  1. There is a new library available - Synth-M12 Hammond SK Libraries Here is the ReadMe: Hammond SK Voice Library VL-SK018 "Synth M12" This voice library provides classic sounds from the famous "M12" synthesizer. This classic instrument from the Eighties used analog sound generators, the sounds from which were then shaped and manipulated by various means. This instrument was unique in that it used digital circuitry to implement voltage control over all the sound-producing components (VCO, VCF and VCA). Groups such as Depeche Mode and Vangelis took advantage of this instrument's unique ability to generate big majestic brass sounds which are represented in this library. This library requires Software Release 3 (MAIN 1.112) or later. Box Brass: This is the famous "Synth Brass" sound renowned among rock and pop keyboardists. Brazz: This instrument utilized a feature called "matrix modulation" to maximize the ability to apply modulation to a sound. This sound is a "Synth Brass" with pitch and filter envelopes applied simulating this feature. Horn Ensemble: This is a mellow Synth Brass sound created by four oscillators sounding in unison. Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd. It is a large (in MB) library but the sounds are pretty nice (IMO).
  2. The older versions are available here: SK OS Update Releases
  3. My guess is that the issue may be more with a venue's power. Low voltage and bad grounds would stress the power supply as it works to produce the correct output voltage. There were some reports early on about SK's being in hot vehicles before setup or in direct sunlight after setup getting too hot and having issues (IIRC, mostly with the display). They weren't power supply related though.
  4. Also, Whole setups which contain the currently installed libraries are easy to save and organize. Since patches that use the installed libraries and those libraries are saved together you don't have to worry about calling up a saved patch to find out that the library it uses was removed. By saving Whole setups that contain only the libraries needed for the patches in it the setup files can be kept fairly small so they load quickly.
  5. The Expression settings (Pg. 79 #'s 6 - 10) will help dial in the pedal and how you want it to affect the expression. Particularly the curve (#10). It will also affect how the overdrive changes if you have it set to be changed along with expression (pg. 92 #2).
  6. Wouldn't setting it to Auto so the organ notes trigger at the shallow point make fast trills easier? A half moon switch with a momentary toggle would work the same way a foot switch does. Tapping the switch post with the side of the hand would toggle between fast and slow, holding it with the side of the hand for a second would stop the Leslie.
  7. The organ manuals should only cover the 61 notes since that is all a Hammond keyboard has. You can split the 73 into upper and lower manual portions. (Pg.112 #3 and Pg. 33)
  8. If you have his file loaded, go to the Custom Tonewheel menu page (Pg. B, Manual Pg. 87 #2). There should be a left arrow to the left of the Tonewheel Type. Make sure the tonewheel set you want to save is displayed and arrow over to the Load/Save/Delete menu and save that set. You can also change the name etc. from that menu. After you save the set(s) you want, load your setup file, go to that menu page, select the tonewheel set you want to replace with the saved set, left arrow over to the L/S/D menu and load the set you want to use. This is from memory, if I missed anything, let me know and I'll check mine and figure it out.
  9. I had an EV5 go bad, it had a dead short when the pedal was moved to minimum volume. It took out a resistor and transistor on my old Yamaha SK-20.
  10. No, you can remove all the old files and just have the new update files. Just to rule this out, are you holding down the correct three buttons? In the past, a few people have held down the three drawbar select buttons instead of the Control, Song and Play/Pause buttons. If you just power the SK-1 on with the USB drive connected does it boot up properly? Do you have another small USB drive to try?
  11. Try installing Release 6 first and then Release 8. If Release 6 doesn't install try Release 5. I think the software in yours is old enough that it doesn't have the sload/bootload files installed. There was a change in how the OS updates itself with Rel. 5. If release 6 installs you hopefully will be good to go directly to release 8. If you have to install Release 5 you may have to delete the sload file from the USB drive after the install. The initial version had to be manually deleted but that was fixed in Release 6 (IIRC). If you install Release 5 you should then be able to go right to Release 8. You can download the older updates from here: H/S Update download site What brand and size USB drive do you have? It is possible it worked for saving the files but isn't fully compatible with doing an update. And it is possible that after installing either Rel. 5 or 6 you may have some compatibility issues.
  12. I made a "half moon" switch to control my 3300 and 21System from my old M3. I used a spring loaded toggle switch so that all I have to do is hit it with the side of my hand. A quick tap toggles fast/slow and holding it for a second stops them.
  13. All of the previous OS Releases are available here: http://tinyurl.com/Hammond-JpnDnld
  14. From the update Release readme file (Rel. 6 section): HAMMOND SK1/2 Updator Release 6 Nov 19, 2012 Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd Updated Files: - mainV1400.sys - subV1021.sys - sloadV1005.sys - presetV1106.sys - bootV1005.sys Updated Areas: - The Voice Group in the [A.PIANO] and [LIBRARY] categories may be toggled by multiple presses of the Group Button. - Leslie Fast switch can now be controlled via MIDI by receiving cc#92 - A new control parameter "SOUNDING POINT" has been added to the CONTROL menu page. You can set the shallow key depth when the [ALLOCATE] is OFF (Organ section only). - Two new modes have been added to the "MIDI IN" menu: "UPPER" and "UPP+PED" These modes allow the use of the Sk-1 keyboard as the LOWER part and an external MIDI keyboard as the UPPER or UPPER+PEDAL part. If you have the newer version of the Owners Manual it is on Pg. 78 #25
  15. There are updates to the SK and XK-1c OS's here: H/S Jpn Dnld It looks like mostly small bug fixes and an improvement to USB compatibility in the XK-1c. Here are the readme's: SK: HAMMOND SK1/2 Updator Release 8.4 Jul 02, 2014 Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd Updated Files: - mainV1621.sys Updated Areas: - In Tonewheel organ, improved the problem of errors in writing to sound engine by the value of the attack / release parameters. - When Default-Global has run,it improved the problem of errors in writing to Percussion internal parameters. XK-1c: HAMMOND XK-1C Updator Release 1.1 Jul 02, 2014 Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd Updated Files: - mainV1012.sys - DSPV1002.sys Updated Areas: - Added USB compatibility. - In Tonewheel organ, improved the problem of errors in writing to sound engine by the value of the attack / release parameters. - In Default-Global run-time,improved the problem of errors in writing to Percussion internal parameters. - InDefault-All run-time,improved the problem of errors in writing to Pipe organ parameters. - In Flanger and Chorus, improved the problem of errors in writing to HPF parameters.
  16. The XM-2 used the same main board as the XK-1 but the area containing the EV circuitry was left empty. So if there was going to be a single unit module it would have been the width and depth of the XM-2 and at least that tall. I doubt there would have been an XM-2 if it required manufacturing a whole new main board. There just isn't (or at least hasn't been) enough demand for a module to justify a complete re-design and manufacture of the electronics (IMO).
  17. I have found some 8 and 16 Gb PNY drives and a Kingston 8 Gb drive that work (and one PNY 16Gb drive that doesn't). I think the only need for a high Gb drive would be to hold a large number of MP3/WAV files. All the libraries and a bunch of Whole setup files would still only be 1 - 2 Gb.
  18. The actual drive may be pretty small inside a plastic case. You might be able to remove the drive. I have a number of PNY drives that I took out of their rubber or plastic decorative cases.
  19. There is no way to adapt an EXP-100 to work on an SK. It probably would be easy enough to buy a metal bracket and doorbell switch at a hardware store and mount a kick switch on the side of the EXP-50 or any other pedal for that matter.
  20. There is a velocity offset adjustment (pg. 80 #24) that can be adjusted to make it easier or harder to hit a high velocity value. That adjustment adds or subtracts the selected value to/from the generated velocity. You can make the voices pop without having to play "Whack-A-Mole" with the keys or not.
  21. There will be a live webcast of a clinic for the SKs being held at Long and McQuade in Toronto Tues May 6 @ 7Pm: Hammond Webcast Long and McQuade webpage
  22. For anyone looking for a USB drive for their SK or XK-1c, I've been told that these Verbatim drives work: Verbatim 4Gb USB drives
  23. Why do you have to turn the treble up? Does the rest of the organ sound dull otherwise through your Leslie/amps or whatever you play through?
  24. At first I thought you meant the key click but when I turned my computer speaker volume up and put my ear next to the speaker I could hear the hiss. With headphones on and the SK-1's volume at max I could hear the hiss noticeably with the mid range eq. at the highest setting and the volume at max along with the treble at max. (This was the master EQ on the control panel.) With it set where I usually have it, Volume at 10:00 and all eq (Control Panel and Patch parameters) at the 0 point I couldn't hear it. When holding a note past the decay/sustain fade out the hiss would suddenly stop so maybe it is produced in the DSP that generates the sustain and decay. In my normal use it isn't something I would hear. IMO, YMMV, Yada Yada Yada.
  25. What do you have the Attack set to? (Pg.75 #14)
