  1. Caev, I've had it out on a couple of jams, and I'm very pleased with the tone. The action seems a bit stiff, and I suspect they didn't get the nut cut right at the factory. Other than that, no complaints!
  2. I'm doing some work on a cheapo telecaster. It has a neck'bucker and will have a tele-sized 'bucker in the bridge. Currently, the tone control is kinda weak, it that it doesn't change much through the sweep. I'm wondering what cap and pot values would fix that. I realize that 'buckers work best with 500K pots, but what cap should I put in the circuit?
  3. Some good advice, thanks guys(and Surfer Girl). I'm particularly interested in any input I can get on employing compression for slap back.
  4. I recently picked up a Gretsch Electromatic G5122. IT's in the shop getting the pickups switched up with some TV Jones Brian Setzer signature p/ups. I can't wait to get it back and twang away! I spoke with a friend of mine who also has a Gretsch, and he uses a Digitech RP 500 which has a "Stray Cats" patch on it that he says is exquisite. It got me to thinking about how I should set my amp and effects. I've tried setting up a slapback sound in the past, and I don't recall being very pleased with my results. So, I wondered if any of you guys have a slapback/rockabilly set up for your rig you like. How many repeats do you use on the echo? Do you use anything besides short echo, like compression and/or reverb? AN Enquiring mind wants to know...🎸
  5. I bought a TV yellow Epiphone Les Paul Special, and I'd like top get a matching strap. Who makes one?
  6. I recently got a double neck lap steel guitar. It didn't have a switch to go between the necks, they were both on all the time. Being a basic malcontent, I couldn't just leave it alone. I bought a switch and proceeded to cobble it up to the best of myt ability, which is not exensive. To put a little FYI in here, it is a three position switch, on-on-on, with six lugs. I wired the outout lead to the center lug on one side, and the two pickup leads to the outside lugs, all on one side. The three lugs on the other side are not hooked up to anything. Now, in the forward position I get one neck, but in the middle position I only get one neck, and in the back position, I get the other neck. I really wanted to get both necks in the center position. My fading memory seems to recall a wiring diagram where the two center lugs were wired together and to the output, the pickup leads were wired to opposite sides and ends. IS that what I need to do to get what I'm looking for?
  7. Where can I get a template for drilling a strat body for a 2-point tremolo?
  8. The irristable band name aside, does anybody recognize the make and model of this guy's guitar? Holy Cow - White Boy & The Average Rat Band
  9. The televised king of rock &n roll signs off for the last time... Howard Hesseman, WKRP in Cincinnati Actor, Dead at 81 - Consequence
  10. DBM, have you considered one of the Line 6 Spider 15 watters? I know, it's (groan) Line 6, but for a practice amp, you can set it up as no-frills clean as you want or add effects and distortion in a reasonably good sounding way. And, they go cheap for used. On Ebay, the lowest price I saw was around $50. If you get the Spider IV, it even had a port for one of the foot controllers. You'd probably get a lower price on the Spider III, with no such port, but shucks, what fun is that?
  11. Firstly, yes I am aware that the Roalnd is obsolete technology. No, it doesn't have phantom power, or any sort of USB port. It's a long story, but the guy who gave it to me believed he was doing me a favor, and I'm not interested in disabusing him of the notion. He's a nice guy, a talented musician and songwriter, and I love him dearly. As for the four questions, my budget is such that I won't be purchasing a Neumann U87, or even an MXL990. I already have an MXL 990, by the way. I was considering the possibility of using the Roland for live remote recordings, and wanted to use two mikes on opposite sides of the room for stereo. Ideally, I'd want two of the same mics for that, but I'm habitual about going as low-priced as possible from years of being a broke-a$$ musician. When I started looking at mics, I saw all these large diaphragm USB webcasting jobbies going for like $40, and wondered. Yes, I am aware that very often, you get what you pay for, but I have also found that sometimes, you CAN get away quite well with bargain basement gear quite nicely. I've done it before. So, to continue my budget is whatever I can get for cheap. I'll be recording either in my apartment, at gig sites, or anyplace else nobody is watching too closely. There are volume restrictions in my apartment, elsewhere who knows? That being the case, the sonic qualities of the rooms involved might vary widely. As for my apartment, where most of the recordings will be made, it's a bedroom with a bed, desk, and boxes of stuff along the wall. So. somewhere between lively and dead, and most likely sonically kind of meh. What I need to record are demos of songs I write, and maybe some live bands, as a favor to friends if they want it. Yes, I do have some mics from live performances with my band; a couple of SM58s, and SM56(SM57 with a shock mount), and I think an SM57. I also have an EV PL5, and a few no name cheapies that had a few uses for live work. And, I just picked up a phantom power supply for $30, so I will be able to use the MXL990. Yes, the rigors of using a small screen with multiple functions to access from it are daunting. It's not the first time to the stand-alone 8 track digital recorder rodeo, and I never did master all the quirky possibilities of the Fostex I had. But like I said, not only was this one free, but I feel a sort of obligation to my friend to use it, however minimally I am able to.
  12. |A friend of mine has recently given me his Roland VS880EX multitrack recorder. So, I'm looking at microphones. I've noticed a lot of large diaphragm condenser mics with USB connectors. I have no idea of their sound quality, but the price on them is attractive. But, the VS880EX doesn't have USB mic inputs. Does anybody know if there is a way to adapt one of these mics USB port to XLR or 1/4"?
  13. Anybody have the Super Fuzz? Tell me about it!
  14. So, I dropped about $20 on a Behringer Super Fuzz. The stuff you guys recommended all sounded cool, but some of them were a bit pricier than I fancied. I know, I know, you get what you pay for, and Behringer is a rip-off artist, and they make cheap crap that falls apart, etc etc. Whatever. I just want to experiment a bit with a sound I haven't really used since the late 70's. I may decide I don't care for it. So cheapo is the way to go. Maybe if I like it, I'll look at the pricier stuff. Thank you all for sharing your experience and time.
  15. Can anybody tell me where I can get one of these?
  16. Good job, Mark. If it was me, I'd want the drums a bit less busy, and the cymbals on the chorus/refrain could lose a bit of the high end or get pulled down in the mix somewhat, but's all very subjective, matter of taste and all that. The song itself is very well written, I liked your guitar solo, and the instrumental performances are quite good. The video is really good, and after 10 years in video production, I know somewhat whereof I speak on video. Again, good job, Mark.
  17. I've always been more of an overdrive guy than a fuzz dude, y'know? Even back in the day, when fuzz pedals were all there were, I always tried to get a less distorted tone out of the ones I had. But recently, I've heard some pleasing tonalities on the other end of the spectrum, kind of a ripping, tearing sort of sound that for lack of a better description, craps out as it dies. I think I want to buy a fuzz pedal, but I want the most distorted, sour-sounding, rip-roaring, ear-offending, rawest, disgusting fuzz out there. I don't want it to be capable of producing even a hint of sweetness. No stinky ant bugle fizz either. What do our experts in sonic mayhem & destruction recommend?
  18. Caev, I like the look of these, but ordering them looks kinda complicated.
  19. It's just a personal preference, but I'd get a matt black pickguard and lose the blue pearloid.
  20. For those who use fingerpicks, how far do you let them stick out from your finger tip? And at what angle?
  21. the first one, Caev.
  22. Can anybody tell me where I can get a drilling template for a Wilkinson 52.5mm(2-1/16 inch) Full Block ST Guitar Tremolo Bridge? I need to drill holes for a two-point trem, and I can't find a template online.
  23. 'ZAN BABY!!! So glad to see your prose again. Yes, I'm still here, annoying as many as possible. I'm not playing out these days, partly because of the quarantine, partly because of burn out, partially because of TV addiction. Oh well, I'm not unhappy. And I still pick up the old axe at the odd time and jam away. Doing any gigging?
  24. What is the KCFFL? I tried Googling it, and came up with the Kansas City Fantasy Football League! :D
