  1. It sounds great. The recording and performance is so crisp and clean!
  2. I have the MS1 and still thinking about getting a DM12 at some point. The build quality isn't top of the line obviously but get what you pay for.
  3. I went ahead and put a post up over at the "shameless plug" forum. Just wanted to mention it here since there are 250+ people looking at this forum and only 2 ppl "viewing" over there. thanks again!
  4. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to post but here goes. Just finished up a couple of rough mixes (synth-wave-y type music) and looking for a little feedback. I'm not an audio producer but a lifelong musician who is just experimenting around with keyboards, following my ear, and learning as I go. I can post dropbox links or send them to whomever may be interested in giving feedback. For me it's all about the learning process. Ideally the person giving feedback would have some experience mixing, producing audio, or would at least have more experience than myself (which isn't a lot). cheers!
  5. Definitely love to stand and play, especially with simpler tunes. If I were performing a more intricate style of music i.e. jazz/classical I would probably want to sit.
  6. This is something I've been meaning to ask on a forum for a while. I play on a couple shared kits and once in a while someone will come along and tune the drum so tight it's literally to the max (with the snare wire also maxed out on tightness). I feel I have good technique and decent handle on rudiments but when it comes to this I can barely play a decent sounding drag/roll and the drum sounds all choked and dead. My chops go down the toilet on a snare like this. I really don't understand this approach. I'm just wondering, what is the advantage to tuning a snare this way? Is this a drum corps thing that I never grew up with? Or do I need to work on my technique even more intensely so that this style of tuning feels more natural to me? Any insight may be helpful. As far as my preference on tuning, I prefer top head to be tuned fairly tightly but also loose enough so I can bounce the head of the stick comfortably with a slight bit of resonance echoing after each hit. Personally, this method is much more comfortable and musical feeling to me.
  7. to be fair we didn't spend much time dialing in the EQ for the Nord so it's possible to make it work I suppose.
  8. a band I'm currently in uses a Roland JC for a small vintage transistor organ - called an Acetone. It sounds really good. Once we tried to run a Nord Electro 2 hammond patch through the same setup and it sounded pretty shrill for my ears. So I guess it really depends on the audio source.
  9. To my knowledge unofficial showcases are still happening.
  10. We caught Filthy Phil a year and a half ago or so in Oakland. His vibe was positive if not a little geriatric. He was hobbling about on a cane and sat on a stool most of the set. Needless to say he did not play any drums. I guess he has had some health issues in recent years. That being said he seemed genuinely stoked on being there, and the band was also quite good. His son came out and did a couple songs with him and that was kind of interesting. I definitely don't regret seeing it, but there were some sad aspects to it. I will probably sit out on a Genesis reunion, but good for them!
  11. Washing hands is the first thing that comes to mind but it'd be difficult for young students to follow through with this.
  12. Wondering about community keyboards i.e. schools, churches, band spaces etc. Does anyone know of a sound method to limit the amount of germs on a keyboard without using dangerous liquids that can effect the keys/circuitry? I've been meaning to try and get to the bottom of this for a while. My guess is that its complicated. cheers!
  13. Thanks for the tips! I've been gain staging everything at around -18db even with the -20db pad depressed. There is no noise that I can tell or any issues with this approach so far. My question was one of curiosity of how others may approach this option. There doesn't seem to be a consensus in this thread on whether or not the pad should be depressed when recording keyboards. Maybe it depends on the keyboard and whether the signal is analog or digital. I might just go back and retrack some things with it un-depressed to see if there is any difference at all in the sound quality.
  14. if you really want to work on yourself, I recommend therapy. it's helped me a lot.
  15. I was doing some recording of keys into my DAW this evening and I noticed the -20db pad buttons on the back of my audio interface. Wasn't sure what to do so I just pushed them in to be safe before laying down tracks. Things seem to be sounding good this way. Just wondering about what other folks do with this when recording keyboards into a DAW. cheers!
  16. I never understood waiting for half hour to pay 20 bucks for eggs, potatoes and coffee.
  17. Great video on the CS-80. I'm always curious about it.
  18. I thought there were 2 bars of rest at the top. what gives???
  19. Yes, I checked my cables and they are TS unbalanced so it's likely this would solve the problem. Thanks for noticing that! The VR 730 doesn't specify whether it's outputs are balanced but I'm assuming they are?
  20. Interesting. Thanks for the lead! I think it's technically a used model or like you said "open box" for that price. Still quite the bargain.
  21. I was thinking of trying it this way at some point. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a long time rock musician and tracking/mixing/mastering in their separate phases is how I've always approached music production in every band I've recorded with. I tend to think that way also.
  22. Just wondering where I can find a DM12 at this price point. For a new one, I only see the mid $800 range (which is still reasonable).
