  1. Thanks for the report concerning the touchscreen. The Korg M3 touchscreen does not seem to be easily scratched either, but it has some known, oft-discussed issues, like the responsiveness declining with use, until it eventually doesn't respond at all to touch and/or the M3 screen calibration function no longer works. Since I never see any threads/posts complaining about the Montage touchscreen I guess the MODX one should be ok. I imagine touchscreen technology has grown leaps and bounds since M3 was launched in Jan 2007. I imagine it too, but it's better to get real-world reports. This thing may not be anywhere as costly as the new Moog but I still want to research it before dropping my money on it.

  3. If the answer is no, will you cancel your preorder? No.....but I am very curious about whether I could sell my Voyager and not miss it that much, as opposed to selling other gear. I would not do that without having had it in my hands. I will only cancel the preorder if the demos turn me off. Barring that it is at least worth the potential of losing the shipping costs to try it with the possibility of returning it. That's a reasonable question to ask. I have not seen any indication of the Voyager oscillator design being used in The One. At least not like Grandmother where Moog Music clearly stated where each component was derived (VCA from Moog 902 module, filter from Moog 904 module, etc.). The VCOs in the Voyager, the Sub Phatty/37, and Grandmother are all different from one another, from what I've heard. This may not even be a close comparison but if I had Mark's Memorymoog and his Voyager in my house, and I had to give one of them back, I'd probably give back the Voyager and be ok using Memorymoog do play leads, partly because, well the Memorymoog would let me play a wider variety of chords, and I'm not that picky about "authentic Model D tone". Ok, I admit the real reason is because of the cool custom LEDs that Mark installed .
  4. If the answer is no, will you cancel your preorder?
  5. Is the touch screen a glass one like on tablets, or a mushy plastic one like the one on the Korg M3 workstations? The 14lb weight of the MODX6 appeals to me too, as well as the 4-in, 10-out USB audio interface, USB MIDI, and IOS compatibility - will probably be the new main controller for my iPad. Oh and the FM-X appeals too.
  6. Yeah, quite a few competing synths look cheaper all of a sudden. On another forum, somebody was getting reamed for asking if One has MPE support (actually it does). Deckards Dream at $3000-ish with all the options (expansion module with analog FX, CV jacks, etc.) has 8-voice analog poly with MPE.
  7. Moog One features two kinds of analog filters a newly designed multimode State Variable filter for surgical precision and the legendary Moog Ladder filter with selectable 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-pole lowpass/highpass modes. Between them, the two filters can process sounds individually or together, in series or in parallel to deliver a colorful spectrum of vintage, contemporary, and futuristic filter sounds. Good heavens Sweetwater will start shipping this month! And I'm at the time of my life when I can actually afford it. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to resist... Yeah, I'm just saying nobody commented on the state-variable filter until hardware did... indirectly that is.
  8. I figured I wasn't the only one who noticed the state-variable filter.
  9. Short and sweet demo - kudos to you if you're on this forum. [video:youtube]
  10. Been doing a little bit of Googling for integrating a Seaboard to get around lack of aftertouch. I presume if this guy got his Seaboard working with his Montage, it should be possible on the MODX. https://www.yamahasynth.com/ask-a-question/mpe-specification-release-and-montage
  11. I'm also curious about the MODX touchscreen, though my concern is more over the durability. I'm a Korg M3 owner, and it touchscreen is known for being on the delicate side.
  12. Interesting that Organimation might actually sound better than the CX3 modeling engine. Can't wait to meet up w/ the local musos at Chucks to check out the MODX.
  13. I'd go with the MODx too, but I can see where someone could still choose the FA... sequencer, trigger pads, clonewheel engine, VA synth engine, assignable out I'm with you here. I do know several who would choose the FA series over the MODx for the sequencer and trigger pads - those kind of people are not going to care which keyboard has the most state of the art synthesis technology.
  14. Apparently, the official announcement from Yamaha is scheduled for noon EST. That is why Sweetwater took down that page. The specs posted there might not be totally accurate, though I'm sure they're a step closer to reality than typical GearSlutz stuff.
  15. This might be a better link - the other one points to some kind of guitar https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/yamaha-modx-launch/
  16. Another factory video, this time done in the popup factory, and recorded by "loopop". [video:youtube] If you don't have time to watch it now, I'm sure ElmerFudd will repost this video again in a couple of weeks.
  17. Fair enough, Mark. You do have a sweet little setup around that SEM. I was drawn in by the "starter package" concept - sequencer/arp, over 40 patch points, color coded "modules", keyboard, spring reverb, etc. Some Grandmother demos by an early adopter: https://soundcloud.com/artfluids/sets/moog-grandmother-demos
  18. This would have been my gateway into the Eurorack modular world. Those who bought it without previous modular experience will eventually find themselves buying external envelope, LFO, etc. modules to cross patch with their new Moog, thus slipping ever deeper into the modular money pit. I dodged a bullet there
  19. Moog wants you to buy another device to supply a 2nd envelope. Like, maybe, a Mother 32. Just like they left the DFAM limited in various ways - to encourage DFAM owners to buy something else to CV patch it with, like, a M32 or perhaps the Grandmother. Honestly though if I had your modular rig, I wouldn't even be looking at any of these Moogs - why would I if I had that modular?
  20. Yeah I checked on Guitar Center yesterday, only to learn that they're sold out. They do have other Moog products on sale though, as part of their up-to-20% off Moogfest promo. I don't consider this a Minimoog clone at all, btw. Yeah, they used the Minimoog oscillator design, but the rest of the synth is taken from the 900-series Moog modular line; and early reports say it sounds "angrier" than a Model D.
  21. I'd rather just get a Dreadbox Abyss for 4-voice poly analog, or a DSI Prophet 6 module for the 6-voice than a stack of Slim Phatty's but hey if you have the money, room, and determination... Back to topic... I was going to post a pic that an early customer posted upon reception of his Moog Grandma, but it's too big. The Moog jacket will be embroidered to order. Seems happy with the sound of the Grandma.
  22. And..... In case anybody hasn't already found it, the official product site with specs, manual, etc. etc. https://www.moogmusic.com/products/semi-modular/grandmother
  23. For the geeks in the house - Moog factory video: [video:youtube]
  24. That's $100 lower than what I initially read. So for a couple more hundred bucks over the Mother 32, you can have a grandma w/ 32-key keyboard, 1 more oscillator, spring reverb, etc.
