It appears da  Bears are going to keep HC Matt Eberflus.

OC Eric Bieniemy would be a great fit with da Bears and QB Justin Fields if the Commanders cannot keep him around or if he doesn't lane a HC gig elsewhere.

The Falcons really should consider OC Bieniemy for their HC opening. I doubt that he's any more gruff than the last guy.😁

Both da Bears and Falcons have QBs in need of solid guidance and better offensive production.

Case in point...Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa improved once they hired HC/OC Mike McDaniel.😎

I agree. And I keep hearing that the Bears may retain Eberflus. But if Harbaugh is available and wants to coach for the Bears, what should the organization do?

You're right, Ken. It's been a long period of more downs than ups for Bears fans. The closest fan experience I have is as a Suns fan, but it's not a perfect fit because the Suns have had more good years than bad yet the Suns have never won it all; so it's not quite the same in either respect, but I certainly can understand longterm frustration.

I agree that Harbaugh would be a great fit, especially considering his years in Chicago as the Bears' starting quarterback. The thought of him coaching the Bears makes me fear for the Packers.

    Best,

    Geoff

As a coach, Harbaugh has won wherever he goes. He's not without his controversy, of course. And I understand that Warren and Harbaugh don't exactly see eye to eye on things, so I don't know how much that would impact the Bears' decision in hiring him should it come to that. But certainly as a fan looking in from the outside, I would hire Harbaugh in a second if I were the Bears.

The Bears have generally sucked since Lovie Smith was shown the door after a winning season except for the first year in which Matt Nagy was coach.

So as an organization, you have to ask: who do you trust to take you to the Super Bowl? Eberflus? Or Harbaugh? Ask that question, and to me, the answer is very clear.

I managed to find a Chicago area ESPN with an Internet stream to listen to the game on. Man, they sounded depressed! My sympathies to Ken and other Bears fans. That said, they have the top pick for the second year in a row, and the last part of their season ended with more wins than losses; so things are looking up.

Bears fans are constantly let down, that's the deal. It's something promising, yet inconsistent. "Next year will be better." The next year is inconsistent again. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. It's little wonder they sound depressed. We saw the potential from the 2022 season, and were a bit more excited, so I suppose 2023 is a larger letdown than normal despite more than doubling the win total from the 2022 season. Add to that the three games with 4th quarter meltdowns, and it's another aggravating year.

I will say this. The Bears are #1 in finding creative ways to lose a game.

Getsy is not a good offensive coordinator. If I were Warren/Poles, I would show him the door. I know there's Bears analysts saying that if you keep Fields, you will introduce him to a third offensive system. That's true. But Getsy, at this stage of his OC career, is not going to get you to the Super Bowl. I'm not sure that he gets you to any meaningful playoff victories. He does not know how to adjust when the opposing team invariably makes changes and shifts to their game plan. He runs three screen identical screen plays in a row. He tried to make Fields a pocket passer. Calls running plays on third and long. Plays super conservative when having the lead. Not taking advantage of the QB's mobility and doing more roll-outs and moving the pocket, especially when it's clear that the front line is not stopping the pass rush. I could go on and on, but he's not a great OC, and I don't know of a single person who thinks he is.

If I were Warren/Poles, I would go after Harbaugh or someone else who is really gifted.

Say what you will about Fields. He has improved. He is arguably the most explosive NFL QB. But he's inconsistent, and he's had the detriment of some inferior coaching.

Anyway, it's wearisome being a Bears fan because this is what happens year after year. This off-season and next year will be interesting regardless, and hopefully it won't be wearisome again.

    Thank you!

It's nice to see a quote from Annie Leibovitz included. She is more of a "people" photographer (or at least used to be" and that's what I am too.

The physical world around us is a huge aspect for photography and I enjoy viewing those images.

A human is a malleable entity that can be spoken to, requests can be made and initiated.

While this may add some complexity to creating images, it also allows control over variations.

One model can be an essential part of creating many images in an hour. A hill will not move, no matter what you say to it.

Leibovitz is very talented. She sometimes goes out of her way to make her subjects uncomfortable. Method to her madness. Very talented photographer.

So here's my solution, which I've been doing for about the past two years. I record entire performances, no more than three or four. I'll pick the best one and consider that the performance. Then, if a chorus, bridge, or verse is stronger in one of the other comps, I'll use that but the performance for that section stays as intact as possible.

*Studies of what's called mental practice support the idea that this is possible.

With few exceptions, that's the way I've always done it.

Agreed, but I'd like to see it taken one step further, along the following lines.

My ancient book on Cubase SX came with a CD-ROM where people had the opportunity to remix a song by George Toledo. Bunny Knudsen organized the event, and Lee Flier contributed additional drum tracks to the project. BUT what made it fascinating was that people weren't limited to mixing just the tracks that were provided. They could interpret, remix, add parts, whatever they wanted to do. The amount of creativity on display was staggering.

I think it would be ultra-cool if Peter Gabriel let his tracks out into the world with the same "do whatever the hell you want" attitude, and make it more of a music project than a mixing project.

    That would be fascinating.

The closest he's come to this is this remix competition many years ago: https://musicthing.blogspot.com/2006/06/peter-gabriel-remix-competition-win.html

One other thing that really struck me was the enduring quality of his voice -- for a guy who's 73, he sounds fantastic (assuming the vocals were recorded recently).

He sounded fantastic in person during the concert that I saw in Los Angeles recently.

  8. I'm not surprised that this photo is complete BS. I think I saw this making the rounds a while back.

This sort of thing is only going to get worse as AI-generated images become more photorealistic. It's already surprising how many people are easily fooled by even the most ridiculous images, and this technology is only getting started.

  9. I've always gone easy on compression. I don't use it to excess.

In the analog days and when I had a board, I recorded vocals with a finger on the fader. I raised it and lowered it slightly. To do this, you better know the song, though.

Now, I record digitally. I use compression to "shave off" some of the transients, but otherwise have it so it's not very heavy-handed. I use automation or clip gain for a lot of stuff instead of compression. So I still go easy on compression.

Is it more work? Sure. Does it sounds better? I think so.

P.S. I am fully aware that if I had an extremely high-end hardware compressor, I may be singing a different tune. However, I do not, and neither do most people.

Even though most of my Apple products have held up very well I didn't put them on my good list because my first MacBookPro suffered from the expanding battery issue that hit that generation. It killed the touch pad and I had to send it off to get the battery replaced. I still consider myself lucky. If I had bought it a few months earlier I would have been in the batch with batteries that would burst into flames. I still have that old 17" MacBookPro, and the MacBookPro I bought 5 years later, and the next MacBookPro purchased 5 years later, and now a M1 MacBookPro that I bough 6 years later.

I didn't put my MacBook Pros on the "good" list for that very reason. I have had a couple of those (2011 and 2012), and both have completely dead batteries. Thankfully, we did not experience anything that was much worse than that. Bursting into flames is not a feature I want in a laptop.

All my other Apple products have been more than solid.
