picker
So, I dropped about $20 on a Behringer Super Fuzz. The stuff you guys recommended all sounded cool, but some of them were a bit pricier than I fancied. I know, I know, you get what you pay for, and Behringer is a rip-off artist, and they make cheap crap that falls apart, etc etc. Whatever. I just want to experiment a bit with a sound I haven't really used since the late 70's. I may decide I don't care for it. So cheapo is the way to go. Maybe if I like it, I'll look at the pricier stuff. Thank you all for sharing your experience and time. Quote Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else. KuruPrionz
Have fun with it!!! You can probably stick poodles to the ceiling if you crank the treble. picker
Anybody have the Super Fuzz? Tell me about it! Quote Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Winston Psmith
@Picker - I think I recommended the Super Fuzz? I had the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz, and the Super Fuzz is Behringer's "clone". The Boost setting is just that, clean boost, the Fuzz 1 setting, IIRC, is essentially a Muff/Fuzz-style setting, but Fuzz 2!?!?! Think of Devo's original motto: The Sound Of Things Falling Apart. It's brutal, sputtering and dissonant, with a waveform that looks like something you'd see on a graph in an ER. There's almost a Ring Mod-like tone to it. I sold my FZ-2 because I had plenty of other Crapulators at the time, but for $25+/-, I've been tempted to order a Super Fuzz for myself. Let us know how you like it. KuruPrionz
Thinking on it, I used to own a Boss Metal Zone, that is a vicious sounding fuzz beast thingie with a cool EQ feature. I probably should have kept working with it and learned how to make beautiful hideous tones. Quote It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is. Caevan O’Shite
I think that's great! Congratulations, and enjoy! Now, I am unfamiliar with the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz, and the Behringer Super Fuzz; had I known what Winston explained above, I might have suggested either of them to suit your request for "the most distorted, sour-sounding, rip-roaring, ear-offending, rawest, disgusting fuzz out there. I don't want it to be capable of producing even a hint of sweetness." I might hafta try a Behringer Super Fuzz, myself! I don't expect that the plastic Behringer pedals have the same build quality as the Boss pedals they're meant to imitate, but by comparison, a used Hyper Fuzz will run you around $275+/-. wraub
I have been exploring cheap pedals lately, looking for something fun... I've been enjoying a Kmise Vintage Overdrive pedal recently, super cheap but surprisingly not terrible. Definitely worth a try for a different flavor. KuruPrionz
And, a way to make the distortion even worser... Use a cheap 8" speaker for that harsh squawk and shrill sibilant tone.
