  1. There isn't a way to store separate presets for the organ and extra voices. The closest you might be able to get is to use the Patch Load parameters (Pg. 76) These are Global parameters so they would affect all patches. They are used to select which parts of patches are loaded when a new patch is selected. You could have it not load the lower manual drawbar settings so that they are always as you last left them for example. I found that what I prefer is to have everything but the EV's turned off so that the only thing that changes when I select one of the patches is the EV and its effects. The organ is always live.
  2. Check the monitor (Pg. 78(SK) 72(XK-1c) #5). It should reach 127 just as or as close as possible to the point where the pedal reaches the end of its travel. If you are getting to 127 with an inch or so left nothing happens in that last inch.
  3. Check the upper limit for the lower to pedal coupler (Pg. 112 #3). Try setting it higher to see if that gets the notes to play. Is it possible the 2 SK-2s think they are SK-1s? During OS update attempts some have accidentally held the wrong buttons and caused their instrument to think it is the other model. I think this has mostly been SK-1 to SK-2 switches. When you power on watch the display to see what it says. Pressing the Upper and Pedal buttons and powering on tells it it is an SK-1, the Pedal and Lower buttons an SK-2.
  4. The nut and bolt the pedal pivots on. If loosening it up makes the pedal not stay put find thin nylon washers and put 2 on each side. The washers will slide on each other put the nut and bolt can be tightened to the point the pedal won't move when you take your foot off it.
  5. Check the pedal drawbar menu. The pedals can be set to either stay on as long as they are held or to fade out quickly or over time depending on the settings. Edit: Pgs. 74 & 75 #'s 13 - 18
  6. From the Hammond Brochure: http://hammondorganco.com/support/downloads/brochures-product-catalogs/ Sk1-88 The thought of a Hammond instrument with 88 keys is jarring at first, but with a set of Acoustic and Electric Pianos like those contained in the Sk Series, it makes perfect sense that Piano players are going to want to get in the Sk Fun. The Sk1-88 has a semi-weighted action, and its variable touch lets Pianists feel right at home. When the Drawbars come into play, the HammondStyle Waterfall Keys translate the Hammond Vibe perfectly and accurately. Splitting the big keyboard gives you two 44 note keyboards side by side, which effectively transforms the Sk1-88 into a double manual organ, if you desire; or a wider berth for manual bass. Great for MIDI control as well.
  7. I don't have the manual handy but I think it is in the drawbar menu. IIRC page A Drawbar and scroll up to pedals and then across.
  8. Make sure it is set to see the foot switch as a foot switch and not a half moon switch (CU-1) Pg. 79 #1.
  9. Also tweak the Velocity Offset parameter (Pg. 80 #24) in conjunction with the Velocity Curves (Pg. 77 #7). It can be pretty difficult to generate a high velocity value on the SK keybeds and without that the attack harmonics and overall tone can sound a little dull. The Offset Velocity adds (or subtracts) a set value to/from the generated value.
  10. Thanks. I'm trying to figure out if there is a version available that is up to date through OS release 8.4. The copy I downloaded from Hammond US seems to be from when the SK-88 was launched. The copy on the Hammond EU site has the tonewheel file info so it is more recent than that.
  11. What serial # is yours? The initial SK-1 and 2 had built in tonewheel sets but they were not adjustable so the manual didn't have any adjustment information. The adjustable tonewheel feature was added later and the current downloadable manual (and I think the printed version included with all SKs now) has a couple of pages on how to adjust them. I didn't see anything about loading and saving sets in the copy I downloaded, what page is it on in yours? Most of the features that have been added in updates have a PDF in the update package or at least some information in the readme. The most recent update has all the older readmes in the readme file but you will have to download all the older updates to get the PDFs. Note: I found a newer version (1.60) that has info on the tonewheel set files on the Hammond EU website: http://www.hammond.eu/support/
  12. Whl is a whole setup file. It includes all the user installed libraries along with menu parameters. Set files are setup files with just the parameters. Twl(IIRC) are tonewheel sets that can be loaded into the currently active setup. The setup would then have to be saved (set or whl) to keep those tonewheels in the setup to be loaded again in the future.
  13. Try to find an older small (1 - 2Gb) drive. There are posts in this topic and other topics on USB drive compatibility. Usually the issue is with the drive not working in the SK. Is the USB port in your laptop a USB 3 type?
  14. Yours has version 8.3 (Main 1.619) installed. There is a slightly newer version - 8.4 (Main 1.621). You probably don't need to do the update but might as well for practice. If you will be saving setups, loading libraries etc. you will need a USB drive anyway so you might as well get one, make sure it is compatible and install the update all at once. Here is the readme for the version 8 updates: HAMMOND SK1/2 Updator Release 8.4 Jul 02, 2014 Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Mfg. Co., Ltd Updated Files: - mainV1613.sys - subV1024.sys - sloadV1008.sys - DSPV1008.sys - presetV1206.sys - presetV1207.sys - LibAPianoPreLoad1400.sys - LibEPianoPreLoad1200.sys Updated Areas: - A new parameter has been added to the Vibrato/Chorus menu entitled "MIX". This control allows the balance of Chorus/Vibrato and direct (or unaffected) sound. As Vintage mechanical Hammonds have aged, their "scanner's" effect has weakened. This has created a very distinctive characteristic much desired by Vintage Hammond aficionados. At the same time. In some Vintage Hammonds, the aging of the "scanner" has produced the exact opposite, a highly effected sound-also desired. Our Normal setting (which is what the factory tolerance was on the Original B-3) is 11V. As you rotate the value control COUNTER-CLOCKWISE (the "V" value diminishes, through "EVEN" and after that, "D" value Rises) the CHORUS sound will diminish. We recommend [D10] as a good starting point in recreating a Vintage Mechanical Hammond. As you rotate the value control CLOCKWISE, the Vibrato element deepens. - A new parameter "VOLUME" has been added in the Drawbar - Foldback page. It controls the entire volume of the organ section at each patch. This allows better balance with the Extra Voice section. - A new sounding mode "LAST" has been added in the Drawbar - Pedal - Mode page. It sounds last note when 2 or more keys are pressed. - New functions "PROCHORD Open / Close" has been added in the Foot Switch "Tip". Prochord is now available for the Organ section. There are two voicings "Open Harmony" and "Closed Harmony". When the foot switch is depressed, the Prochord effect takes is applied. - Added the new instrument "Stereo GP Pad3" in the [A.PIANO]. This is "Piano and Synth Strings". - Added the new instrument "E.Piano FM Belly" in the [E.PIANO]. This is an "FM" Electronic Piano with pronounced "Bell" voicing. - The message "Completed" is displayed when the Voice library or Whole file has loaded. - The volume control of the music player has made smoother. - Added the function that load and save a Custom Tonewheel individually. - You may now save and load the Custom Tonewheel settings you create, or load Custom Tonewheel settings from others. There will also soon be Custom Tonewheel settings from Hammond Artists available from our website. - Improved USB compatibility.
  15. When I change the upper foldback point on my SK2 I hear no difference in where on the keyboard the1' drawbar drops out. Does this change have to be recorded to a preset in order to hear it? The manual also claims that you can set the foldback points of a couple of the other high drawbars but I'll be darned if I've been able to find out how. Can someone enlighten me? You can't really turn foldback off you can just change the note at which it starts. Turning it off would produce silence at the point where frequencies run out - similar to the spinets like the M3. If you set it at 4G and pull out just the 1' drawbar you will hear the 2nd G from the right end of the keyboard play the same frequency as the 3rd G from the right. The first G from the right will also play that same frequency. Each note in the octave from the 3rd G from the right to the 2nd F# from the right will repeat the frequencies from the octave below that. And again in the next octave higher. The note in the foldback section indicates the foldback is possible for the other drawbars. This is a little misleading in that it seems to imply it can also be turned off. It can't. If you push the 1' drawbar in and pull the 2' drawbar out the foldback frequencies are still the same just bumped up an octave on the keyboard. The black drawbars are also folded back corresponding to the frequencies they produce. Maybe being able to set foldback at 5C will sound better to some in that the frequency is jumping down an octave at the start of the octave and not in the middle. However with it set there those last few notes before the foldback are hard to hear. Foldback is a patch parameter so if you want it different from the default you will have to change/save it in each patch.
  16. After formatting a USB drive in your SK there should be a folder named "twheel". Make sure your SK has the latest OS update (Rel 8) installed. If it doesn't, install it. Copy the unzipped tonewheel set file(s) to that directory. After inserting the USB drive in your SK, power it on. Scroll up in the menus to the Custom TW menu page (Pg. 87 #2). There should be a left arrow in the display (not shown in manual because tonewheel set saving/loading was added after the manual. Have the set that you want to replace selected and then arrow to the left. (So you remember which one later.) You should be able to scroll up and down to the set you want to load if there are more than 1 files in the directory. Scroll to the one you want to load and select it/press enter. This will take you to a screen where you can scroll through the tonewheel set locations to select the one you want to replace. Select the one you had active earlier and load the replacement set to that location. Good Luck.
  17. New String Libraries: http://hammondorganco.com/support/downloads/voice-libraries/ Hammond SK Voice Library VL-SK019 "Symphonic Strings" This voice library provides the sounds of a larger string ensemble such as a studio orchestra. This library requires Software Release 3 (MAIN 1.112) or later. Arco Strings: A string ensemble consisting of 16 violins, 9 violas, 12 Celli, played bowed ("arco"). Arco Strings Dual: Similar to Arco Strings, but with digitally enhanced Stereo effect. Arco Strings Oct: Similar to Arco Strings, but played in octaves (upper octave added). Arco Strings oPcd: Same basic voice as "Arco Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, open harmony which sounds according to the Lower Manual keys pressed. Arco Strings cPcd: Same basic voice as "Arco Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, 4-part closed harmony with the melody doubled 2 octaves below. The melody or "lead voice" will be slightly louder than the harmony or "fill voices." Classic Strings: A string ensemble consisting of 16 violins, 6 violas, 9 Celli, played bowed and with a slow attack and release. Classic Strings Dual: Similar to Classic Strings, but with digitally enhanced Stereo effect. Classic Strings Oct: Similar to Classic Strings, but played in octaves (upper octave added). Classic Strings Big: Similar to Classic Strings Oct, but with a lower octve added so that three octaves are playing simultaneously. Classic Strings oPcd: Same basic voice as "Classic Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, open harmony which sounds according to the Lower Manual keys pressed. Classic Strings cPcd: Same basic voice as "Classic Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, 4-part closed harmony with the melody doubled 2 octaves below. The melody or "lead voice" will be slightly louder than the harmony or "fill voices." Classic / Arco Vsw: This instrument is controlled by key velocity. A light touch will play the "Classic Strings," while a heavy touch will play the "Arco Strings." Strings Pad: A mellow string ensemble with no velocity. This instrument is designed to be used when long background chords are desired. ----------------------------------------------------------- SOUNDS FEATURING "PROCHORD" FUNCTION Extra Voice instruments that contain "Pcd" in their description feature Hammond's exclusive ProChord function. When notes or chords are played on a Lower Manual and a note is played on an Upper Manual, the note represented by the key played on the Upper Manual is heard along with a scored harmony pattern which sounds according to the Chord Root and Chord Type selected by the notes played on the Lower Manual. Sk1, Sk1-73, Sk1-88: The SPLIT feature must be enabled (SPLIT Touch Tab is ON) and a note or chord played to the left of the Split point in order for the harmony to sound when notes are played to the right of the Split point. Sk2: A note or chord must be played on the Lower Manual in order for the ProChord harmony to sound when notes are played on the Upper Manual. On both the Sk1 and Sk2, the harmony will sound ONLY if Lower Manual notes are pressed and held while the melody is played. If no Lower Manual notes are held, only the Melody note will sound. Also, when a ProChord Extra Voice is selected, the Upper Manual becomes monophonic - if a chord is played with the right hand, only one key will play. Therefore, when using Prochord play a single-note melody. ----------------------------------------------------------- Hammond SK Voice Library VL-SK020 "Symphonic Strings 2" This voice library provides the sounds of a medium-size string ensemble. This library requires Software Release 3 (MAIN 1.112) or later. Marcato Strings: A string ensemble consisting of 10 violins, 6 violas, 9 celli. Marcato Strings Dual: Similar to Marcato Strings, but with digitally enhanced Stereo effect. Marcato Strings oPcd: Same basic voice as "Marcato Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, open harmony which sounds according to the Lower Manual keys pressed. Marcato Strings cPcd: Same basic voice as "Marcato Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, 4-part closed harmony with the melody doubled 2 octaves below. The melody or "lead voice" will be slightly louder than the harmony or "fill voices." Pizzicato Strings: A string ensemble consisting of 10 violins, 6 violas, 9 celli, played "pizzicato" or plucked. Pizzicato Strings Oct: Similar to Pizzicato Strings, but played in octaves (upper octave added). Pizzicato Strings oPcd: Same basic voice as "Pizzicato Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, open harmony which sounds according to the Lower Manual keys pressed. Pizzicato Strings cPcd: Same basic voice as "Pizzicato Strings" but with ProChord ("Pcd") added. The ProChord harmony pattern is, 4-part closed harmony with the melody doubled 2 octaves below. The melody or "lead voice" will be slightly louder than the harmony or "fill voices." ----------------------------------------------------------- SOUNDS FEATURING "PROCHORD" FUNCTION Extra Voice instruments that contain "Pcd" in their description feature Hammond's exclusive ProChord function. 18. Tonewheel set files are just the tonewheel setting data not the rest of the setup data. If you want to use the Leslie settings in a different file you would need to load that file into your SK and then load the tonewheel settings into that setup and save the setup. Make sure the patches you will be using have the new tonewheel set selected and then save the patches before saving the setup.
  19. Hi Pa Gherkin, try this: -Push the'M.BASS' button on the front panel -Go to: MENU->DRAWBAR->right arrow button to LOWER ZONE. Set LO 3C -- HI 6C This is why even those who think they know what they are doing should refer to the manual. This setting is in the Zones menu on the XK-3c. When I looked there on my SK-1 and didn't see it I assumed it had been dropped in the SKs. A look through the manual would have corrected me.
  20. I think the only way to do that is to fool the SK-2 into thinking the lower manual is an external controller sending separate pedal and lower manual signals. You should be able to set up two external zones sending the separate ranges on different channels and have the SK-2 respond to them instead of the internally connected LM. A MIDI cable from the out to the in should be all it takes. You probably have to change the internal LM and pedal channels to something other than 2 and 3 and have the EZ's send on those channels. The Master - MIDI In (Pg. 114 #2) may help too. You wouldn't have to use manual bass since the SK-2 would see the lower octaves as pedals.
  21. Yes. You could tell the SK-1 that the attached controller is the lower manual of the organ and then have the lower manual play the Extra Voice piano. You can also set the SK-1 up so that whatever it receives plays the EV (channel info is irrelevant). There are a number of ways the SK-1 can be configured to use an external controller: Lower, lower + pedal, pedal, EXVoice, upper, upper + pedal and Sequence.
  22. Since the SK-1 has an 8 pin Leslie connector you might use one of the Hammond adapters. That would allow you to use the SK's buttons and/or a footswitch to control the Leslie. http://hammondorganco.com/products/accessories-a-parts/accessories/adapters/
  23. The Studio 12 was reviewed in the magazine. It may be a good choice for home use. However, you can't go wrong with a 3300. The benefit of the 2101 MkII is that you can send the EVs to it as well and with a 2121 or other amp (or 2 for stereo EVs and more motion from the LR) below it to carry the low rotor and EVs it can be pretty powerful as well.
  24. You may have accidentally told it it is an SK-2. Pressing and holding the Pedal and Lower buttons and powering on tells it it is an SK-2, Upper and Pedal tells it it is an SK-1.
