  1. Strange things, Kurzweil moving to Medelli While Nord moves to Kawaii I know what i prefer...
  2. It's the only K3000 we're ever going to get, and it's close enough for me. I do wish Kurzweil would give us one "Flagship" keyboard with the best of everything they have to offer like Yamaha Roland and Korg usually do. Why not at least make the larger Pianos and Flashplay memory capacity from the Forte an option for the PC4? What world do you live in? To get the best yamaha has to offer, you need a cp88, montage, genosand a stagea.. Also Roland been spreading their tech over many instruments, only serving the low end and middle markets The only instrument offering the best a company ha(d)s to offer is the Korg Kronos.. And just behind that is the Kurzweil Forte.. And maybe the Nord stage 3..
  3. Looks interesting, hoping the knobs are encoders The ribbon input is there Looks like drumpads on the left.. Only downfall from the Forte is the 2GB + 2GB memmory But it has double the polyphony Also hoping the keybed is tripple sensor ..
  4. No keyclacking here.. i dont gig much with it... but play a few hours a day in rehearsals.. For a lightweight plastick key, it feels very durable, no complaints there...modern day plasticks are some of the strongest builds, they keep strong while still being flexible..
  5. Well, the P-515 isn't under $1200. ;-) But they are an icredible stage piano for the money... same as kawai mp7 and roland fp-9 in that price range... spending a liitle more could give you so much more
  6. Currently considering an analogue desktop model.. Either the DM12 or the Novation peak.. Both are quite different, so maybe both They will be a great addition to my modx8 Any advice is welcome tough.. Maybe a DM12 as 2nd keybed, controlling the peak?
  7. Diving deep in Diva? So much fun... its my main goto now for all things analogue sounding..
  8. I think your opening question there is asking whether there is anything else at its price that could be a better MIDI controller, right? I might make a case for the Numa Compact 2/2X, because you get aftertouch. All the other stuff you lose I think can effectively be replaced by everything else you have in that rig. Almost everthing, except the arps of the modx, which i use a lot for many different thing, next to its great sound, it is the major sales point for me on the modx.. Aftertouch however is a nice touch, and probably the only thing missing on modx.. I alsoont think the numa 2x has the ease of use of the modx, which is another huge advantage of my modx.. the main reason i replaced my kronos with the modx.. the workflow is incredible
  9. At the current price, is there any reason not to own a modx? Its the perfect base of your setup.. Just add some modules (gemini, integra7, peak) And some vsts (mainstage, komplete, omnisphere, keyscape, pianoteq, diva, v-collection).... My current mini setup consists out of the modx8, a small self buid rack with these modules, a mac mini 2018 with huge external drive, an ipad as the screen, and 2 korg nano 2 (controll and pad) .... and yes, there is lots of room on the modx8 surface for the korg nanos and my apple trackpad.. But then, for most a modx7 stand alone will work just as well
  10. Makes me wonder if the Forte is rivalling the Kronos in the workstation department. And does it rival the Montage for DAW integration?
  11. I don't think anyone is talking about those types of things. The complaints are from actual owners complaining about the keybeds having loose keys, noisy keys, uneven keys, etc. Most owners dont have any complaints at all about the keybed.. I guess those who have a faulty keybed are better off contacting Yamaha, from my experience they are pretty good at handling warranty calls.. My modx 8 keybed is what it is, its simple straightforward and good to play If i wanted a stage piano, i would have bought a kawai or a nord..
  12. Analog synth and tonewheel organ sounds are always second rate in a straight sample-based system. Thats probably true... but then its not a fully sample based instrumemt... Altough the FM part does not add much in this case... I am pretty much convinced the Next iteration of Montage will also have a VA engine I doubt yamahas moddeling technollogies will ever find their way into the Montage/modx..
  13. As an allaround keyboard.. What types of sounds in modx/montage could use some improvement? Parsonally i think the analogue solo sounds dont cut it. But thats about it for the modx as a live instrument.. The montage as a studio instrument might be a different storry..
  14. People underestimate the strength of todays high quallity plastics.. I had a drunk storming on stage crashing my keyboard rig..my Genos dropped 4 foot dow on a corner, one would expect a killer drop.. but there was no crack, just a scratch.. and the keyboard was still as straight as ever.. The big advantage of todays plasticks are its incredible flexibillity combined with metal like strength.. When a metal keyboard drops, chances are huge that it will be bent amd not straight anymore.. Now there definately is a huge amount of different plastics, but todays high end plastics are stronger then metal cases... and lighter..when metal bends, its not as flexible as these plastics..
  15. Anyone found any alternatives to the Yamaha Gig Bag? The MODX7 is an odd size, too big for standard 61-key bag and too small for 76-key bags. I am looking for a soft gig bag, something like the GKB bags for Gator. Sizewise, it should fit in a 76 key nord stage bag..
  16. I have an ipad controlling allinstruments.. Its also a midi router, its easy to send the same midi to 4 midi channels.. There is allways an easy workaround for any problem.. No instrument is perfect, thats why we willprobably allways be using more then one instrument.. The problem with the internet and people allways whining amd complaining is that problems are allways blown out of proportions.. This probably also is the case for the modx keyboard clacking described in this topic.. There is no single instrument brand (not even behringer) offering so much bang for the buck as the Yamaha modx 6...
  17. Overhere in Holland prices from Modx8 have dropped from 1850 to 1530 ove the lastweek or so.. Delivery times are up to 6 and 7 weeks tough, noboddy has any in stock.. So what am i missing here?
  18. My interest in the Forte recently peaked. Just wondering, about the sound quallity of the Kurzweil.. And while the sample memmory promisses a lot.. The VAST engine its VA part as well as the VBK3 seem ancient .. Altough i dont know how much they updated these and the dsp effects over time? How would you characterise the Kurzweil sound? Programming riffs and arps and sequencing used to be a pain in the short time i owned a pc3x, has this imporved with the new interface? Whats left of the orriginal stage piano? Seems to have turned into a fullfledged workstation? How easy is it to sit down, quickly layer 3 sounds and play away, as one would expect on a stage piano?
  19. Its incredible how much Kurzweil has done with Forte What started as a stage piano has turmed into an incredible sytnth workstation.. I wish they would make the eq knobs assignable... probably my only wish left for it..
  20. This news actually triggered me to buy a used cp4.. The cp4, is still a perfect instrument for the lower position in a setup due to the comtrolls sitting all on yhe front.. it should allow me to have 2 keyboards right on top of eachother more akin to an organ, instead of the 2nd keyboard hoovering high above the first one.. I dont see much difference where it comes to sound quallity, and keybed quallity... the cp4 still sounds and feels top knotch
  21. Sampletank indeed leads the ios sampler market.. They would be wiseto push this to ios too..
  22. Cp4 was perfect for lower keybed.. could have a 76 key just above it and still read and reach all he buttons..
  23. Yes its in the specs, but i can not find any direct way of comtrolling these zones.. Kawai mp have several direct buttons for the external zones.. Same goes for Rolands RD800.. and their RD2000 even more so.. 4 buttons, 4 sliders and 4 knobs would ave been reat for direct controll of the external parts There is room enough for this on the panel.
  24. Definately deserves its own thread.. They are follwing the nord school, i guess.. Nifty interface... Yet the part i loved most of cp4, all its buttoms on the fromt still make it the perfect lower manuall in a setup..
  25. Those acoustic samples should eventually find their way to th Gemini as well..
