  1. Niners fire DC Steve Wilks. Wonder if it was the Lions playoff game that got Shanahan thinking about firing him. Or was this a frustration firing after losing the Superbowl in OT? Shanahan doesn't strike me as a the type to fire somebody in the heat of the moment. Maybe he wanted the D to stay in the style that DeMeco Ryans ran but Wilks got too far away from it. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39525673/49ers-fire-d-coordinator-steve-wilks-one-season Travis Kelce does a mea culpa after being called out by big bro, although I think he already made a public statement of apology at some point in time between the Superbowl and their podcast. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39524733/chiefs-travis-kelce-bumping-yelling-andy-reid-unacceptable
  2. The Prophet 5 desktop satisfied my nostalgia driven hunger for an analog polysynth, and the Matriarch holds an interesting spot as a paraphonic beast. So while I am unlikely to be in the market for any of the new analog polysynths I wish the best for the remaining Moog Music staffers in Asheville and root for the success of Moog Mirror for their sakes.
  3. If only Andy Reid's clock management was better, the Chief would have won the Su... oh wait 🤣 https://www.si.com/nfl/2024/02/12/andy-reid-time-management-during-super-bowl-frustrated-nfl-fans?fbclid=IwAR0W6RXu9afIf0sZ8sjJ1--tC7rkPvm6zMMq-jT8RebHaN3TWq5G501GzKs
  4. CDM has more photos: https://cdm.link/2024/02/moog-super-bowl/
  5. In other Superbowl news, a new Moog synth quietly made its debut https://synthanatomy.com/2024/02/moog-secretly-premiered-a-new-hardware-synthesizer-at-the-2024-super-bowl.html
  6. He may not have mentioned U2 by name but he did hypothesize that what all Superbowl-worthy acts have in common are decades of experience in the music business. U2 would certainly qualify as a decades-old entertainment act. He probably did not name them because he didn't want to take the time to list every single qualifying act. As he said in the video, the act must not only have decades of market presence but also have worldwide name recognition, which goes hand in hand with the decades' experience. So the brilliant but obscure "critics' favorite" type rock songwriter who has been toiling in the shadows for decades has no chance of landing a Superbowl gig.
  7. confession time: I missed the first half and half the 2nd half because a good buddy of mine wanted to see Stickmen play and I didn't consider the date of the Stickmen gig at all. So I missed the halftime show too, as finding Beato's vid reminded me. It's a monologue-only video btw
  8. A collection of short guitar lessons by Hristov Vitchev https://hristovitchev.gumroad.com/l/shortchordversationsbundle I heard about Hristov Vitchev from a more experienced guitarist years ago. I eventually forgot about him until I stumbled upon him again on Youtube.
  9. Case in point - Mean Joe Greene. I assumed like everybody else he was just a wild animal out to break QBs in half. But by various reports he was a true gentleman off the field.
  10. "Raging beast on the field, gentle teddy bear off the field" is a description that has been applied to many a great NFL player.
  11. Dave, you might this Larry Carlton collection. My understanding of harmony on the guitar got a boost from learning Larry's arrangements of Christmas tunes. I also got an idea for a song from the way he used harmony. At the same time Larry's versions of these tunes not that hard to learn - imo of course. I bet if you start now you'll be playing 2-3 of them by next Christmas. https://truefire.com/larry-carlton/335-christmas/335-christmas-introduction/v26767
  12. Cool. When I practice the solo fingerstyle tunes I pick one thing to clean up for that day. Most of my rough spots are in the transitions from one position to another. I got more serious about playing fingerstyle just a few years ago, but progressed enough that when I tried the Ortega 8-string nylon string in the store, the salesman asked me if I was a classical guitarist. I bought so many courses on TrueFure, then got the Pickup Music subscription, so i'm always learning something new on guitar. The free online classes hosted by Pickup Music provide more motivation than I expected. I underestimated how I'd feel seeing all these fellow learners online asking questions and what note. Classes are at least once a week, but they'll be hosting 5 next week.
  13. I have some songs that I practice - not for a band or any particular project - just for the pleasure of playing and listening. They are arranged for solo fingerstyle guitar. I'm more like Dave when it comes to keys. I need to be working on a cover or something like that.
  14. You can probably find out by trying the demo version of Modwave Native. It should allow you to try anything you want with the synth engine, within certain limits - no saving, 20 min. max run time. https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/modwave_native/
  15. Submarine Pickups started with the Submarine pickup, which picks up on 2 strings. The inventor wanted an add-on pickup that would only pick up the bottom 2 strings on his guitar, so that he could use an octave pedal to generate bass notes for only those 2 string. Thus he invented the Submarine to do that, and also designed it to be usable on the top side: https://www.submarinepickup.com/products/the-submarine Then he came up with the Sub Pro pickup.... the eventually realized why not create a hex pickup too. Craig has his own use cases that he posted about much earlier in this thread, but the Submarine guy's thought process seems to be evolving in a parallel direction, although unfortunately his demo only shows the "pan each string to its own side" idea.
  16. Says showdown, but it's really an instructional vid packed with great lessons on tips/tricks for your 2600M.
  17. Mini-review posted on another forum - not mine btw as I don't have one
  18. Yes, plugins are sold individually. Best deals are usually around Black Friday time.
  19. Discovered guitarist Niwel Tsumbu, who is apparently touring with Rhiannon Giddens.
  20. His mom is a former microprocessor designer, on the AMD Sledgehammer project (1st 64-bit processor)
  21. Meanwhile in LA, Jim Harbaugh has hired Mike Devlin away from the Ravens to coach OL, ex-Ravens OC Greg Roman for a yet to be specified "prominent" offensive role, and a TE coach away from the Giants who also has Ravens ties. No idea why Roman hasn't been officially named OC, as he served Harbaugh as OC with the Niners. Ravens fans weren't too thrilled with his system in Baltimore, but his run-heavy style fits Harbaugh's philosophy. I don't think Herbert would mind handing off more to RBs, in hopes of setting up play-action deep shots. I'm sure he's sick and tired of having to operate a short passing offense because his team couldn't run the ball. He reportedly tried to also hire his son Jay Harbaugh to coach special teams, but Jay took the Seattle ST job instead. So he's retaining Ryan Fickens from last year's staff. Fickens was Brandon Staley's best assistant hire, so no surprise Harbaugh decided to keep him.
  22. Sorry, I missed the mention of the Yamaha PSR-SX900, otherwise my response would have been the same as pjd's. That said I do love the Soft Drummer app (iPhone/iPad) for practicing on instruments other than my Yamaha PSR-SX600.
  23. New SubSix hex pickup coming from Submarine Pickups https://www.submarinepickup.com/products/sub-six
  24. If you have an iPad/iPhone, Lumbeat has an Afro Latin drummer app as well as apps for other drumming styles https://lumbeat.com/
