these so you would be bonkers to buy from apple. Get the 8gb version and buy the RAM from Crucial. About £120 vs the £540 apple want!
  9. Don't forget the Wave only had two "slots", with layering but no splits. This has four slots with layers and splits, so it's like 2x original Waves, and then some. Yes most of us Wave owners wanted a "2" just for splits! Agreed. The architecture looks quick similar, but with more of everything (like the extra 2 layers as you say)
  10. Looking at the front panel it looks liker per layer effects which is nice
  11. This looks to be a nice follow on to the original Wave, with more of everything and modern improvements (finally a split function!). I see it has an arp (also something missing from the original) but I do wonder if it is missing a sequencer (I don't recall any Nord products having sequencers). Something like the sequencer on the new Wavestate would be pretty awesome
  12. Sounds like an interesting gig. One pitfall of cloning his MainStage file will be if he has programmed sounds using plug-ins you don't have. Ahead of time it would be worth knowing how he has build his MainStage file, what he typically programmes each pedal to do and what plug-ins he has used. Also the keybed size as you say
  13. Latency is largely due to audio processing. RME is considered one of the best for low latency drivers, and for continued support for their products. I use a Radial Key Largo which I find gives acceptable latency and serves as a sub mixer. May be overkill for what you need though
  14. Observation: Anotherscott, not sure what your goal is here. You ask, which do you like? Is that the goal? I would have thought the better question would be, which sounds closest to the original recording? When you get an answer like the one I quoted, you get someone who says that they like the #1 and it sounds like my Nord Stage 2EX. This person might not ever have ever owned a real hammond and all they know is that they like the sound the Stage 2EX puts out but is not really the closest to what a Hammond actually should sound like. This might be what your after. When you play a clone everyday that sound starts to become the standard by which everything is measured. Again, I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish but if it is to compare the progressive rock sound of Yes (in which a real organ was used) you should be asking which one compares closest to that sound? At the end of the day I think that is where the manufacturers and the players are trying to get to. It would be extremely helpful if you used a real hammond and say "this is that same lick played on a model X hammond with a model y leslie, which of these unidentified clones sounds closest to the real deal". My two cents, which in this forum is all that my comments are worth..... Dave you are right I have never played a real Hammond. My post was an observation of the sound I like (probably because its the sound I know). I also know that sound works for what I do, in the settings I do it. BTW I am no organ player compared to some on this board
  15. Interested in Sidecar with an iPad. Do you know if you can use the iPad as the only screen? (I get this isn't its primary purpose). I am thinking of an upgrade for my Mid 2014 13" Macbook Pro and considering either the new 16" Macbook Pro or a Mac mini. The Mac mini is about half the cost for not much less in terms of performance. For gigging though i would need a screen just in case (I don't look at the screen whilst playing). The iPad as an option to quickly see whats going on to fix a problem would be an ideal solution.
  16. I liked #1 and then #5. I think #1 is the Nord as it sounds close to the clonewheel in the Stage 2EX I have. The majority of the others I didn't care for in this setting. From the posts in this thread though, with the exception of #5 which is getting lots of thumbs up, very much each to their own.
  17. I was tempted by the deals on Ableton Live upgrades (have a licence for V6 but haven"t used in a long time and fancy getting back into Live) but didn"t pull the trigger and probably wont now. I have been pushing my wife towards a Mac mini as a gift for me for Christmas. No deals at Apple but a few on official resellers. It"s David"s fault for his excellent post on his new mini!
  18. I have picked up a few things music related; Waves Gold bundle was down to $84.50 and Harrison Mixbus was down to $19 so thought would see what the fuss was about. I also come across Mix the Music where you can download multi tracks of famous songs and practice mixing in a special version of Presonus One. I haven"t downloaded this yet but thought would be a good way to hone the mixing skills!
  19. You could connect the midi controller either via USB into the Kronos (as it serves as a host) or via midi if it doesnt have USB
  20. I don't have a Kronos but imagine it works like many other boards. You could connect the laptop to the Kronos via USB and use that as the audio interface. The laptop audio would combine with the Kronos sound engine at the main outs of the Kronos. Not sure if there is a physical knob to control usb audio level but there will be somewhere in the mixer section.
  21. Getting video out of an ipad is easy using a lightning to HDMI adaptor How do you want to trigger the right lyrics to appear?
  22. Does this Jupiter pod the ACB models like the system 8? Or is it something different. Trying to work out what this offers over the System 8 other than more conventional sounds and multi parts
  23. This is a guess of course as not touched the board but I imagine the split button is for making a quick two zone split in a live performance situation. Back in the day the XV88 has a one touch piano button for configuring the keyboard in a piano mode for live playing. I guess it"s something like this.
  24. I especially like this Doesn't mean that they will necessarily be class compliant - i wouldn't be surprised to find them to be specific to certain Roland products, same as the USB device connectors on the MX-1 mixer. - Jimbo The manual online is incomplete but it does say on the connections page: - "EXT DEVICE jack (1, 2, 3) Connect these to an external USB device." so there is hope...
