  1. I'm not sure who you gave $40 to, but I'm not aware of any tiered system of which you speak. I just checked the web site, and it clearly states: Furthermore: Of course we shall see what in fact the future holds...
  2. You're certainly most welcome to your opinion and I have no reason to try and convince you otherwise. But if you're basing it on MuseScore version 2 or prior, version 3 was a significant update that drastically improved the default layout. I just mention this for the benefit of the OP.
  3. Very satisfied MuseScore user here. It does everything I need, and, well, it's free. I use it mainly for two-staff piano, with an occasional third staff (usually organ or some other keyboard). Don't use it for bigger ensemble scores, but it seems capable in that area. If you have specific questions, please feel free.
  4. One of my all-time favorite keyboard solos is Craig Doerge in Jackson Browne's Load Out / Stay. The guy has a way of making keyboard sound like singing with his bending and phrasing. Here's a live version that shows the playing. First solo starts around 4:10, and another around 7:00. [video:youtube]
  5. In fairness, the isolated track is just that-- an isolated track. Useful, perhaps, for learning a part, but not necessarily to be used as a template for how you'd want a band to sound playing it (assuming you're attempting to be as faithful to the original as possible). If you're going to play the part that's been revealed in the isolated track, you might consider taking steps to make sure you're fairly far down in the mix during that stretch. Or at least work with your bandmates to make sure the keyboard part isn't stepping on other parts that people might be used to hearing at that point in the song.
  6. Ah, I read your earlier post too quickly and missed that these are color lasers. Don't have any experience with those. However, I've been a long-time Brother B&W laser user for work in an office environment. Probably purchased 8-10 of them over the last 5 years. My experience is the brand overall is fairly solid, but not ultra-reliable. But they're so inexpensive (again, in a business context) that I just treat them as commodities. If one breaks or stops working after 2 or 3 years I just replace it with another one. Also, I trust you're hip to the printer game-- the real cost is in the consumables, not the printer itself. So factor that in addition to the upfront cost of the printer. Not sure if that helps you, but there it is.
  7. Dan, your link isn't displaying properly for me. Do you have the model numbers?
  8. Thanks for mentioning this. I guess I should mention I'll be using two boards running through a small mixer into the speakers, so I should be able to bring levels up to an adequate level.
  9. Thanks all for the comments so far. I'm not overly concerned with reliability as I feel both EV and QSC are quality brands with reasonably good overall track records. Any quality issues I feel are going to be hit-and-miss with either brand. I'm still mainly interested in opinions on sound quality-- particularly on the elusive piano (which is of particular importance to me). I've been following the many past threads on each of these models, and I've read favorable comments on each when it comes to piano. Just getting down to decision time and looking for up-to-the-minute opinions to aid in deciding. Regarding weight... do owners of each find they can carry both units together with relative ease? I assume when using something like the Costco crate mentioned that must be the case (although I have to say that crate seems like it would be somewhat cumbersome)?
  10. I'm considering a new pair of monitors and these are both high up on my list. Anyone actually been able to compare them side by side, or, failing that, just have an opinion one way or the other? Especially interested in opinions on the dreaded piano through each. Primary use will be monitoring during live performance and rehearsal.
  11. I have no particular dog in this hunt... I was just struck by your choice of words above. Probably the same line of thinking the owner of the venue you're playing is using in paying you just $50 tomorrow.
  12. I had been taking piano lessons as a kid for a couple of years, and had gotten into some piano and keyboard-centric pop music of the time (Elton, Billy Joel, Supertramp, etc.) But the single event that motivated me to start taking piano much more seriously was being invited to a friend's birthday party where we were taken to see The Sting. There I first became exposed to Scott Joplin's music and was completely captivated-- and for the first time seriously self-motivated to learn music that was considerably beyond my ability.
  13. I don't know the first thing about drums, but I think I can safely say those are the coolest looking drums I've ever seen.
  14. I for one will be very interested in reading anything you might post on this...
  15. Can't the giant pics be fixed or removed? I really enjoy this thread, but it's unviewable until, I guess, it scrolls to a new page?
  16. Trying to figure how something like this could be a fault of the SS. Have you tested this with another amp/monitor? My first inclination would be to check the Mojo on something like this.
  17. It would be interesting to know exactly what the driving force was behind this "update to the 21st century". Was it initiated by Springsteen himself, the keyboard players, the techs, the equipment manufacturers, some other person or entity?
  18. I think it's just the [C-Ab] [Eb-Bb] [Ab-C] pattern played in consecutive octaves. (let me know if you don't know what I mean)
  19. I have sent email to Samson tech support requesting a block diagram... will let everyone know when they respond.
  20. Can any users of this mixer (SpaceNorman?) please confirm for me that the MON output on the rear is a stereo output? If yes, can this output be routed to two separate powered speakers by use of a Y cable or some other means?
