I was in the store today and tested the SK Pro 61 for high trigger over MIDI. It appears the Hammond rep was correct. No high trigger over MIDI as far as I could tell. I tried the various virtual contact settings, including the manual AR setting. The organ sounding point is set to shallow by default as I expected. I'm reposting the list to make it visible again.

Does that mean if you play a note just enough to catch the higher contact (so it will sound), but not the lower - no MIDI is sent?

Thanks to all for the feedback - very helpful as I need to make a decision soon.

Sales person said the Bose S1 is louder than the QSC.  Nobody on the post voted for the Bose so far.  Is he trying to make the extra $200 or is it better?

The QSC cp9 has the best reviews.

EVZXA1 gets good reviews for loudness and sound quality but some complaints about reliability.  Also, only one 1/4 inch input.

Bose S1 is battery-powered, with Bluetooth and other bits. If you don't need that, why pay for it.

My minimalist B-3 setup. B3X on an iPad mini 6 controlled by an Oxygen 61. Output runs into a Radial Key Largo, then 1 or 2 QSC K12.2's depending on the venue.20220603_114557.thumb.jpg.4dea1aad4df7cc3150bd73dfc64c05fe.jpg

Wow, you got a Key Largo to accessorise your stand - that's the cleanest-sounding, most transparent keyboard stand brace/lock I've ever seen!

Im not sure if 68 notes is enough above 61 for me

I would love an extra octave: A-E 80-key would be cool. Or even C-E 77. I find I'm missing the low Eb and D under normal 73/76-note boards

New: Kawai ES120 digital piano: 27 pounds, louder speakers, added SX-EX piano samples (more detailed than EX and better legato), improved vintage Rhodes, RHC action

Rhodes is a weakness of the ES110 - interesting to hear the update.

    class compliant external controller support

My usual questions on the subject of controller support...

Do the Dexi's allow a controller to play one sound (voice, tone, program...) while the built-in keyboard plays another?

Splits/layers on the internal keyboard possible while doing this?

Splits/layers on the controller possible while doing this? Does the controller have to manage the splits/layers on separate MIDI channels to achieve this?

The 76-key variant could be an interesting choice over a Yamaha P121 which is the lightest hammer-action 7x I know, but only has USB (device) MIDI capability, no 5-pin DIN.

Every single worship video has a Note Stage and a MacBook.... and the patches for every song are ethereal pads and (maybe) Piano.

Why? Just... why? The whole "it's red, therefore it's best" thing baffles me - and I speak as a Nordist.

Plus if you're going software, there are better controllers.

Double plus - if you just want pad+piano, get a Privia or a Casiotone and save your money.

  8. In almost all circumstances, Kronos is a first-choice keyboard, particularly in 61 guise. (The hammer-actions are too heavy). I wouldn't worry about longevity - there's a PC inside, and plenty of knowhow on how to maintain those...

However, your 80s-band employment will put your Wave 2 to good use - and it will be probably more user-friendly than the Kronos in that role.

EDIT I've just seen your comment that you create synth sounds by sampling softsynths to your Wave 2. If you're not rolling your own sounds on the Wave, then flip it for a Kronos and sample into that (or try rolling your own Kronos patches!).

  9. Wow, that song inspired a number of emotional reactions from me. We lost my father-in-law about a month ago - at least he had his wife and kids around him in his final days.

On a musical level - did anyone spot the "Blackbird" quote at around 2:33? I suspect it was an inspiration - Blackbird is about the struggle for freedom, while Down The Hall uses some of the same stylistic tropes to address a very different subject matter.

And finally - a lot of "singer/songwriter with an acoustic guitar" stuff leaves me cold, but the addition of Hammond, with its huge range of dynamics and tone colour, brings a lot of interest.

    (Edited for punctuation).

Hi, I have one of these mixers and need to use Ch1 as a line input as all other inputs are spoken for. However it appears that the 1/4" jacks on Ch1 (and Ch2) feed the R output only, consistent with the labels but does anyone know if this line input can be made to output across L & R outs instead of R only? The labels on the back of the unit show the XLR as L/MONO and jack as R, what would be the use of a line input that fed one output channel only? I have contacted support and await their response.

The L/MONO inputs on the Samson are XLR/jack combo sockets aren't they? You can connect a 1/4" jack into the big XLR-looking socket.

I think Samson expect you to use the XLR/jack combo for mono sources (1/4" or XLR), and if you want stereo,  you use the combo for L, and the accompanying 1/4" socket for R.

    Cheers, Mike.

  11. Dude no need for that reaction. My surprise is because keyboards that can act as a USB MIDI host are rare. It seems the RD88 is one of them.

The other way to connect is to use the USB B ports on both keyboards with some kind of host device/converter in the middle. That’s the common solution for keyboards that can’t act as a USB MIDI host-and what Al Code was alluding to.

    Either way, why the attitude?

When the USB2 cable runs from Blofeld´s USB-B port to the RD-88,- it consequently plugs into RD-88´s USB-A port (called "for update" in the user manual).

I´m curious if that really works for MIDI-In,- for MIDI notes only or also for MIDI CCs.

Up to now I doubt,- until more users confirm.

It´s not mentioned in the manual,- and when it really works, not Roland´s intention,- some lucky bug instead,- I guess.

It´s also interesting how it behaves when connecting a keyboard via USB-A and a laptop/ host via USB-B simultaenously,-

does only one or the other work or both ?

    🤔

    A.C.

Exactly - I had the same doubt as you, but @miden's post seems fairly conclusive. I'm keen to see a photo of the connections.

    Cheers, Mike
