  1. Life is best when treated as a game so now you have a word challenge to have fun and tap dance around.
  2. Multiple times I've heard name players say in interviews to find a preset that is close to what you want then modify it, that started from scratch is too time consuming. To me that's like learning to play music you start with a transcription that you've made or purchased and then start adding your own flavor to it. No one is 100% original everyone starts from influence they heard growing up you could call presets, then you playing it your way. So why not on a piece of hardware start with a preset and if time is limited just use a preset that gets the job done and move on.
  3. That sounds more like when hard disk drives (HDD) were be used instead of digital drive. With HDD all that stuff on a single drive you start getting access delay from the head having to jump all over the platters to access multiple files.
  4. As Chick Corea said..... it don't matter what you play outside it's all about how you come back inside.
  5. AI will put a lot of ghost writers out of work who made their living writing incidental music.
  6. Others copped Richard's notes, but they never got his feel.
  7. So taken a trip back to the mid 60's and my friends and I went to the local club and heard the Mandela from Canada. There music was so different from the typical rock and roll, we were hooked instantly and went to hear the Mandela every time they were in town. That where we first heard a 7#9 chord before Hendrix and what we called "off beats" on the drums. They had quite an influence on us.
  8. I don't see it so much as a replacement but another tool for the human creator. That DScript when I saw it demo by a creator he was still in control of the script being feed to it and making changes on what it did. Now the video generated that could replace a lot of making B-Roll for video saving time to focus on the main video content. So just another tool.
  9. Video is an area where AI generated video is getting to be amazing looking maybe ever scary how real it looks. The one recently getting talk is Sora below is a video on it. Just saw a video on another tool called DScript for that edits video based on text. The video of a YouTube creator did was so cool how quickly it edited his raw video from the text of what he was talking about and he could quickly add or change what DScript had done to make it exactly how he wanted. AI is doing amazing things in the video world.
  10. Sound like piano bar in Twin Sh17s Iowa Holiday Inn.
  11. Mike Dean is one of the two big keyboard players in the Rap scene the other is Scott Storch, Scott mainly plays piano not all the synth stuff like Dean.
  12. Terrace Martin keys and sax from Herbie Hancock's pre covid band, add Robert Glasper who with Terrace have been working with Herbie on an album and do a good Soul sound tune. Oh yes, with some Kamasi Washington on sax too. Gonna be a groovin' Saturday night, enjoy all.
  13. This is a great IG post by Scary Pockets with Jack Conte, his wife and band, his wife describes analog perfectly. WARNING don't like four letter musician speak don't watch. This is IG so have to unmute the sound. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3WEr5dsMUQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  14. Reminds me back in early days of computers and the 5" and 8" floppy disks. People would have trouble putting the floppy disks in the right way. I would tell them in training there are eight ways to insert a floppy disk and only one is right and once again have point out how to tell which was the right way. Then Apple and that stupid "Flippie" disk they came out with for the original-Mac the Apple Lisa.
  15. I don't think it wasn't it own thread it was part of the thread on Generations of Jazz pianists. Do a search for Mehldau and you will find all the posts.
  16. Here's some Guru with Slum Village so it must be a Dilla beat. Also anyone from WLA will probably remember the original location of Record Surplus a great place to get used vinyl and CD's. It was one my favorite places to go when I had nothing to do and just browse thru the CD's, they had some CD players with headphones to checkout the music before you bought it. So seeing Record Surplus in this video brought back a lot of good memories.
  17. No way I'd do that myself especially if soldering is involved. I've watched a number of repairs done by 3rd party businesses and seen all the gear they have for doing micro-soldering and working looking thru microscopes on Apple electronics. I would find one of the reputable Apple repair businesses and be done with it.
  18. Apple had Studio Displays on sale so I picked one up and just got it at least temporarily setup it connected to my MBP and sits next to my desktop. Boy it was a lot heavier than I expected but the stand is very sturdy, the speakers in it sound good especially for ones in a monitor. It supports a long list of resolutions so my MBP is running Ableton Live and Logic Pro and much easier to see on this 27" display than my laptop. So real happy with it and looking forward to checking out a movie on it.
  19. Just saying Rock bring in a big collection of subgenres from Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk, to Fusion that are all under the generic Rock label. So I guess I got a lot of miles on my musical car. Generic use of Jazz and Pop are same a lot of subgenres under one label.
  20. What are the boundaries to be called Rock. Also a lot of my list is guys who did tons of sessions for all types of music.
  21. This website has all the generations covered so just go for it.
  22. What a great group Jeff Beck is still the greatest Rock guitarist every period. I saw this band in concert and something happened and Cozy Powell didn't play drums, but out walked Bernard Purdie dress like a used car salesman in slacks and a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Dam they groove hard that night with Bernard on drums.
  23. Leon Russell Stevie Wonder Spooner Oldham Greg Mathieson Mike Finnigan Earl Van Dyke Bill Payne Russ Ferrante James Poyser
