  1. Now, what’s missing is someone making a new video about that video about Beato’s interview. @MathOfInsects?
  2. How many 😛 emoticons would’ve be needed to make my intent clearer? 🤦🏻‍♂️
  3. Thanks, just found it. Seems like he's talking about a class. I don't see the big deal about certain students being late but I haven't studied music, not sure what the requirements for that are. I studied physics and it was not mandatory to show up for lectures or practice (besides specific mandatory lab practice), only the final examination mattered. I basically agree about the importance of being right on time for anything. On the other hand, he gives some selective examples of early morning appointments for a musician but he fails to mention that as a jazz musician playing at night clubs, it's probably equally as important to be a night owl and play after midnight. You can't expect someone to play up until 3 AM in a downtown club, then commute to home and get up at 6 AM, so that he's available for whatever early morning appointment there is for a jazz musician and I'm not a jazz musician, so I'm not familiar with their typical early morning schedule.
  4. Are Queen considered a rock band? Because I find Freddie Mercury piano playing very impressive (despite being deceptively simple at times). I’ve seen him play the piano live on a medley of famous Queen songs and it was amazing that he could play all of it so effortlessly.
  5. Was that post about one-on-one lessons? Or is it the entire class being late? I haven’t read the original post, I don’t use Facebook.
  6. I’ve always been late for everything. I’m not proud about that and I’ve tried changing it very hard but it just doesn’t work. I always try to be right on time but it never happens. And if I see I have plenty of time ahead to be early, then somehow I fill that time with other things and ultimately I’m late again. I’ve read an analysis that said people like me are usually seeing being early as something that’s inefficient and so they try to be exact but in real life you can’t be right on time and so you’re late. Again, not attempting to make an excuse…
  7. I don’t know who Liberace is, maybe he’s been popular in the US only but that autograph is awesome, what a beautiful writing and that grand piano drawing! ❤️
  8. Who’s the GOAT progressive metal mandolin player from the silent generation?
  9. Yeah, I should’ve clarified that I meant the raw type of earlier funk which is all about some cool groove and often just one chord, or maybe two or three, throughout the entire track. As you have noticed we have in common the love for more varied/interesting/advanced harmonic progressions, so indeed I really dig funk-inspired genres that can broadly be described as funky jazz (or jazzy funk, for that matter) and anything in between and around, including acid jazz (Jamiroquai, Incognito, etc.). That linked Chaka Khan song is lovely, far from boring, thank you for the link.
  10. Blame it on a multitude of factors such as me being a geek/nerd, coming from (and still preferring) classical music concerts, Christian upbringing with a strict no-pleasures dogma but you won’t see me dancing even at the funkiest Funk 😀 I hate dancing and find it embarrassing 🤣 But I understand people who dance on Funk, it really makes you wanna move. I really love it how these grooves can have such an effect. All that being said, after three funk tracks I get bored and need different music.
  11. We all know the drill: practice, then practice and finally practice 😀 A music related forum can only be useful for helping each other about how to mute that frickin MIDI zone and the likes, but that’s boring to death 😀
  12. Apart from that YouTube title being a clickbait, which we already discussed, I find it pretty amusing to discuss who’s the greatest in this or that because apparently it’s for fun and because a forum is for chats but music is not chat, so what can you eventually discuss about music if not some ridiculous topics such as who’s the greatest jazz pianist 😀 Just don’t take it too literally. Most people would simply share who their favorite pianists are.
  13. That’s funny, I was gonna mention him in my previous post but I already listed too many others. I discovered him one night on the national radio in 1995 when they played his live duet with Stan Getz “People Time”. I recorded on cassette four of the tracks and I completely wore it down from repeated listening to them 20 times a day. Especially this one: I found the complete album a few years later because those were the poorest years in Bulgaria and there was an obscure record store in Sofia (and I am not originally from Sofia and was still not living there at the time and traveled to it as a high school student with a 6-hour train specially to visit the store) where they would illegally copy albums from CD-s to cassette tape to poor souls like me… Those were poor years again, I’m not defending piracy 😕 On a few consecutive visits I asked for most of Kenny Barron own albums and I remember the store owner asked me: “how do you know about Kenny Barron?! He’s virtually unknown and it’s only the Jazz department students of the National Music Academy that know him and ask me for his records, they hold him in high regard and study his playing”. So, yeah, fond memories of Kenny Barron. Haven’t listened to him in ages. Have to check what he has released recently.
  14. I'm still not sure what "greatest jazz pianist of my generation" means: - The greatest jazz pianist that is the same generation as me - The greatest jazz pianist according to people from my generation Both are still too vague 😀 I'm an X-er (born in 1979) and if I have to name the greatest jazz pianist X-ers, well, Brad Mehldau of course 😀 I will also add Esbjörn Svensson but I'm not sure he's very well known over the pond. May he rest in peace, his loss was a huge shock for me in 2008. Also, he was born in 1964 and that's considered to be Boomer too. And I don't know what the jazz piano aficionados of my generation love but to me it's Chick and Herbie, followed closely by Bill Evans. Not a huge fan of Jarrett though (although he has some brilliant albums too). P.S. Ohh, how could I forget Lyle Mays! I actually love him even more than Chick and Herbie 😀 Or depends on the mood. Never mind...
  15. Maybe we should accept that music can’t be a job anymore. I alluded to that with the painter analogy in my previous post. In a world where many people can draw in various levels, from amateurish to spectacular, but only a very few highly commercialized artists can make real money, it’s only natural that visual arts are mostly a hobby. Same with music. I don’t think there’s a single reason, let alone anyone or anything to blame.
  16. How many painters are rich nowadays? Why should music be different?
  17. I seem a bit confused (but I don’t know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs… 😀). So, is the Zenology Pro (or no Pro) having all the patches from the XV-5080? I read some confusing information and I really don’t understand Roland logic. To me it seems I can just purchase the Zenology Pro with a lifetime license for $229 without even subscribing (or starting a trial). But I’m not sure what exactly it includes and whether I may have to also purchase some other packs on top of the rather steep $229 price for what is basically a rompler synth 🧐 I’m wondering if it will be cheaper if I start the trial and purchase it from there (but I don’t know if it will be cheaper and they say some downloads are disabled during trial). Also, I understand there’s regular Zenology (not Pro but also not Lite) with patches only and no deep editing. But I can’t find it in the cloud manager. I’ve never seen such a convoluted business…
  18. Respectfully, I don’t think Dave needed new workouts, challenges, exercise and chores. I rather got it he’s kinda looking for refreshing and relaxed new music experiences. He can clarify, I guess 🙂
  19. There’s still a lot of repertoire that’s relatively easy to read and play while still giving you room to try to make it “sing” which is just another aspect of feel and creativity. Things like certain Bach pieces, parts of Mozart and Beethoven sonatas. Chopin’s Mazurkas, misc works from Schubert, Schumann, Grieg, Debussy. Of course, if you’re interested in classical music at all 🙂
  20. I’d suggest learning classical piano pieces. Pick a composer or genre you like and hit IMSLP.org for free public domain scans. I can spend the rest of my life doing that and won’t get bored 😀
  21. Ha! How is that working? I never thought lifetime licenses were possible for the Roland plugins. I’d buy this one (and a D50, JD800) if it’s indeed available.
  22. All these XV/JV modules and similar synths can be recreated in perfect (and tiny sized) iOS apps. I’m wondering why Roland are absent from the mobile world. I know they are about their Roland Cloud subscription but it can also be done on iOS if desired.
  23. Yeah, we’ve discussed it in another thread once. The huge memory limitations unlocked some great creativity in the sound designers.
