  1. Heh... I've been having some fun with my new copy of Soundtrack. Check it out... it's the piece called "Don't Say Nothin'". It's my first crack at a dance-type tune, so I'd love to get some feedback. I was gonna submit it for the Vol. 7 comp, but the more I think about it, I didn't really play the tune - I just assembled it, so I'm not really comfortable using it. I'm pretty sure that it's headed for the record I'm working on, though... dB
  2. Whaddaya mean? I've been out of town - see this thread for details - so back off, Vlad... Greetings and a warm welcome (overdue in some cases) to Phil, Aaron, Phait, Mu, Jimmy, Joanna, Steve, Jay and Tom. We're delighted to have y'all here! dB
  3. Welcome to Ano, John and Dwight! Thanks for taking the time to tell us about yourselves. Dwight, that's some story...wow... dB
  4. Jorn and Austin - Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourselves! This really is kind of a cool thread. You can find a little bio on so many of the people who post here...I always appreciate it when people continue the tradition. dB
  5. Misnomer, dementia, geekgurl and Dr, Hooper - Thanks for taking the time to post! Welcome aboard! dB
  6. Way cool! Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to "step up to the mic" and say hi...we're glad to have you here! dB
  7. Excellent! Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourselves, gentlemen! Welcome aboard! dB
  8. I was thinking the same thing, only I hadn't gotten to it yet...thank, Eric! dB
  9. That's from "I Robot", which I believe is waaaay pre-DX, isn't it? dB
  10. Well, I don't know about the album; but when I was working for Miles Davis during the '80s we did a gig with the Elektrik band, and Chick's rig had a DX7II FD on top of a MIDI'd Rhodes. The two keyboards were both connected to a rack that had two TX816 racks, so that's basically 18 DX7s that he was packing at the time. IIRC, Steve Winwood's "Arc of a Diver" had DX7 all over it... dB
  11. I just got a note from Keyboard magazine editor Ken Hughes. They were quite pleased with the feedback they got from us on the most memorable MiniMoog recordings question, and he asked me to please post this for y'all: We wanna know what the forum thinks are the most memorable recordings featuring the Yamaha DX7. Could be the most cliched, the coolest, the most iconic, whatever. Unforgettable DX7 recordings. We'll boil down the forum's responses with our own and include them in an upcoming feature on the 20th anniversary of the DX7. Opinions shared between now and Friday will be eligible for inclusion in the article. Can we help Mr. Hughes out? dB
  12. We've had a bunch of new posters here lately, and so (with gentle prodding from Rabid) I thought it might be a good idea to bring this thread to the top so anyone who feels inclined to do so can introduce themselves. dB
  13. I love this thread. Every time it gets bumped, I'm really glad it got started. Thanks to everyone who has put up recent intros - it's always interesting to get a glimpse into the worlds of the folks who post here. Thanks also to my friend Soapbox for curating this particular thread. Geoff has kind of evolved into the forum's official "greeter", and he does a darn fine job of it. dB
  14. The keys don't break away - it's a pretty rugged FATAR keybed. The OS is actually really easy - the effects are a bit kludgy to work with on the small display, but everything else is very straightforward. Some of the sounds are pretty great, and some of them are not. It is an excellent controller, as you can make a Mix (Combi) with 16 different zones/channels. The flash loading thing is pretty cool - 16 meg of samples loaded in the second you plug the cards into the slots, and any .WAV file, .AIFF file or SampleCell format multi-instrument imports effortlessly. However, finding the specific flash cards that you need to do it may be a bit of a bitch. My main controller is a QS8. I still use two QSRs as well. They're fine instruments. dB
  15. Hey, man...know anyplace where I can get a CD of your stuff? dB
  16. I love those two tunes. Ballad of Jenny Ledge is pretty great as well. You should check out the DTS 5.1 remix. It's terrifying... dB
  17. You know, Dan - you've really gotta work on sharpening up that wit... Nice one! dB
  18. Yeah, I think one or two of the other forum members have heard of Genesis... dB
  19. Yeah, it was Nick. I have a tape of the Giraffe performance of the Lamb. They did an awesome job... Hey Vlad, how do you know what my voice sounds like? I'm a professional voice artist - my voice can sound like lots of different things... dB
  20. I'd be glad to do so! I love to talk about my babies... Contact me offline at davebryce9@aol.com dB
  21. Your buddy Mike Krewitski from Pro Sound is helping me reassemble my studio now into a more integrated setup. He was actually up here today to help with the final planning. When the revised studio is complete I'll post a pic or two if you like. Please do! Mike has a couple of nice synths himself... Sorry, I had the Mackies before I knew about the ADAMs, but I'll definitely check them out the next time I buy monitors. No need to apologize to me, brother R... With a collection like that you should consider getting a great pair of speakers. Consider trying something like the Genelecs, Meyers, Westlakes, KRKs, M&Ks or (dare I say) the ADAMs. You won't believe how much pleasure it'll add to every note you hear. As a musician (not just as a guy who sells speakers), I believe that monitors are THE most important component in your studio. The Mackies are okay 'n all, but every sound you make or listen to passes through your monitors. You have an awesome synth collection - shouldn't your monitors be equally as awesome? I'm honestly not trying to sell you speakers. A) As most folks here know, I have a pretty strict policy restricting selling on the forum, and B) I'm pretty deep in backorder territory for most models. It's just that I firmly believe that having top-notch monitors makes all the difference in the world - I know that it has for me - and I can't help but want to pass that along to people. Okay, I'm getting off the soapbox now (thanks for letting me stand on you, Geoff!) dB
  22. Dang, Roland! That is one serious gear list! One of the more impressive synth collections that I've seen, fer sure! No ADAM monitors, though... dB
  23. Wow! This has been a busy thread while I've been gone! First of all, thanks to Dan South and Geoff (soapbox) Grace for making everyone feel welcome! 'Preciate dat, boys... Next, I'm really happy to see TinderArts and NYC Drew slumming down here with the keyboard folks - great to have you guys on board! Last, but not least, I'd like to add my welcome to sudeep, Dick Metcalf, jmanzella, Casey, and Kim (the boys missed another female in their list - Vi An - she's a newbie as well). I look forward to having y'all post regularly. Watch out for steadyb, though - he's strange... dB
  24. I love this thread - I'm always pleased to see it pop to the top. I find that it really adds another dimension when people tell us about themselves... Thanks, and welcome to Ronald, Mike and Phil - 'preciate you guys taking the time to check in. We're glad to have you here! So - any more newcomers? Or maybe just some lurkers who have been looking for the perfect opportunity to post? dB
