  1. I had an RC30 and had no trouble as the saying goes if you RTFM the info you seek is contained therin.

It took me a bit of effort but it worked in the end but unfortunately I cannot run you through it step by step as I sold the RC30 two years ago when I bought an exdemo GT100 at a guitar show.

  2.

My ES110 action is quiet and fast and with lower inertia resistance than others in its class. The Piano and Rhodes samples are good when edited. A noisy action has no importance, real piano actions are noisy but folks don"t seem to notice. What counts is inertia, down weight and up weight and return speed. What good is a quiet action if it wears you out, doesn"t let you perform at high speed?

Glad you are happy with your ES110

If a keybed has a noisy action is important for me, since I play with headphones on at home and my Wife is in the next room and sure as eggs are eggs she does not want to hear the clack, clack of me playing a noisy Kawai ES110 keybed.

Hence a Kawaii ES110 is a non starter.

The other, far more expensive Kawaii piano I looked at in the store did not have the noisy keybed but was £1000 more expensive.

  3.

Kawai ES110, terrible clacky keybed so did not turn on the keyboard.

Hope you never hear an acoustic action, if you are ever in the market, as you would dis every maker. IMO, action noise means zip, unless you're worried about neighbors and family while playing with headphones.

My thoughts exactly. Out of those mentioned ES110 has the best action by a mile.

Sorry folks, what I wrote is what I found.

Add all the key noise from all the other keyboards and it would still be far less than the Kawai.

Maybe it was just a bad example but it was what it was.

Yes, I have played acoustic and they are far quieter than the ES110 I tried.

You may like a noisy action but I do not want to wake the neighbours with the loud clacking when Imam playing late at night with the headphone on so the Kawai was a non starter.

  4. I have been in the market for a digital piano in this price range and have tried quite a few.

Kawai ES110, terrible clacky keybed so did not turn on the keyboard.

Korg B2, OK sound but a spongey, no feel keybed.

Korg D1, reasonable sound quality, not a bad keybed but the following are all better.

Casio S3000, great sounds and features let down a bit by the keybed. No opposition in the price range but it is getting close to the price of a Roland RD88 for it to be considered by myself

Casio S1000, great sounds with limited features with keybed like the S3000

Yamaha, P121/125 great piano sounds, a bit lacking clarity in the non piano sounds but still very playable

Roland FP 30, great sounds throughout and the best keybed of them all imo, piano sounds of Yamaha are better but it is let down by limited output options.

So a close call between the P121/125 and the FP30 but IMO both are far better than the Casio models.

So good in fact that I have just bought a P121 to put me on before I decide what workstation I want to buy.

  5. There is a whole world outside the birders of the USA that have very different educational systems.

One thing that does seem to be common is the reclassification of the Arts as a whole and not just Music.

Whilst part of the National curriculum the standard here in the UK is for each child in education to receive tuition in playing the same musical instrument for a minimum of one term throughout the whole of their school lives. One term can be as little as two months, so yeah a lot of potential for no achievement there.

  6. I build PC"s, not specifically for music production but for Video Editing.

I updated my 6 core, i7 CPU PC to Windows 10 and the Firewire card that I have installed no longer works correctly.

It is a Driver thing that does not have a resolution for the Firewire card that I have installed

As for GPU cards the software that comes with them on CD or via a Download installs lots of cr4p unless there is a hidden option to install the Driver only.

  7. Well said Dan.

Kids should receive a fully balanced education, including all the Arts.

Alas in my Country education is being dumbed down so a very high percentile will obtain an A in each subject.

    Exams are frequently multiple choice.

My Wife is a degree qualified Art Historian and rampant book collector so between us we have Art covered and our Grandkids are encouraged to be creative.

  8. I"m a Brit who used to like to watch Am Football, but we used to get a match highlights.

Just how a one hour match can last for three hours is beyond me.

I usually record it as it is on far to late for this old guy and then I can fast forward the ads which we actually do not see, we see some guys rabbeting on in a studio to fill in the times of your commercial breaks.

There is so much fast forwarding I swear I go through a pack of AA"s.

Has anyone ever timed just how much actual movement takes place during a 60 minute game, my guess is less than 10 minutes.

    Great result though

  9. Job done.

Made the adjustments to the A800 and the Apps in iPad now works with the A800.

Plugged the A800 into the iMAC and opened the Audio MIDI Setup Window and it showed a similar layout to the image but no links so I created the links and now both Garage Band and Main Stage work with the A800.

Very many thanks for you precise and very informative advice, please accept a long distance pat on your back and my sincere thanks.

  10. Many thanks for you response.

I have not tried any MIDI monitor Apps.

All controls of the A800 show a result in the onboard LCD screen.

I am using USB connections not the 5 pin MIDI, the USB connections worked great with the Arturia controller and I do not have a adaptor box for connecting via the 5 pin connectors on the A800 to PC, MAC or iPad.

It is getting the A800 working with the iPad that is the most important to me, connecting the USB output of the A800 to the Apple Camera Connection unit and then plugging that into my iPad does not work with any App even though I am powering the A800 with a genuine Roland Power Supply.

Using the Audio MIDI Setup on the iMAC does not show the A800, rescanning does not show the A800, so I manually created the five setup elements and the links but still it does not show anything.

I did find a warning online that updating the OS should be withheld until Roland release an updated driver, so this may be the issue with the MAC since it is already updated to the latest OS.

Win 10 PC still is an issue yet to be resolved.

I will contact the company I bought the unit from Monday morning.

  11. On my PC I have the latest version of Cakewalk and Abelton Live Lite 10.

On our Mac there is Garage Band and Main Stage all of which are the latest versions.

On my iPad I have a host of many music apps including Garage Band and again all up to date.

I had an Arturia Keylab Essential that worked great with all the above, but sold it as the keybed is pretty rubbish.

So I bought a Roland A800 wanting a reasonable feel to the keybed and I am now frustrated as the damn thing is not working with anything.

PC is running up to date W10 and I downloaded and installed the latest Driver and Ableton Live control Map.

MAC is up to date and again latest drivers and control map installed.

I have tried the A800 both powered via USB and using the correct Roland power supply.

I literary do not know where to turn next.

    Any ideas?

  12. Sticking with new kit only, have you thought about simply buying an all in one Mac?

We have a 27' Mac with 1Tb fusion drive 16Gb RAM, the 4k image is stunning and it flies through the prime use I put it through which is video editing a process which is far more demanding than music creation.

Would probably work out cheaper than a new Mini plus upgrading its RAM.

  13. The worst thing is to do a job you will dislike.

The prior post on being a Tax Guy at a CPA totally fills me with dread, I would have committed suicide being stuck in a desk job for years on end.

I retired a few years ago with 25 different jobs under my belt, I now live comfortably doing what I want, when I want

Financial benefits mean zilch if you are unhappy doing what you are doing, you only do that kind of job when you have kids to support.

Until they get to that point in their lives let your kids follow their dream.

But do in-still in them a Plan B.

Life is not a rehearsal, it is a one shot deal, live it to the full.

  14. If you can just go to a Music Store and play whatever you can, you will soon get a wish list.

Lounging on the sofa is eminently possible, seek out a Hofner violin bodied (as made famous by Paul McCartney) the acoustic body resonates well. Also check our a bass Uke, there are many Kala Ubass"s to choose from and in particular check out a fretless model.

  15. You might also consider an all in one pedal unit where you will nit be limited in either features or in this case Amp and Cab modelling.

I have a Boss GT 100, and a Zoom G1X Four both have plenty of amp patches.

Overall far better vfm than a mass of pedalunits.

  16. Not a lot of gain going for an old Mac.

I have friends with 10 year old Macs that are stuck with the OS pre Mojave and old software which in their case is FCPx.

I am in the UK and a new Mini is £2000 with 32Gb and 1Tb HD, the processor is 6 core so it would be very fast but in any Computer it is not just CPU it is RAM that matters.

You may get so cashback from Apple for a new Mini, over here they have been running the cashback option fir a few years now.
