  1. OK, a double confirmation that I should go for a bass combo. Cphollis, thanks for your post. You explanation coincides with my experience. Now I realize that bass combos will serve me better for the kind of music I play. There seem to be a lot more choices on bass amps, too.
  2. Anyone using a bass amp with the SS3? What would be the pros and cons of using a bass amp instead of a powered sub? Thanks, in advance, for your input.
  3. I received the sub yesterday. I don't need thumping bass for the kind of music I play. This sub is too loud! Also, I realized that this studio sub is a little difficult to take on the road. I am thinking of getting a small bass amp. Monoprice has some decent products. I've ordered some 1/4", XLR and MIDI cables from them before and they're good, hearty cables. I've seen this before and would be willing to try it out, except (like Aspen pointed out with his Sony sub) this seems more suitable for a studio application than being built for the road and gigging with. MPN21, let us know if you end up picking up Monoprice's sub and trying it with the SS3!
  4. When I back to Monoprice, I saw a $20 coupon for products over $100 in addition to 15% off bringing the price down to $166.99 with free shipping. Just the right time, I guess. I went ahead and bought the subwoofer. The offer ends today. Somebody asked me to post a review if I get it. I will do so, but I invite anybody to give me specific procedures and guidelines so that I can be as obejective as possible.
  5. Aspen, thanks for the great review. It is good that we owners of the SS3 have a few good and inexpensive subwoofer options. It seems that for my small gigs even this studio subwoofer can do the job. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=605999 I complained to Monoprice why they are selling it $10 cheaper on eBay when it costs them to sell their products through eBay. Well, today I foud out that they is a 15% discount for the sub. One question I have for you Aspen is will the TRS connections be OK with the SS3 unblanced outputs?

MPN21, let us know if you end up picking up Monoprice's sub and trying it with the SS3! I totally agree with you in regards to all types of cables and products by Monoprice. I do 14 hour flight travelling quite a bit and I love using a Monoprice noise-cancelling headphone. It works very well. Some even say it works better than their own "famous" $300 headphone by a company that starts with the letter B. Well, I am in the habit of paying for quality but nor for names. Anyway, if I do get their sub, I will most certainly share my experience here. I did some tests by connecting the SS3 to the subwoofer portion of my Maui 28 by LD Systems, also a 500 watss, 22 pound Acoustic Image Corus, and Roland BA330. I think I got better results with a $50 KHL E 10 subwoofer - something similiar to Aspen's Sony wub. I'd like to have some control feautres on the sub, though.
  7. Wow. I honestly was not trying to mislead in my own assessment of the really mini tremor. Admittedly I have nothing else handy to compare it to, but I definitely find a noticeable difference playing through the SS with and without it, especially when using the drum machine, but also with the lowest piano notes. Yes, I need to turn the sub volume almost all the way up to hear anything, but I just assumed it was because of the level of the signal coming out of the SS. I guess maybe I need to get my hands on another sub to test with to see what differences there are. My sincerest apologies if anybody picked up a really mini tremor on my say-so and was disappointed. I don't see any motive for you to mislead. I appreciated your post on your experience with the Really Mini Tremor. It works for you and others. To be honest, it might work for me, too, but Aspen is kind enough to make another purchase and try out the bigger sub to give feedback to owners of SS3. That's very nice of him.
  8. I stumbled upon this sub. It has some pro features. http://www.monoprice.com/product?pg_no2=4&c_id=115&cp_id=11504&cs_id=1150401&p_id=605999&sortby=&period=&rating=&seq=1&format=4#feedback
  9. Thank you, Aspen, for your detailed, professional report on the Really MINI. A good thing that I waited for your report. Sure appreciate your doing all these tests for SS3 users.
  10. Obviously, when it comes to subs, bigger is usually better. It depends on how much more oomph you need/want. I believe Aspen has gotten by with a whole 4-piece through his SS3 and a hi-fi sub. The really-mini-tremor should give you more bottom than that. It's not plaster-shattering thump, but it definitely fills out the low end very nicely, enough to make a difference between my drum machine sounding good or not. Unfortunately I can't tell you in a wordy post if that's enough for what you need. I am also trying to decide between the Really-Mini-Tremor and the Mini-Tremor. The Mini-Tremor is a little bigger than the other one. Yes, 27 lbs vs 43 lbs, but I am thinking that it is only 1 pound more than CPS. I am waiting for Aspen's thoughts on the Mini-Tremor as he said he was getting one.
  11. I tried my Soudblaster Play2 through CPS to see how a software version of 3d effects for the Soundblaster USB sound card works with CPS. The effects were not as noticeable on CPS as it was on a 2.1 monitor system. I think it's because CPS was already creating its own a 3D sound image. However, It still enhanced what I was hearing from CPS with more punch and presence, and it did not get in the way of what CPS was doing with incoming singals whether they were stereo or software processed 3D. If it made quite a difference, I wanted to get that Behringer or more expensive Soundblaster USB interfaces for my laptop. Aspen, if you ever try it out yourself, please let us know.
  12. Has anyone tried something like the Behringer FX2000 3D Multi-Engine Effects Processor with the Spacestation? It is supposed to create stereo and 3d effects and has very good reviews everywhere. Will a singnal processor like that defeat the purpose of the Spacestation or enhance what the Spacestation does well already? Just the other day, I got my Soundblaster PLay!2 USB audio interface for my laptop. It comes with editor. When in surround mode, it really opens up the acoustic space, but when I turn it off, the laptop is in its regular stereo. So flat that it sounds like I am listening to a mono speaker!
  13. Thank you. I wanted to make sure mine doesn't have the same issue.
  14. Thanks for all the help! I did use some cheap dual cables, but I think, to my embarassment, that the major source of the problem was a pilot error on my part. I connected a midi module and my MS Surface Pro as my sound source, and the main volume on the Surface Pro was too low! I knew how good the SS could sound, and I didn't want to easily let go of it. I'm relieved now that there seems to be no issue with my SS. My module and VST plugins sound great through the SS. Also, through the process, I learned why my Roland accordion did not sound good nor was I able to control left/right(bass & treble); the Roland V accordion's left and right outputs bleed into each other. On a conventional stereo system, the L/R balance knob of the Roland accordion works just fine, but not with the SS. Once again, the SS is not to blame and but the accordion itself. I found out that going through a mixer, the issue is solved. Thanks again for al the support.
  15. My SSV3 started developing a horrible distortion noise when the Width knob passes 9 O'clock. I connected the midi module and the amp on the same strip. Even before, I could not turn beyong 12 on Width. Has anyone had this problem?
  16. Thanks, Sleepingbear, for your tips. Your suggestion did work though some faint treble sounds did come through the AI even with the Mid and High at zero. That AI is a complicated thing! The cheap KLH E10 home audio subwoofer gave more bass than the AI without any treble sound! So Until I get the MINI, I will use the KLH. The SS3 sure sounded better with sub support. Shadowman, thanks for the tip.
  17. I don't know what I did wrong. I connected the SSV3 to my Ai Corus, and the Corus did not sound right. There wasn't any volume or bass... However, when I connected a cheap home audio subwoofer, there was a lot of bass, and the whole thing sounded great! It is good to know that the SSV3 does work and sound great for many. I guess I will just have to go through the leaning curve.
  18. Thank you all for your replies. I will probably go with the Mini. I guess I really don't need the fancy and probably weak studio sub anyway. I like its flexible connections, though. I ran another test just now and compared the SS3 with a Roland stereo amp. The Roland sounded so "2 dimensional." Talk about flat! When I switched back to the SS3, all of a sudden there was a large acoustric expanse. It was as if the instruments had enough space between them, not croweded That was pretty pleasing.
  19. I got my Spacestation last week. I do feel that I need a sub. The Behringer B1200 seems to be an overkill for me. I was looking at the Mackie MR10Smk3. Mostly I play in a small place upto 100 people. Has any used the MR10Smk3 with the Spacestation? Thanks
