  1. If you live close enough to Chicago where you're considered in the Bears market area, and live close enough to a local TV station, you could consider an antenna. Since the conversion to digital over-the-air broadcast, the picture quality is perfect (better than cable even because it's not compressed). I installed one 10 years or so ago and get all my local TV (including Bears games) that way. And of course, it's free (besides the initial outlay for the antenna of course).
  2. I could listen to Fagen and Becker all day... [Fagan] "And there ya go... in other words {shrug}" [Becker] "Speaks for itself, really..."
  3. Protection from Behringer using it for a clone...
  4. As an avid follower of the "Dig My Rig" thread, I have to say I can't think of anything that makes a rig stand out more than those chrome Gibralter stands do. One of these days...
  5. Ludovico Einaudi seems to be enjoying a little surge in popularity (possibly due to his music being used in the film Nomadland). I think this one is my favorite to play:
  6. Hey JamPro, I'm not sure the instructions will be the same on all WIndows systems. But all I do is set the Audio Host (this is the left-most pull-down under the transport controls) to Windows WASAPI. Then on my system I have the Recording Device pull-down (just to the right) set to Speakers (loopback). Then just click Record and start playback of the video in YouTube. You should see the audio coming into Audacity. Once you have the audio recorded, click File > Export and select what format you want to save. That should be all there is to it. Let us know if you're still stuck...
  7. Yup, that's how they hooked me. I hate almost everything about my Mac Mini (I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Windows guy)... but I love Mainstage so I put up with it.
  8. I'm with ya on this... my Mac Mini is 2012. I forget the processor speed, but it's an i7 and I did upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. Heck, I don't even have an SSD. Runs great for everything music (Logic, Pianoteq, all other VST's I've wanted with no problems). If I upgraded to an SSD I bet it would really fly. The M1 is enticing and all that, but then I stop and think what is it really going to get me? One day I guess...
  9. Sorry, didn't mean for that to sound confrontational... anything but. Just meant that Intel is a chip company, with a very well-funded R & D department with highly qualified engineers. Even if the M1 might give Apple a current leg up in the computer processor arena (which is just one of many), I'm pretty certain Intel has lots of stuff in the pipeline and will continue to compete.
  10. Eh... my son turned me on to them around a year or so ago. Thought they were somewhat interesting. Then I went to Summer Camp music fest and saw them on the schedule so I checked 'em out. I think Clyde is the goods and the band was tight, but their show was waaay too much of the Broadway musical thing drawback mentioned. But I'm probably not their target demographic...
  11. I would find it helpful to know what your amplification situation is. Are you going through a FOH PA, or using your own? Are you running stereo or mono? I would recommend Pianoteq. Last I remember, you get to choose 3 piano models with your purchase. So you can download the demo and play around with the sounds to see what works best for your situation. Within each model, there's dozens of presets that will usually get you in the ballpark. If you get the Standard or Pro version (I have the former) you also get the ability to micro-adjust things that can affect "bite", like reverb, hammer hardness, string length, mic placement, EQ, etc. But again, download the demo and see for yourself (the demo comes with all the piano models so you can try them all out).
  12. Unfortunately those Audezes are open back or for sure they would have been in the running.
  13. Just a quick follow up to say I ended up getting the Sony MDR-7506, and so far have been very happy with them. I just hope this pair lasts a little longer than the other Sony's I've had. Thanks to timwat and any others I may have missed in this thread who suggested them.
  14. It doesn't appear that the sound leakage is anything too significant. And I agree with the points made that the thunking of the keys is likely to be more audible and disturbing to someone else in the room. I think I might investigate the open-back alternatives a bit further.
  15. I don't think I've ever owned or used open back phones. I wouldn't be using them for tracking, so some sound leakage would not be an issue. But can anyone tell me just how loud the leakage is? Say for example if my better half was trying to work in the same room while I was playing, would the sound leakage be enough to disturb her? I realize there's some subjectivity to that question, but any opinions welcome.
  16. Thanks all. Kuru, in spite of the fact I've owned 2 sets of the Sonys, I can't say as I've been completely happy with them. The first pair kind of fell apart quality-wise, and now the second pair as I mentioned has developed a buzzing sound. Comfort has also been an issue with the Sonys-- I sometimes wear them for hours at a time, and I've found the Sonys have sometimes gotten a little hot. Another unanticipated issue has arisen-- impedance. I'm finding a pretty wide range (from like 32 ohms up to 250 ohms). I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 (3rd gen) interface... will this interface drive any of these? A buddy of mine turned me on to the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro... a little more expensive than my stated price range, but any opinions on them?
  17. Ever since I can remember I've used Sony MDR-V600's (currently on my second pair) and have basically been satisfied with them. My current pair has developed a buzzing sound in them, so assuming this is something non-repairable (is anything repairable these days?) I'm looking for a new pair of cans. I'm mostly just using them for evening playing when I don't want to disturb others in the house-- not for professional mixing or anything. So I'd like something decent quality, but don't want, or need, to spend a fortune. Don't even remember what I paid for the MDR's... maybe around $100? Something in that price range seems about right. Anyone got any suggestions?
  18. That is what I call "maximizing one's available space". Well done.
  19. I have no idea what it is. But I do know that if I were that cat, I sure as hell wouldn't have it slanted down like he does so as to advertise to the entire crowd that, yes, any one of you could be up here doing what I'm doing.
  20. I assume we're excluding that new John Mayer song that was posted here recently? Shout out to Synthaholic... when I first saw his nomination (Scritti Politti Perfect Way for those who missed it), from memory I scoffed and dismissed it as 80's fluff. Then I went and listened to it again in the context of this thread, and darned if it isn't a lot more complex than I remember. Beatles Here Comes the Sun There's gotta be some Rush tunes that qualify, but I'm not enough of a Rush-head to be able to name any specific tune(s) off the top of my head. Beato himself had an earlier video (if I recall from memory) where he went in depth into the complex (or at least unusual) chord progression in Sting's Fortress Around Your Heart. Steely Dan has been mentioned multiple times-- pretty much their whole discography is a gold mine for this thread.
