  1. I have 2 of these Ev subs but, I was told the outputs Were full range & that the 100 hz was a crossover Point for the speaker. Yet I've seen YouTube vids Saying it is at 100 hz out. So? I haven't tried it that way as I use a mixer Aux out for sub.
  2. I have a couple of Bag End up for bid on Ebay. They just don't push air Because they are sealed subs. Sold em'
  3. And then theres the Spacestation... Sorry, just thought I'd Try to get back to that topic.
  4. Before the SS pair I've used the DSR 112's with a QSC Ksub And a couple of monitors.
  5. If you go that route, why not the Yamaha DXR series? DXR10 light and portable. The are pretty nice for the $ with Nexo help design. I think they hold up better on the loud side of things vs the QSC
  6. Give the Man an Amen. WE come first people not the audience or FOH . WE are the artists. I can't believe how backwards today's "logic" is. The funny thing is that this is actually one on the benefits of using the SS. To hear what the audience is hearing.
  7. He has to some extent. I am using two and two small EV ZXa-1 subs for my outside gigs. So far things are going well. The hardest part is deciding where to position them. I don't always have time to experiment for a gig. I am playing today at the 4:00 To 8:00 slot. There is another player before me and another after. My trial today is To put this about 6ft behind me between us ( two players) basically in the middle back of the stage. Keep in mind I am using this as my full range system for a duo That has a midi file playing along with two guitars and vocals. So, I can't comment on the band situation other than to say,it's worth a try to use two For keys if you think you really need it. But, I haven't found (based on discussion here) that a popular solution Nor a necessity unless the band really cranks. And in that case this might not be a full on/stand alone solution. so you might have to feed to foh and use as your monitor /stage fill.
  8. The Yamaha DXS 12 sounds like it would kick but, your looking at a 73 lb Sub. Also 3 times the price. Make sure there is some distance from you. Sounds crazy But, it's possible " you think" it's not loud enough. Have someone listen at some distance if possible To the over all mix and see how the mix really is. Placement can be key
  9. Ya know, I hate to admit this but, I have had moments like this. All be it with a different circumstance as I am using it more as a PA. My first experience with it ddn't really wow me either at first. What I thought it would do is give me that spaced pair sound. Instead it gave me all the sound left, right middle, everywhere. How close was the speaker to you? You need some distance to realize what you have. Think about where Your wife was. She wasn't right up on it. But, she thought it sounded Good, right? This happened at a gig for me. Was too close To really get it. But, I was told that the sound was clear and even and That it was ez to communicate and for once they could here the vocals Better than ever before. I could however hear everything in the mix much better And I believe this translated to a better mix. Maybe why the vocals were easier for folks to hear. Give it some time and adjust it to taste. Everything has some kind of Comprimise so, Nothing is 100% perfect. But, I feel with the options that are out there This has been the best thus far. Don't be afraid to experiment either As this leaves a lot of room for that. and it makes it fun to use. Hope you.'ll find it a great tool as most here do. BTW, don't over use the side speakers (width) right away as I found this Adjustment caused some of my disappointment early on. It sounded like too much reverb! The room can make a big difference in what you hear. Adjust with your ears first and last!
  10. Just plain great? Hhmm? Not fabulous great? Maybe....Can I get a "hell ya" great!!!!.??? Geez....A good Elvis impersonator is just plain great but Elvis Was ggggrrrrreeattt! Oh, and Tony the Tiger also. Seriously though, good point about turning up your presence. This can make a big difference if you feel it might lack a little "Luster" Also,it's perfect if your playing rock for old folks that want you to "turn it down Sunny!"
  11. I think with just the SS would do it for keys and vocals You would need a small mixer is all. Better than the Bose in my opinion. I've owned both including the compacts and the larger l1's
  12. It is my full pa now. I have a duo "two man band" so to speak. Normally I use one Ev 12" powered sub and a SS With a Mackie Dl1608 mixer. If I need more I stack The two SS's with one or two Ev subs. So yes this cann be a great pa solution. Still new to me so it's stillin the early stages (whatever stages I can fill!)sorry couldn't resist.
  13. Tom, in your application I totally agree with you. A sub is essential in a full band reinforcement situation, whether that's one man or ten. Thanks for clarity on this Aspen. Sometimes I think there's confusion as to the application that I'm talking about vs the use for mostly keyboard only. Now,I would not hesitate to just grap one of my SS's with a small book sized mixer and use it for say a church wedding or acoutic gig. Not To mention with just my Kemper amp for guitar Only use. And I don' t want to use the phrase" Get by with " as that's not the case at all. The SS is fully capible as a PA solution. If you treat her right she'll pay you back Two fold. It 's been along time since this Old guy has been excited about gear. The Spacestation has brought me back To that excitement. Kinda like getting One of those Columbia house record deliveries When I was a teen. I couldn't wait to get. I would read all the linner notes, who produced it etc. Thanks!
  14. For me, If you have a duo(or one man band) like I do and everything is running through it,including drums,,bass, keys,Vocals & guitars...Ya need a sub. in my honest opinion. Very small gigs maybe can get away with but, I prefer a sub To cover everything. I'm using this as a full portable pa basically. So, for a single instrument like keys, that's a different story Which I am not sure about that app.
  15. Because: "Roses are red violets are blue, You don't always need a sub But,sometimes you do!"
  16. I was mainly gearing my response to the One man band idea where there is drums and bass In the mix ALREADY. Yes if your in a band situation And you don't want to compete or clash with Other low freq.instruments then no sub could hold merit. That makes sense to keep from doubling Up on freq.'s that you don't need, thus rendering a cleaner, Tighter mix.
  17. Spacestation with the brhringer sub. Sorry, in my opinion you should have A sub.some gigs you can get away Without but, not when you need to Cover more ground. Honestly, if you set The balance to taste they sound good to me. That's why it has a volume control. With what you want to cover you'd be sorry I believe without one. The B 1200d seems to be A popular choice and is inexpensive and portable.
  18. I wonder if Aspen would consider developing a suitable sub for the SS3? There is a nice little fanbase developing for his product, who might be proud to own the "matching set" Yes, and it will be a full 300 deg. Of low frequency nirvana!
  19. I'd try to blend in as best you can with just the SS and use the sub out to go to front of house in adition too. Or use your mixer to go to the SS and then FOH if it allows An additional stereo signal. Mix it your way first. Just something else to try. Seems like a lot of folks are getting away with out front Of house mostly. But, I could be wrong. Every situation is different.
  20. Maybe vs4 but, really the size of this unit makes it possibly to use in tight spaces. Besides it would increase the size and weight probably looking at a 70-80lb Cab. I think the low end on the 40lb. Sub would still beat out adding the extra weight and size., besides I can handle 2 40lb speakers with much more ez.
  21. On the sub issue. On a small gig, I could see just taking the sub out of the SS To a sub below and be done with it. It's only on larger jobs would Ii need the Crossover. But, as long as you your not cranking it, the SS sounds fine to my ears the simple sub out way. That would be the first thing to try before getting a crossover. And if you have a mixer, you could just play with the eq. Until your happy. Just a thought.
  22. Okay point made I Appreciate your insight. I have the manual but, didn't catch it. For me it doesn't matter because I have a mixer that gives me options. Even Aspen made mention that having a mixer would be an asset But, everyone's needs are different and I can not speak for that. With no mixer, looks like the B is the way to go unless you don't like the Sound or what have you.
