What Do You Think About

When I'm playing lead, or recording a solo for a song, I always think about a girl I would like to get it on with. Don't ask me why, but this always seems to help me come up with new ideas.

 

What do you user for inspiration when playing.

Most of the time I'm just trying to figger out what the next note should be.

 

On the best occasions I'm not thinking about anything and I feel like I'm standing two feet in front of my body, watching myself play. (This has happened only a handful of times).

i am trying in desparation not to drool on the fretboard when i solo. and like Mudcat, what the next note should be.

i often wanted to record in complete darkness so i would listen harder.

Well I know that what I should be thinking about is absolutely nothing, or in a pinch something distractingly unrelated in order to get the pesky brain out of the way and let the music come through.

 

Never was this more obvious than when I watched the video of a concert performance where I had waited til an easier improv solo section came up to try and figure out a technical prob on the fly. I just kinda put the hands on autopilot while contemplating my patching. That was the only good playing I did all night.
