  1. So in lite of Pa's trip with the trip lite folks. Now what ? $525 Furman. Gulp. Ugh!! Anything as effective for many of our modest needs that is not $525? Just askin!
  2. So can we ALL agree that for one keyboard ( maybe two someday ) and 2 amps and a fan, I ( one would be presumed ) am safe from brownouts, spikes , and area 51 type invasive activity ( P ) with the 1200 !!
  3. Since I carry the powered QSC PA (2 subs, 2 12s for tops, and one 12 for monitor) I need the 2400W capacity. In your position with various keys, plus powered speaker(s) and have a little extra money, I would get this one Furman AR 1215 because it takes a single rack space and is more precise and only weighs 12 pounds. Available around $525 (Amazon). One keyboard per gig. 2 powered speakers and a small fan in summer ( which San Diego IS about 11 months per solstice ;-) ) requires the 2400 not the 1200? And the 2400 is much larger than the expensive $525 Furman, and is more precise? Precision accomplishes what in my case? $525 is a lot of money for most!
  4. For Live playing not studio Because "nothing has happened" to my gear that I am aware of ( frequently heard among the majority of keyboard players who continue to "play the odds", doubting a long shot spike or brownout, and like their comfort zone of keeping that $250 to 500 or more dollars in their bank) after all these years, i tend to not go out and buy some protection. But when I see a thread like this, and think about the cost of my boards, i do wonder. But Senor Plain English JustDan, being as you are both en experienced player and into the electrical side of this... what advice would you give.. "do not sweat it, keep playing those odds.. or buy THIS or THAT??
  5. What does narrower Black keys mean in terms of ease of playing the White keys.. is it harder to fit finger in between two black keys.. a thick fingered user wants to know!
  6. Hey... I used to live in Montclair and Upper Montclair, many moons ago... one of the nicest places I have EVER lived in my long life.. actually the nicest! This is a great place for sharing info and even foolishness at times.. peace, Tee
  7. I may have asked this before, and missed the answer.. how deep is the editing on this board.. comparable to the Motif?
  8. Is editing a sound very limited as is generally the case with stage pianos? The EP's sound really good.. AP's too. Strings and ac basses I would want to edit a lot!
  9. I bought a demo CP5 and can still return it or sell it. Aside from weight... what are the advantages of CP4? This is a loong thread.. which is a good thing. But a short summary would help me and those new to thread! ;-)
  10. Thanks John and again sorry to alarm you. Can't say I don't recommend you turning over the CP5 and updating. But I still feel , even after playing the CP4, the CP5 is a very viable and cool ax. In fact if I were to come upon a closeout or barely used one at a great price, I wouldn't hesitate to grab it . Dave, you had advised against buying the demo at GC... but the newly lowered price of $1300, made it irresistible. Basically you feel that sitting in a corner of GC, it was beat upon, and the action is "beat"? I guess in my hurry to get it, I figured action can be replaced. Is that a poor assumption on my part? Too expensive.. or not even doable?
  11. Me too! Mine is a beat demo... scratched up on the side and all, but $1300.
  12. Fellow keyboard player - as distinct from a bored player 0_0 highly recommended this small company http://www.soundseat.com/ and yes they have a back support not inexpensive though
  13. Amen to all of that work ethic and grit Close to supernatural indeed pablo Casals Said Bach was Divine And again he said Bach was in his own category above all others- sorry for poor paraphrasing.
  14. You have no idea how universal this is. I remember the first Bach piece I heard years ago moved me to tears - before I even knew who the composer was. And I come from a very different musical background - western music forms a very small fraction of my listening. I still can't tell one piece from another, why the key scale is mentioned, or what the heck a fugue is. And I've seen similar reactions from friends who are accomplished musicians in the Indian classical tradition - even the die-hard purists who don't listen to any western music. Thanks for this thread, and the posts in it. Not politically correct but I couldn't care less... JS Bach is by far the greatest western musician composer in recorded western history. Pablo Casals says as much.
  15. Most of the stuff posted here are bands who got their start in the early 90s or earlier. But I don't care -- it's a great list! --Dave That was the dark side of my post ( you happily pointed out the light side ) What are todays young people coming up with?
  16. I'll accept "leading proponent of Yacht Rock" or "the guy that ruined The Doobie Brothers" but not "intense groove machine". Educate me please?
  17. WOW the more I listen to Nils, the more I am impressed with him... he is a bad dude. Check this cut out with Nils and Joe Sample I am loving it... a nice blend of funk and jazz.
  18. I just listened to Nils Landgren Funk Unit "House Party". I found a bit of a surprise, I felt the horns had more of a groove than the rhythm guys. That is not always the case. Any way, keep 'em coming. Just listened to Funky ABBA this is very interesting music... thanks ! Leader singer, is a heck of jazz trombone player, extremely good... and his groove is serious. More more more!
  19. I am older, somewhat annoying dude around here, But I have a more open mind than it might appear. So name some really hot, hard driving cuts, post, 1999!! Bands whose genesis was after 1999. Now I am not talking technique unto itself, I am talking about an intense groove machine. Here are some artists/ bands, that comes to mind from the mid to late 20th century. James B Average White Band Stuff with Richard Tee most band Steve Gadd graced Earth W fire Eddie palmeri Tower O P Tommy Sims Michael McDonald Marcus Miller Herbie's Hancock's Headhunter band Chick Corea's Return to Forever early Motown hits- though as time went forward, the groove weakened Jaco Elvin Jones Tony Williams So many cuts, but here are a few good ones Bonnie Raitt's "Something To Talk About" Aretha "Respect" Annie Lennox "Would I Lie to You" Steely Dan "Aja" These are the latter part of 20th Century. Those who wish to refute my bias towards the past, please do so, I really want to hear new and intense grooves.
