  1. The tracking of the entire travel is really a huge thing. Part of what makes the Osmose so cool and allows you to shape the envelopes with your fingers instead of just firing off an ADSR. The VAX77 could do it, but there was nothing available to take advantage of it. The new Yamaha mentioned being able to do it, but I don't think it has been implemented in the sound engine to date. The similarity between the Polybrute's "Morphee" and the Touche, as well as Arturia's implementing what seems like some of the capabilities of the Osmose, makes me wonder if there is some kind of relationship between Expressive E and Arturia. I don't think they will be able to replicate the Osmose's "pressure portamento", as I think Exp E was only able to do with with Haden's permission. Either way, it is absolutely on my radar to replace by Polybrute. Probably an insta purchase. Much of the expression of the Osmose, save the manual pitch bend, but with a powerful and intuitive analog engine instead of the somewhat daunting Eagan Matrix.
  2. Yes - you have it right. It would be swell if modules could function as host the way a laptop/iPad does so I could plug one USB cable from YC88 to Prophet. Yamaha, Roland, and StudioLogic at least all make stage pianos with audio/midi interfaces as mentioned in item a) above, so that you need only plug one USB from keyboard to computer to get the audio at the keyboard outs. No need for an external interface. I was waxing rhapsodic about being able to replace the computer with a desktop module. Anybody who uses a desktop module by definition is driving it from either another keyboard or sequencer. It would be a handy feature to have. I understand there would be challenges involved, and that it is not a horrible inconvenience and some cases even preferable to simply take the audio from the module. It was a "wouldn't it be nice" post. Agreed with a post above that an iPad makes for a great module, and it works now. Now that there is Logic for iPad, perhaps MainStage for iPad is on the horizon.
  3. That, even though they DID include the ability to control an external instrument from the synth section. How cool would it be to bring the audio in and have it present in the FX section?
  4. Whereas..... It is by now fairly common to have usb audio/midi on stage pianos and work stations. And if you are using something else, something like a Radial Key Largo basically gives you that capability. I love using my Yamaha YC88 with my laptop running MainStage. A single USB cable and the audio comes out of the Yamaha. But what I would REALLY love is to bring, say, my Prophet 10 desktop, connect with a single USB cable and do the same thing. I think the Iridium has that capability. Yeah, it's only one extra cable - midi to the module, and audio out of the module. But it is nice to have master volume in the same place, nice to not eat an extra amp or mixer input, etc. On the flip side - keyboards that have that capability should allow the USB audio access to any onboard effects. There are some that do, but nothing I own does. If I were producing the album, this is how things would be. Thank you for listening, and for just being you.
  5. I absolutely love the Nord Grand as a stage piano, but i don't think this is enough of an enticement for me to upgrade. I need it to play one piano sound at a time. That's it. If they fixed the issue with the triple strike capabilities not transmitting properly though midi I might think long and hard about it. And for the love of Donnie Hathaway, please, please give us a serious XL Wurly sample set. Contract with Scarbee or someone. It should not be an afterthought. Bring it up to the quality level of the Rhodes sounds.
  6. One of my Wurlies lives at a friends studio and he has an older Princeton reverb. Match made in heaven. At my place I generally use a Silverface Twin or a Kemper amp simulator.
  7. That's my go to for mono live use as well. The mono button on current Nords is my favorite feature, but that piano in particular works as well in mono as any sample based piano with which I'm familiar.
  8. My Electro is painted black. My Grand is original, but I may strip the top and side panels and have them be natural wood. Nothing against the red.
  9. I'm quite curious about the new Fender FRFR12 for use with keys. Basically just a powered speaker, but I prefer the form factor to my QSC K10.2
  10. I am doing one of 3 things: 1. Upgrading my version of NI Komplete 2. Upgrading my Spitfire BBC Orchestra from Core to Professional 3. Purchasing Cinesamples Musio 1 Still weighing the pros and cons.
  11. I have one too, and agreed. The VAX-77 was quite nice, but no longer have it. The new Native Instruments controller works OK. I have it to sit on my main desk, as the MIDIBoard is too large and on a stand off to the side. I almost sold mine, then hooked it up to some of my synths that speak PAT and thankfully came to my senses. I have heard GREAT things about the new Yamaha Montage implementation, but of course, you need to buy a $4500 workstation. Oh, the Osmose. groundbreaking on a number of levels - but takes a little acclimation, where the others are "normal" keyboards that are PAT capable.
  12. Also 60, and lug FAIRLY heavy gear around. Always one full sized weighted keyboard at least, or a Vintage Vibe EP, usually with other stuff. I was recently diagnosed with Tendonosis - colloquially known as tennis elbow - in both my elbow and Bicep. It is the wearing away of collagen around the tendons, as opposed to tendonitis, which involves inflammation of the tendons themselves. It is a 4-6 month recovery. If I could be happy playing a single non-weighted board I'd pick up a Stage 4 Compact and live with that for a while. But I can't. I'm old enough that it would do me good, but also too old to make that big of an adjustment. Fortunately, I have a mini-hiatus after tonight to focus on studio projects. It hurts like hell in daily life, and moving gear, but it doesn't hurt much to play, other than that wide intervals in my left hand have gotten uncomfortable.
  13. My original Electric Blue (not the one I currently own) had excellent aftertouch, so it can be done.
  14. This is just hearsay, but someone familiar with both stated that Rudi's was the better of the two. That would be much appreciated!!!!
