  1. Does a Swish count as a China? If so, then yes I do. Mainly I use a Paiste 20' signature as a ride cymbal. My first China experience was with a Sabian Carmine China. Boy, if you wanna kill your guitar player, this was the piece. It didn"t last long in my setup as I discovered that unlike regular crash cymbals with which you could strike more or less interchangeably, a china crash only works in certain places and screws up things to my ear if you simply substitute it for any other crash.
  2. Wondering the same thing when I first read this. So now does someone in the band have to provide worker"s comp and all the rest of the stuff that a 'regular' employer does? Boy, that will be fun for all the weekend warriors out there.
  3. Reason was gonna be my answer. It comes with about every basic plug you could need and if you want additional 'rack extensions' they are typically about 1/3 the price of VST plugins. I think it is a lot easier for music users as they way you route things is to just grab virtual cables and plug them in in just about any order you wish
  4. It may or may not be the vinyl. There are sounds you can record on tape or digital that cannot be directly translated to a stereo groove because of the phase relationships. So a mastering engineer has to modify the original phase relationship to maintain a groove. Sometimes it works better than others. I remember a certain ELP record I had that would not track even with $1500 worth of turntable/cartridge/tonearm very properly set.
  5. I used a pair of Etymotic full range custom molded plugs for years (unfortunately many years too late). But even the 15dB plugs cut way too many highs and limit my enjoyment. I"ve gone the route of custom molded earplugs. When left unpowered they block about 25dB. I use a little Rolls headphone amp that has both a line in for a monitor mix from the board and a mic input with which I plug an omni mic. I bleed a little of both back in. That gives me much better results than the plugs alone.
  6. Hey Mike ... My Prius Prime has over 1100 pages of owner manual. This is a consumer device! What make it worse is you cannot look up item in the index unless you know the correct Toyota term for it. I see it as a big problem for product designers. I can give you a million features to tweak but we"ll never live long enough to find and understand them all.
  7. The question about clip lights was about trying to get some sense of how strong the signal from your balanced outs is with everything maxed out. Doesn"t really matter with the hookup you describe above.
  8. Ok ... first there is no particular problem using the DI if it fixes the problem. Running into the mic input will have a tiny bit more noise that if you could make the balanced line ins work. But if it works for you there is no reason to change it. You didn"t answer my question as to whether under any circumstances have you ever flashed the clip LEDs? Not that I suggest you actually run this way. But if you use xlr to xlr cables to run from the organ to the speaker and you turn up the volume knob al, the way AND you turn up all your tone controls to +12, volume control to max and pull out all the drawbars... at that point can you trip the clip lights? I too checked the owner manual and there are no real tech specs tp let us know what"s going on. Possible you have what"s called an impedance balanced output, which generally doesn"t have as much output as a fully balanced output. Alternately you may have some funky wiring scheme on the organ output wiring.
  9. I"m confused here. If you cut the shield how are you getting a return line? It takes 2 conductors to make the signal flow. Maybe you are confusing this with a telescoping shielding system in which a separate wire carries the common signal and the shield only shields the pair conducting the signal. But even in this case it does not remove the ground loop. And while ground loops can cause some noise (and you always have ground loops when running unbalanced), the noise in your example with the computer is almost certainly a result of the switch mode power supply (wall wart) powering the laptop and not a ground loop. SMPS power supplies do not have a ground reference so your audio output on your computer is ungrounded until it hits the receiving end (which hopefully is grounded).
  10. Noise is an entirely different issue. I"d have to know a lot more about your system. I wouldn"t expect flipping polarity would cause any difference to tone, although it may make a difference in level depending on how things are configured.
  11. The XLR inputs jacks on the DXR10 do expect a standard +4dB line level input which keyboards do not put out. However the 1/4' jacks marker 'line' are only looking for -10dBu. So a properly wired unbalanced xlr to 1/4' should work nicely. Then just use the level control next to the jacks. This Hosa cable should work fine.
  12. Almost every self powered speaker I"ve run into will drive to full power with a very low line input level so that seems odd. Also I can"t imagine any impedance issues with any modern keyboard equipment. If you run your keys into the line input ... can you EVER light up the clip LED? Specifically which keyboard and speaker are we talking about.
  13. I think people need to understand that most of these 'reviews' are subjective. There is no single right or wrong way to do anything. I always view these reviews as something to investigate to see if they have any value to me and my equipment. I"ve never tried using 4 compressors in series. Maybe it works and maybe it doesn"t. Very easy these days as you just add another plugin. I didn"t view the video you are referring to but I guess you could consider using multiple compressors to model the artifacts of some old favorite. Probably though, it"s more a case of 'I paid for all these buttons so I better use them'.
  14. At least we think we are ð
  15. We turned down the gig because they only wanted to pay us $1000. Looking back now, probably not one of our best decisions ð
  16. I have no reason to believe they are not authentic. But after trying a ride and a crash, I think Amazon is just dropping the price because the demand is very low. I had to pay the return shipping charges but otherwise got a refund.
  17. Yes. Disappointed two out of two times.
  18. How about AI beats from Sony? https://venturebeat.com/2019/08/05/sonys-ai-drums-up-beats-for-songs/ Looks like they only analyzed about 600 songs. But imagine if they had analyzed 600k. Humans ... your time is running out. 2045 is coming. https://futurism.com/kurzweil-claims-that-the-singularity-will-happen-by-2045
  19. Hey Geoff. Thanks for illustrating my point. Both of these renditions of Cloudburst are covers ð Well ok, Jon Lambert wrote lyrics to a jazz tune so maybe it"s only half a cover. For those who don"t know about Lambert, Hendrix and Ross please take a minute to go listen to check out this video. In this tune the middle section is a note for note transcription of Lester Young"s sax solo but now with lyrics. I can"t even read the lyrics as fast as Jon is singing them. This is one of my all time favorite performances.
  20. How about the other way ... songs you first heard as covers and only heard the original versions later on? Twist & Shout Piece o" my Heart Time is on My Side You Ain"t Nothin But a Hound Dog
  21. Don"t understand that. If I wanted to hear the original, I"d listen to the original.
  22. If Paul and Ringo reformed the Beatles with two other guys and played Beatle music (including John and George songs) would not they sell out any stadium in the world in 5 minutes. I don"t think anyone would feel ripped off. I"d buy a ticket
