  1. your two and a half are much appreciated. I'd take even more if ya got em, really. Being my first ever track singing, it was also my first vocal track I've ever mixed. Also the first time I'd ever recorded an acoustic instrument (banjo, which it happened to be my second day owning/playing) or used a mic (SM57) at all. It was also day one with a new interface. This one falls into this realm: http://i.imgur.com/AfgkjCf.jpg
  2. so this is the very first vocal track I've ever recorded. Did it in one take, I just wanted to get it out and hear how I sound on a mic. Anyways, hope y'all like it https://soundcloud.com/user3642561/atlantic-city-bruce-springsteen-cover
  3. many thanks man!!! and thanks for listening! I was honestly trying to think to myself who would listen to that song or where you'd hear it, and a movie or TV theme seemed like the top of the list. You don't hear many waltzes in pop music these days...
  4. https://soundcloud.com/user3642561/under-autumn-steps Put this together this morning... just worked off a little melody I'd been playing on for a while. Hadn't made or mixed anything in a long time and just felt the urge to give that a shot, get myself back at it. Just little piece of mood music. Hope ya like it!
  5. thanks! and no he isn't, but he has sat in with us several times. he actually booked for us a month long residency at the venue in the video and sat in for all of the shows.
  6. well, we've finally got a professionally done concert video, check it out! It features Chris Pandolfi (Banjo player for the band The Infamous Stringdusters, protege of Bela Fleck) sitting in for most of our set on his electric guitar/banjo hybrid. Its not necessarily our best performance, but its our best looking!? This song Isis is one that I wrote, but here's the whole playlist just for goodness. [video:youtube]
  7. just got a soundboard of a recent show we played and I gotta say it came out pretty well aside from one or two horrible missed changes... but that'll happen. embarrassingly one happened during a song that I wrote and all my fault, but I was really sick (and I'm holding to that as my excuse )... anyways, check it out, I'm kinda proud of this set. particularly the first song actually, which is one written by our drummer and the first song I've ever played in 7/4. https://archive.org/details/genetics2014-07-02.sbd
  8. thanks guys! the host was not baked from what I could tell, just not necessarily the best person to have interviewing a prog/fusion band. She likes US, but I don't think she really gets the music we make... I mean, when you're interviewing a band and talking about how great their music is to have in the background and to have a conversation over... thats kinda not what you wanna hear, yaknow? She'd met us once and liked us, and I think we all just sorta threw her off her game right off the bat with the interview, she didn't really get the chance to get a feel for what we were like much before we were on air. Honestly, the whole interview is just hilarious for me to listen to.
  9. https://soundcloud.com/genetics-gr/genetics-livelunch-on-krfc-889-7114 We did a live radio set/interview today, giver her a listen! You can see how eccentric bands end up when they've been living together for two years, we all sound like weirdos.
  10. Well, I lived a dream this past weekend, played a packed show at our most classic hometown venue opening for the largest jamband from the city (The Intersection in Grand Rapids MI with UV Hippo) one night, and then the very next made it to Denver to Open for George Clinton and P-Funk... it was scary as hell, our plane got delayed in Chicago due to tornadoes, I thought we weren't gonna make it back to the biggest show of my life... but the weather cleared and we did, heavens be praised. Excitingly enough, we got a good recording of that show, and I'm for once pretty proud of the product we ended up with... Its not perfect, but its got enough cool moments too outweigh it for me... Give it a listen! https://archive.org/details/genetics2013-11-17.mc803.kindrec
  11. It just sort fits right into that nice little warm part of your soul and makes it a little bit bigger for a while, yaknow? Any idea where I could find some transcriptions/sheet music? I feel like a lot of what he does is within my grasp technically (with a heck of a lot of work to get it down, of course), and a lot of what he's doing is just over my head harmonically, its really tough to pick out the exact chords for me... Its just such beautiful stuff that I want to know how to do it though. Anyways, here's some tunes to make your day a little better. [video:youtube] [video:youtube] [video:youtube]
  12. I take offense to this, you old geezers just don't know the good stuff.
  13. http://archive.org/details/genetics2013-05-11.mtx.kindrec Here's a new live recording of my band. This set was really special for us, we had a few rotating hand percussionists sitting in with us throughout the night, one of them being Chuck Morris of the band Lotus, who I've been a big fan of since high school. In addition, part of it was a tribute set to the band Oysterhead, which is a trio consisting of Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland. Since we're playing it as a six piece, its really quite a fun adaptation, although personally I didn't enjoy half of the songs really at all... Its kind of a guitar album, for some reason I just couldn't get keys to feel right on parts of it. (I'm particularly proud of my Rhodes solo in the last song, to be completely honest)
  14. Thanks for the kind words folks, I'm glad we've gotten the reception we have, we worked really hard on that. We recorded it all in our basement, our drummer did all of the recording and mixing. Its the first of 4 songs we're gonna be puttin out in the next few weeks. Also, I'm not in GR anymore (forgot to change my location on my profile), but we'll be back for a few shows this summer.
  15. I've got a Rhodes Mark II Suitcase, and we used a combined signal of micing the cab and the direct out, a Nord Electro 2 and a Microkorg on this track.
  16. Check it out, my band's first 'studio' release in over a year. We recorded it in our basement and it was mixed by our drummer. Lemme know what you think, I'm pretty proud of it. https://soundcloud.com/genetics-gr/genetics-the-scoundrel
  17. A Dead Flowers cover me and a few friends did just for fun when we were rehearsing in a church, the sound is kinda cool, just from an iPhone microphone, very very spacious.
  18. We played a local morning show today to promote Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts (amazing btw if you've never been, huge family friendly free festival, largest volunteer festival in the country I think), where we are playing the Opening Ceremonies. Our performance is not at all perfect, but it was fun, and I think its good enough to please the stay at home moms demographic, who will be mostly who saw this. http://www.wzzm13.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=1656634535001&odyssey=mod
  19. Oh my goodness... wow. seriously. geeze. ::gawks more:: You have a beautiful organ sir, if you don't mind me saying.
  20. After owning my 'new' synth for months, I've finally gotten around to recording it a little. This track is just Korg Delta and a Bass Tube Screamer, with a little delay and reverb and whatnot after. Its not great, but I kinda like it. http://soundcloud.com/scottasin/praeiriey
  21. Its a Nord Electro 2 being controlled by a Casio Privia PX-330 for the piano and electric piano sounds. For the piano, I have the Stereo C7 Patch (run in stereo), with some eq'ing and whatnot. The Rhodes is the Rhodes MKI sample IIRC. The monitors are Kustom something oranothers (the little black ones in the video)... I got them from a buddy for 20 bucks, and although they sound alright, theres not much life left in them at all. The amplifier I'm using is a Yamaha Stagepas PA Amplifier, which is also on its last legs. My stuff sounds OK, but I'm pushing the reds pretty much all the time to be heard, so I don't see much life left in my speaker or amplifier at all.
  22. Wow, great stuff all around guys, I really dig what you guys are doing thats electronically inspired, something I could definitely do some looking into for fun and to broaden my repetoire a bit. Here's a few videos of a cover band I was in this summer just for fun, nothing spectacular, but i get to take some solos, so I like it at least. [video:youtube] [video:youtube] [video:youtube]
  23. A couple songs from my folk band. One of our first shows, had a ton of fun. [video:youtube]GBOkg6Xml3M
  24. wow, no posts since april. either way, check out my band playing Exploration by The Karminsky experience.
