  1. How do the Nord acoustic piano samples sound through the SSv3? Better or worse than through your QSCs? I tried a SS several years ago but returned it. I love the concept and the 360 degree sound was great but the audio fidelity wasn't even close to meeting my needs. Seems the new version has improved fidelity. There are comments on the Nords quality previous in this thread I think Jazzmammal tested his out. I found, for me, that the FIRST board you play thru the SS can temper your opinion. I am using a Kronos now and had that been the first board thru my SS I would have sent the SS back, only because the Kronos patches need EQ and balancing. The Rhodes and Wurli patches need some LF content EQ ing and roll off because the SS cab was rattling bad from certain notes. Luckily, I had played my other boards thru my SS without the rattle, but my first impression was that something broke in the SS or there was a wire loom rubbing against the speaker cone. A thought process prevailed, and I edited the offending patches and adjusted the gains and removed the offending frequencies without destroying the tone . Someone in a previous comment lamented about possibly having to constantly adjust the SS and or keyboard for tonal nirvana, but its a one time process. I am not saying you wont find a stage or space that poses an issue, but if your board has an overall EQ that should resolve those kinds of issues. I rarely touch the MF and HF on the SS, but might touch up the width depending upon where my SS is sitting in regards to walls around me.
  2. yes, what you must keep in consideration is the SS envelopes you and the stage in sound, it is not a single point source ,(unless you dial the width control to 0)so 180 watts among a 3 way system and 100 to the MS will provide a sound comes from everywhere environment . My drummer keeps telling me to turn mine down, I love it !
  3. when you guys lay the SS on its side arent you effectively covering up the open back of the side speaker thus changing the modeling of the enclosure and in effect the rear wave of said speaker(which contributes to the spatial environment)
  4. I have developed a cabinet rattle in my SS with a new board I purchased, A Kronos x 73, with a few patches. A Wurli and a B3 on a C3 and D3 are rattling my SS, don't know if its the LF driver or cab resonance , I am trying eq settings and other things hoping its just the patch settings.I am making sure the SM10 is not redlining, and am using the balanced inputs on a channel with the +4 switch engaged, per the Kronos specs. I didn't have this issue with any other board. I can feel air coming out of the Sub woofer jack(!!) on those notes so I know I am moving that poor LF cone. If I turn the volume down on the Kronos on those notes the rattle subsides, but then the overall volume is a little to low, I am really thinking I need to go thru the settings and find some tone or eq settings and dial them in .
  5. That is correct DanL, a mono signal will be heard in the front speaker only. Aspen, just to clarify my addled brain, I have a stereo mixer that I send LR out to the SS if I . plug only a single input into either input of the mixer and pan it 12 oclock the signal will only emit from the from speaker? What if I pan either hard L or R, same scenario?
  6. So its going thru you mixer which is panned straight "up' then to the SS? I wonder if there is some cancellation going on with the mono signal thru the SS matrix decoder.
  7. I suppose every venue is different depending upon how tight the members are crowded together and the stage. My ss sits atop a TC electronics bass amp and is to the rear and side of me. I hear it perfectly and the other band ,members dont complain. I did try to feed my vocal monitor feed to the SS also, had no feedback issues but the mix just got lost, probably due to the spatial processing of the mono vocal signal.I purchased a little 75 watt Powerweks monitor for my vocals. I also was happy to see the comments about the MF and HF controls and their subtle effect on the sound, I thought my HF hearing was gone.
  8. you did the special 36 month financing from sweetwater? They should not have charged you for the SS until it ships.. call your sales engineer
  9. Aspen explained the issues with the delays some pages back. Please try to remember he is literally a ONE man operation. He did not expect the surge and popularity of the SS so fast, coupled with his economics situation. I believe he is trying to ramp up production overseas. AnotherScott has his for sale in the classifieds for those who cannot wait.
  10. I am using a TC Electronics BG112 bass amp for the sub with no crossover, the inherent qualities of the bass amp suffice and really do not smear or interfere with the SS coverage and frequencies.
  11. You know, Tom, I love my SS V3 also, better than my Traynors, Rolands,QSCs, EVs, BUT not everybody loves Chocolate Pudding, just saying.
  12. The Suitcase version of the Rhodes had a stereo amp that provided the moving tremolo/pan that everyone knows so well. I have one in my rehearsal room, and there are TWO amps and speakers in the speaker cab. and its in STEREO with the Vibrato. Although old 16251 is PARTIALLY correct The Suitcase Vibrato was the original Rhodes effect, built into all versions of the Suitcase piano (as well as Stage models with the Super Satellite & Janus I systems). The idea behind the Vibrato was to simulate a rotating speaker, although the actual sound was quite different. The first version of the Vibrato was in mono, a tremolo effect that varied the amplitude of the piano's output in a square-wave pattern. When the Suitcase amps went stereo in 1969, this pattern was translated into a panning effect. Front-panel controls were provided for Speed and Intensity.
  13. I should clarify LF as far a subwoofer territory. pedal tones, Moog Taurus synth tones, etc, you might rattle the SS woofer. The woofer in the SS has remarkable reproduction for its size. A Leslie has a 15 inch woofer, so there is no comparison in size,so thus the pedals come out nicely from a rotary cabinet. but the Leslie's power amp is 35 watts vv the 280 from the SS. I say just try it and see for your likes and needs, IOW, a sub is NOT a requirement for the SS to sound killer. Honestly, I use the bass amp to set the SS up to a convenient height for sound coverage.
  14. No the SS does not have a pole mount, You could think about fashioning some hard foam wedges to sit atop the bottom speaker, BUT the SS is 39 lbs and if the bottom speaker vibrates from bass frequencies it could shake the SS off. I don't think you really need a full range speaker for the bottom, thus the discussion about subs and LF for the bottom. It has plenty of HF content ans the spatial projection throws the sound around. Where it "lacks", and I really hate to use that term, is "bottom LF content",IF your kicking LH bass or have a lot of boom on the bottom, but you have to use it sparingly, I had to dial my bass amp (used as the sub ) way down because the acoustic piano LH keys were thumping from the LF content.
  15. Any mode. There is a global assignment in the system where you check the output assignment for each "part".(im not in front of the FA so I am sorry if my nomenclature is incorrect. In my rig, I have a split where the TX is in the lower set and piano in the upper, globally lower is set to sub only , and plugs into the vent. Another patch is a layer, where strings are lower and piano upper, globally the strings are going thru the sub out,so I have to bypass the vent. I wish the assignments were studio set specific instead of global, maybe a future update. Yes the Vent really helps the TW sound on the FA06 and my Jupiter. The only internal rotary sim I think sounds good is the SK2.Otherwise the Roland rotary is only a step above Yamahas "rotary" I am running into the SpaceStation, so that helps with the moving air a lot(the vent out is running stereo.
  16. I tried my 06 wish my original vent and AFA rotary it beats the built in fx(even the double rotary) hands down. Its a neat thing you can assign a tone to the sub out, I just have to housekeep and make sure the tw organ is always lower tone. Of course when I have a layer I have to bypass the vent. I also have an Ocean Beach DB1 and that makes for handy drawbar manipulation in real time. I miss C/V it really needs that FX. I dont use "deep purple" type organ but I think the OD on the Vent would give you that grunge
  17. I agree! (To the naysayers who know my feelings. I have every right to bring up this issue when the opportunity presents itself.) Yes you do have the right, but is this necessarily the thread to do it in? :idk This thread has 24 pages, please make sure to call out all the other people who got off topic here. BTW, I only added a thumbs up to another wise man's post. Some people jumps off a bridge and your going to follow suit? Wasn't "calling you out" and don't want to argue with you,but to use "every opportunity", as you stated, to present your disdain for Nord could well be served in another thread. There is a difference in some of the OT posts, as you put it and using this thread to bash a product.

  19. Aspen, I for one am happy you are concentrating one ONE product, and doing it right. I already have a small rack bag that houses my Samson SM10 so one set of inputs is no issue for my two boards. Also since I found the TC Electronics Bass amp, it is lightweight, and sits the SS at just the right height. But not everybody likes corn beef, so to each his own, and I wish them good luck in finding their reproduction gear that suits their wishes. My ears smile every-time I use my SS.
  20. no it doesn't, my scale said 39 must be the speakers cause the amps are digital
  21. Buried in these 23 pages of posts are comments on the reproduction of the digital acoustic piano, and comparisons with earlier versions,
  22. I posted that exact scenario (~100 people) but this thread is moving fast. I think it's about 10 pages back. Bottom line, loud 5 piece blues band and a girl singer. Only the vocals and sax in the PA. Loud drums and loud bass. I was plenty loud enough and frankly it surprised me. I had my ELX112P in the car and didn't need it. But to A.C's point I wasn't doing heavy minimoog synthy bass lines or other strong stuff like that, it was the usual SK1 organ and AP/EP/Clav. Bob I was setting some patches at a club recently before the gig started and the guitarist, who was sitting out in the audience came up to me and said "your too loud in the PA, turn down!!" The thing is,the pa was OFF at that point, LOL.It was a little bar, though, a50-75 patron size.
  23. I find my SS works fine in the <75 to 150 club, I am going thru the PA but the band hears me fine.
